State data shows there are only 13 intensive care unit beds available in the 11-county Austin region. That means more than 98% of all ICU beds in the area are currently occupied...
On Thursday, more than 6,300 new confirmed cases were reported in the state. With the increased transmissibility of the delta variant, hospitals in the area say the surge in cases is “putting extraordinary pressure on [their] hospitals, emergency departments and healthcare professionals.”

Out of how many? 14?
Illegals.
Are they using ICU as a quarantine bay for every covid case?
That’s what they’re doing at one hospital in Alabama where an acquaintance just had a procedure for a stroke.
That would fill up an ICU ward pretty quick.
Devil is in the details.
LOL!
It’s becoming more evident that infected immigrants are being bused to areas in the South and SE which are now hotspots.
Create a proglem, then blame it on someone else.
Pin the tail on Biden.
2 questions:
How many are illegals?
How many are fully vaccinated?
Are there any locals here at Freep who can verify this.
Until actual eyes on verification is done, there is no reason to believe claims such as this.
I thought they were usually running at about 100% capacity, and when a bed is needed for a sicker patient, the patient who needs ICU care the least is moved to a less-intensive care unit.
How many are filled with illegal immigrants
As a retired nurse, I do know why there seems to be a shortage of beds. Hospitals have been short staffing for years, creating an unsustainable nurse :patient ratio. The result is early retirements, (especially among Boomer age nurses ) and nurses either quitting or getting their NP license to get away from bedside nursing. When I look at the hospital bed shortage, a lot of the blame can be placed on hospital administrators.
I now scoff at any Covid news coming from hospitals, the CDC and other “health experts.” They have all shown themselves to have political and financial motives to keep the fear going. So, is this Austin ICU getting extra federal bucks for every patient listed as “positive?”
And yet - Austin is a blue city with a supposedly high vaccination rate.
That certainly plays into it. But also a factor is that Austin has become the Scat Francisco of the Southwest. The lifestyles of many of the deviants who flock there make them far more prone to all kinds of infections requiring special medical care. I wonder how many of those hospital beds are occupied by AIDS patients, for example.
“Until actual eyes on verification is done, there is no reason to believe claims such as this.”
Exactly. Last year they lied their butts off about this sort of thing. Trump even sent hospital ships that never got used. Respirators were sent under emergency conditions and were thrown away. People such as myself took pictures of hospitals that the news claimed were overrun and full of covid patients only to find them empty.
I should also add, the local news was outside long term facilities on multiple occasions claiming the residents were all dying from covid, yet, those were my wife’s facilities and no one even had covid and no one was dying.
you should have but that all in caps...YOU are soooooo right...am married to a retired boomer nurse. She was and is a highly trained critial care nurse.
so 13 ICU beds available in AUSTIN area, then why put this stat in there:
” 6,300 new confirmed cases were reported in the state”
“Positive” test = Case and most with ZERO symptoms
Intentional obfuscation.
