Years of ultra-loose fiscal and monetary policies have put the global economy on track for a slow-motion train wreck in the coming years. When the crash comes, the stagflation of the 1970s will be combined with the spiraling debt crises of the post-2008 era, leaving major central banks in an impossible position. In April, I warned that today’s extremely loose monetary and fiscal policies, when combined with a number of negative supply shocks, could result in 1970s-style stagflation (high inflation alongside a recession). In fact, the risk today is even bigger than it was then. After all, debt ratios in advanced...

On the second anniversary of the crash of Boeing 737 MAX in Ethiopia, killing all 157 aboard, it was clear to those attending a memorial at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C. that the crash was preventable and those 157 would be with us today but for Boeing’s criminal actions and a beholden FAA management. That point was driven home last month by FAA safety engineer Joe Jacobsen. Jacobsen wrote a five page letter to the parents of Samya Stumo, who died that day two years ago in Ethiopia, and made clear that had he and...

A team of scientists is reportedly working to obtain the sharpest pictures ever taken of the Cascadia subduction zone – a fault line that runs for seven hundred miles off the coast of the Pacific Northwest. The subduction zone, which has been the site of some of North America's largest earthquakes and the Earth's past "megathrust" earthquakes, has been strangely quiet, with almost no seismic activity detected. To investigate Cascadia's Oregon and British Columbia portion and the reason for this lull, Columbia University led a team of researchers – including students – from the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics,...

So this weekend, the 70's station on Sirius is playing the Top 70 summer songs from each year of the 1970s (which is ten, in case you are counting). They are digging up some real gems. They are on 1970 right now and one of the songs was Westbound #9 by a band called The Flaming Ember. Now I remember that song very well from that year. I was just 7 years old and not even interested in girls yet. My main thing was reading the Happy Hollisters book series by Jerry West that I got from the library as...

Mary Robertson, an American businesswoman who lived in London in 1980, hired a young woman to be her nanny. She had no clue that her nanny would later be known as Princess Diana. Back in 2017, Inside Edition interviewed Mary Robertson about Lady Diana Spencer's time working for her and what she labeled as the late Princess' "happiest year of her life." At that point, the People's Princess made only $5 an hour taking care of Mary's toddler son, Patrick, and handling several other activities, including doing their laundry, picking up a bunch of toys and washing the dishes. One...

“NEA New Hampshire has always advocated for vaccinations to be available, but it really is being left up to the educator or the parents of the child to decide whether they want to get the vaccination or not,” chapter president Megan Tuttle said. It is one of many ideas that will be debated at the yearly NEA meeting, delegates from across the country are meeting virtually this week. The New Hampshire NEA represents 17,000 educators and staff in the state. They said they will continue to support Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on masking, social distancing and safe...
