While the focus has been largely on vaccines, you might have also heard Pfizer is trialing a pill to treat COVID-19. It almost sounds too good to be true. Indeed, the results are very preliminary — but it’s a promising approach. Where most antiviral agents we’ve tried to treat COVID-19 target the inflammatory and immune response resulting from infection, Pfizer’s pill directly targets SARS-CoV-2 — the virus itself. Mounting our defense against the virus Much of the illness associated with COVID-19 is due to the intense inflammatory and immune response that can occur with an infection. The most successful treatments...

Many Filipinos enjoy Jollibee's fried chicken but one woman found no joy in her meal. On Wednesday (June 2), Alique Perez took to Facebook to express her disgust when the Chickenjoy meal she had ordered via a food delivery app turned out to be something else. Perez was trying to give her son a bite when she found it hard to slice the piece of fried chicken. When she tried to open it up with her hands, she discovered — much to her surprise — that it was a deep-friend towel. "This is really disturbing... How the hell do you...

We have been looking at the prophecies about Jacob and Esau, as the starting point for understanding the current struggle in the Middle East between Israel and her enemies. The Bible lays it all out perfectly and everything it says about the very last conflict and deliverance of Israel is being put into motion. In the difficult pregnancy of Isaac's wife, Rebecca, we are told that Esau would become one of two distinct nations, sometimes stronger than his brother Jacob, but would be subservient to Him. And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two...

The Apostle Paul tells us that he was taken up into the third heaven and saw things to glorious for words. Then he relates to us that least he should be exalted above measure a “thorn in the flesh” was given him by the Lord. Many scholars debate exactly what that “thorn in the flesh” may have been but regardless, he prayed for the Lord to deliver him from it, but the Lord told him that “My grace (free and undeserved favor) is sufficient for you”. Daily, the grace of God is supplied to meet all of our needs, for...

Explanation: The weathered and layered face of Mount Mercou looms in the foreground of this mosaic from the Curiosity Mars rover's Mast Camera. Made up of 21 individual images the scene was recorded just after sunset on March 19, the 3,063rd martian day of Curiosity's on going exploration of the Red Planet. In the martian twilight high altitude clouds still shine above, reflecting the light from the Sun below the local horizon like the noctilucent clouds of planet Earth. Though water ice clouds drift through the thin martian atmosphere, these wispy clouds are also at extreme altitudes and could be...

COVID-19 continues to claim lives around the world and is infecting millions more. Although several vaccines have recently become available, making significant strides towards preventing COVID-19, what about the treatment of those who already have the infection? Vaccines aren't 100% effective, highlighting the need—now more than ever—for effective antiviral therapeutics. Moreover, some people can't receive vaccines due to health issues, and new variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, that can penetrate vaccine-conferred immunity, are being reported, indicating that we need to think beyond prevention. Given this need, a team of researchers based in Japan, the US, and the...

"As an additional precaution, he was...

Most Americans don’t think we can dump Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer until the 2022 mid-term election. That simply is not so. The leadership of the Republican Party at the national level, the state level, and even the county level, have a rarely used option. As a matter of fact, even individual citizens can initiate an effort to exercise this option. It is simple and it is so easy to do. As a matter of fact, it is so easy and so obvious that a lot of people will smack themselves in the forehead and wonder why they didn’t think...

Two young sisters in Utah who apparently wanted to go to California to swim in the ocean took their parents' car on a freeway joyride Wednesday, crossed into oncoming traffic and then crashed head-on into a semi truck. Advertisement But the 9-year-old driver and her 4-year-old sister walked away unscathed, police said. The girls left from their home and apparently intended to head to the beach, according to West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku. "I guess they were intending to start their summer vacation a little early," Vainuku told KSL-TV. From the home, the 9-year-old who was driving the car...

One thing I’ve learned since opening my eyes to the topic of politics is how the source of all manner of issues is never actually dealt with in ways that should be normal, but rather, actions are merely aimed at the symptom. Name the government programs created to cure a problem. They never solve the problem, sometimes make it worse, and forever exist because the symptom never really goes away.

US UFO Investigation: Cleveland Browns Quarterback Baker Mayfield saw a UFO, Obama believes in them, saying, “When it comes to aliens, there’s some things I just can’t tell you on air.” Tucker Carlson was informed there is UFO ‘wreckage.’ Recently, UFO’s are everywhere, and not just private accounts, but in numerous US military reports. Now, U.S. intelligence agencies offer Congress unclassified reports regarding UFOs, or as the Pentagon prefers—Unexplained Aerial Phenomena (UAPs). But the big takeaway—investigators have found no evidence the sightings are linked to aliens—but can’t deny a link either. Yet, an astrophysicist says they look terrestrial.

Shades of Tammy Wynette singing: “Our “D-I-V-O-R-C-E Becomes Final Today.” D-I-V-O-R-C-E-D is the one word missing from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s feeble excuse that recent criticisms of him are “really very much an attack on science,” and “the thread going through what’s happening now is very much an anti-science approach.” The Fauci Folly, falsified like everything else about him, is that he totally divorced himself from Science when he transitioned Science over to Politics.

Should We Fear a Threat to the Latin Mass?Several rumors and certain sites seem to view as probable the publication of a text dealing with, at least partially, the motu proprio Summorum pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI, which authorizes, under certain conditions, the celebration of the traditional Mass and affirms that it had never been abrogated. The first clue is quite remote, but it reveals a certain aversion of the reigning Pope to the traditional liturgy, or his will not to allow its extension, at least among the former “Ecclesia Dei” communities.Indeed, several of these communities, such as the Franciscans of...

At a stop in New Hampshire on Thursday night, former Vice President Mike Pence defended his actions on January 6 and, in the process, may well have doomed (or at the very least hamstrung) his chances of emerging as the Republican presidential nominee in 2024. "January 6 was a dark day in the history of the US Capitol," Pence said. "That same day we reconvened the Congress and did our duty. ... You know, President Trump and I have spoken many times since we left office and I don't know if we'll ever see eye to eye on that day."...

California officials are vowing to fight back after a federal judge overturned the state’s 30-year-old ban on assault weapons. In ruling the ban unconstitutional, U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez compared the AR-15 semiautomatic rifle to a Swiss Army knife, calling it “good for both home and battle.”Benitez, of the Southern District of California, issued a permanent injunction against the law’s enforcement but stayed it for 30 days to give the state a chance to appeal. California is one of seven states, plus Washington, D.C, that ban assault weapons, according to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
