Drought has dried up what was Mexico’s second-biggest lake, destroying a once thriving fishing economy in Michoacán. The scale of the problem? Lake Cuitzeo should have 800 million cubic meters of water, but today it doesn’t even have 200. Now, the more than 300-square-kilometer reservoir has become a cemetery for fishing boats and a shortcut for motorists to reach Morelia, the state capital of Michoacán. The water disappearance also creates frequent and prolonged dust clouds that sometimes reach nearby communities, affecting health of residents, as well as causing allergies, respiratory illnesses and gastrointestinal complications from the bacteria they transport. Everything...

October 17, 1929 5:00 am The Arab newspaper “Felestin,” controlled by the Jerusalem Grand Mufti, made a sensational onslaught on American newspapers yesterday, singling out the “New York Times.” The paper asked: “Is there no honesty in the American press?” The Mufti denied interviews with Joseph Levy, “New York Times” correspondent, Ketchum of the “London Daily Express,” and Pierre Van Paassen, representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. It’s very unfortunate what has happened to this place. It’s become a situation where what’s right is wrong and what’s good is bad. Nothing that’s happening in it right now is born of any common sense. A big part of the problem is many thousands of people who have no true claim to this place act as though they do. And the porous borders and motivated globalists aren’t helping any. Furthermore, plenty of people are doing all they can to make sure others’ legitimate rights get taken away. Conflict roils within the borders of this place. Despite much clear evidence...

The Supreme Court rejected a case that challenged California’s electoral process by claiming that the state’s “so-called winner-take-all system” dilutes their votes. The lawsuit was filed by comedian Paul Rodriguez, Rocky Chavez, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the California League of United Latin American Citizens, and it had asked the Supreme Court to look into whether the aforementioned “winner-take-all” approach to selecting presidential electors was constitutional.Attorneys for Chavez and Rodriguez—who are both reportedly Republicans—argued (pdf) that California’s system “results in the appointment of members of only one political party to the nation’s largest electoral college delegation.” Chavez previously...

Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it. For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. When Rebecca had a troubled pregnancy, she sought the LORD for answers and He told her, that “Two Nations are in thy Womb…”. She could have no idea how that would all play out in subsequent history. The One child, Esau would become...

The Philippines has for the third time suspended a decision to scrap a two-decade-old Visiting Forces Agreement with the United States, its foreign minister said on Monday, amid a territorial dispute with China in the South China Sea. Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin said the suspension would be for a further six months while President Rodrigo Duterte “studies, and both sides further address his concerns regarding, particular aspects of the agreement”. The Philippines is a treaty ally of the United States, and several military agreements are dependent on the VFA, which provides rules for the rotation of thousands of US...

Vice President Kamala Harris has been facing criticism over her response to a border question on her first foreign trip, and according to a new report, the fact that she was prepared for it is "all the more unnerving" to allies. Harris during her recent trip to Guatemala and Mexico was questioned by NBC News' Lester Holt about why she hasn't visited the southern border, and when Holt pointed out that she hasn't done so, she said, "And I haven't been to Europe. I don't understand the point that you're making." Last week, The Hill reported that her comments "left...

There is no shortage of job openings for local election officials in Michigan. It's the same in Pennsylvania. Wisconsin, too. And an elections leader in Iowa earlier this spring retired early out of frustration. After facing threats and intimidation during the 2020 presidential election and its aftermath, and now the potential of new punishments in certain states, county officials who run elections are quitting or retiring early. The once quiet job of election administration has become a political minefield thanks to the baseless claims of widespread fraud that continue to be pushed by many in the Republican Party. "These conspiracy...

Goldilocks will not be pleased. Texas power prices infamously exploded higher during the frigid temperatures of the February winter storm that crippled so much of the state; and this time, amid blisteringly hot temperatures, Texas power prices are exploding higher once again as The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) asks Texans to reduce electric use as much as possible today through Friday, June 18. Phil Mickelson realizes he has a rare combination going for him this week at the U.S. Open. He has the confidence from winning the PGA Championship last month, coupled with the extra motivation to prepare for an elusive title in his hometown. Mickelson, who turns 51 on Wednesday, said he spent the past week working on his game at Torrey Pines, a place he's had a bit of a love-hate relationship with over the years due to a redesign of the course that changed the way it played when he grew up in the area. As Democrats and Republicans ready themselves for 2022 midterm elections, some GOP congressmembers are facing a steeper-than-usual uphill battle, despite consistently-conservative voting records and reports of caucus-wide respect. The punishing variable? Criticism of former President Donald Trump, however slight. Texas Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican with values largely in touch with his GOP base, denounces President Biden's administration every chance he gets. He supported the recent outster of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from her position in House leadership, and decries the Equality Act. Yet he may still lose primary support among voters following his Jan. 6 vote to certify the...
