White Square Capital says the shutdown is unrelated, but we're sure Reddit is playing a sad song on the world's most overvalued violin. One of the hedge funds targeted by notorious Reddit investment board r/WallStreetBets is bust, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday. The r/WallStreetBets subforum shot to fame earlier this year after its members rallied around so-called “meme stocks”—stocks facing what they considered predatory shorts by big investors—causing their prices to surge to unfathomable levels. The first and most famous target was GameStop, but other companies including AMC and Blackberry saw similar boosts. It didn’t take long for the...

(The Last Refuge) Simon Campbell, a resident of the Pennsbury School District in Bucks County Pennsylvania confronts the school board in an epic confrontation of their brutal censorship. Not only does Mr. Campbell bring the righteous indignation, he also brings the citations, documents and receipts; including the board’s own internal communication. Campbell later uploaded this speech to his YouTube channel with citations to all of the documents he reviewed. Mr. Campbell is well versed in the subject matter at hand, well prepared for the confrontation, and rather eloquent in his argument. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxKu6-05n7k

Around this date in the unspecified 18th-century year of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the titular family’s servant is put to death for the murder of their youngest child, William. In the novel, smarty-pants university student Victor Frankenstein has created (and immediately rejected) his famous monster. Not long after, he receives a letter (dated May 12, “17–“) from his father informing him of the murder of his youngest brother. About five in the morning I discovered my lovely boy, whom the night before I had seen blooming and active in health, stretched on the grass livid and motionless; the print of the...

A group of firefighting monks was ready to defend a Buddhist monastery being threatened Tuesday by a wildfire burning in the rugged central coast mountains south of Big Sur. The seven monks have been clearing brush from around the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center and running a sprinkler system dubbed “Dharma rain,” which helps keep a layer of moister around the buildings, said Sozan Miglioli, president of San Francisco Zen Center, which operates the monastery. “The blaze is about a mile away but we've been lucky with the weather, it has really cooled down,” Miglioli said. The fire was climbing uphill...

I really have the best...

A dead whale washed ashore at Asilomar State Beach in Pacific Grove on Tuesday. According to state beach officials, a deceased fin whale showed up on the beach at some point Tuesday morning. The carcass was stuck on the surf line on Tuesday. The whale, which measures around 30 feet long, is described as being decomposed. A team from Moss Landing Marine Labs was called to the area to inspect the whale and possibly take some samples. Beach officials said they had no plans to remove the whale's carcass as they'd prefer to let nature run its course.

BEIJING/TAIPEI—A U.S. warship has again sailed through the sensitive waterway that separates Taiwan from China, a week after the self-ruled island reported the largest incursion here to date of Chinese air force jets in Taiwan’s air defence zone. The U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet said the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur conducted a “routine Taiwan Strait transit” on Tuesday in accordance with international law.“The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.”The Chinese regime condemned the United States on Wednesday as the region’s greatest security “risk creator.” The People’s Liberation Army’s...

I know the term is getting overly used of late, but it doesn’t make it any less true: this is Orwellian. I have talked about the Westworld feel of this COVID vaccine drive. Despite all the smiles, prizes, and cheerleading, there is a malevolent strain ribboned through it. That malevolent strain quickly becomes a full-blown infection when anyone expresses ambivalence toward getting the vaccine or comes right out and says they will not receive it. There are millions of people who had COVID-19 and are fully recovered. These people have natural antibodies that are better protection against contracting COVID-19 a...

It’s over, and we are thankful. It was a 50-50 procedural vote along party lines, but H.R. 1/S.1, the supposed “For the People Act” has been blocked by Senate Republicans. Sixty votes were needed in order to open debate on this legislation before entering into a vote on the actual bill. Because the Republicans were able to successfully filibuster, that 60 vote threshold was not met. The legislation is now dead on the Senate floor.MCCONNELL: The biggest lie being told in American politics has been that the states are involved in a systematic effort to suppress the vote. That's not happening....

Pope Francis on Saturday put Robert Schuman, who paved the way for the founding of the European Union, on the path to sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church. The pope approved a decree recognizing the “heroic virtues” of the 20th-century French statesman who died in 1963, the Vatican said in a statement. “Behind the action of the public man, there was the interiority of the man who lived the sacraments, who, when he could, would take to an abbey, who would reflect on the sacred Word before finding the shape of his political words,” the Vatican said about Schuman. The...

Gordon Chang, expert on China and author of THE GREAT U.S. - CHINA TECH WAR, appeared on TUCKER CARLSON TONIGHT Monday to speak further on the likelihood that Dong Jingwei, the 57-year-old head of counterintelligence for the Chinese Ministry of State Security, had flown from Hong Kong to California on February 10 and defected to the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, bringing with him a treasure trove of secret information. Chang reiterated that he thinks the story is true. China is denying that this happened, of course, and both BEIJING DAILY and the Hong Kong publication SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST have...

It’s not surprising to Michel Courtoy, of Saratoga, that people are still being careful. Courtoy walked around Santana Row without a mask because he now feels he has “the freedom to make my own decisions and act in a way I feel appropriate.” Still, Courtoy wears his mask inside stores and when a majority of people around him are wearing one. It’s not out of “social pressure.” It’s a sign of “respect for other people.” “I think if a majority of people in a confined space indoors stop wearing them, I feel I’ll follow the group,” Courtoy said. “But it’s...

It’s neck – and neck – and neck! New Yorkers streamed to the voting booths on Tuesday to cast their ballots in the Big Apple’s hotly contested Democratic mayoral primary — and while it will be a couple of weeks before a winner can be declared, early results showed a three-way race. The first round of the Democratic mayoral primary had Eric Adams (143,657 votes), Maya Wiley (98,014 votes) and Kathryn Garcia (97,093 votes) one, two, three, early returns from the Board of Elections show. But Adams, the Brooklyn borough president, had opened a roughly 10 point lead, with 30.8...

Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa won the GOP mayoral primary in New York City on Tuesday, though he faces low odds of winning November’s general election. Sliwa was declared the winner over restaurateur Fernando Mateo with an over 40-point lead with nearly 70 percent of votes tallied. Both candidates waged bitter campaigns centered around support for law enforcement amid a rise in violent crime in the city. Sliwa, who founded a group of volunteer crime fighters without any legal authorization, cast himself as uniquely qualified to reverse the spike and said he would hire 3,000 more police officers. Sliwa,...

Donald Trump blamed Mike Pence in a Monday evening interview for his 2020 election loss and railed against two Supreme Court picks Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett for voting to uphold Obamacare. 'I am very disappointed. I fought very hard for them, but I was very disappointed with a number of their rulings,' Trump said in an interview with Real America's Voice host David Brody. He also claimed in the Monday interview that his former vice president should have done more to stop Congress certifying the Electoral College results on January 6. 'What's your take on Mike Pence and...
