We are learning new details about the possibility of rewarding Central Texans to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Earlier this week, Austin Public Health officials suggested incentives may get more people vaccinated. They are now exploring what those incentives might look like. "My hope is those businesses are listening, and that they are thinking about ways of how they can contribute to help Austin be a healthier place,” said APH Director Stephanie Hayden-Howard. The group is in talks with local companies about offering incentives such as coupons, free food, beverages and even money.

A New York mom is caught between a rock and an appellate court. The upstate woman has been told she needs to ditch a driveway decoration painted with a confederate flag or risk losing custody of her mixed race child — even though a family court judge didn’t consider it to be an issue when it was raised during trial. “Given that the child is of mixed race, it would seem apparent that the presence of the flag is not in the child’s best interests, as the mother must encourage and teach the child to embrace her mixed race identity,...

BRANDON Mitchell, the BLM-supporting juror in Derek Chauvin's trial, has been accused of lying to infiltrate the ex-cop's case. A criminal defense attorney said that Mitchell sitting on the jury gives Chauvin's team a "slam dunk reason" to overturn his conviction. In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, attorney Jonna Spilbor accused Mitchell of lying to get on the jury. "The irony is not lost that most people lie to get out of jury duty," Spilbor said. "I think what we have here is somebody who lied to get on jury duty, specifically for this case, because we now...

A French pilot has filed a legal complaint after being subjected to a traumatic hazing ritual in which he was tied to a target and had fighter jets open fire around him. The unnamed man had just been posted to an airbase in the south of the island of Corsica in March 2019 when he was grabbed by colleagues and tied up with adhesive tape. After having a bag put over his head, the recruit in his 30s was then transported to a live-fire target range, tied to a target, and then heard fighter jets open fire and drop munitions...

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:6, NKJV). In the past I’ve taught that because of the demands of making a living, we may have a “secret closet of prayer” anywhere. It could be in the car, on the bus, during a break at work. This is true in measure, but there is more to it. The Greek word for “closet” in this verse means “a private room,...

“To obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). We can rejoice after enduring a trial because our hope in Heaven will be renewed. The joy a Christian experiences as a result of trials can be the best kind he will ever know. But so often we allow the everyday stress and strain of financial difficulties, health problems, unrealized goals, and many other trials to rob us of our joy in Christ. True joy stems from spiritual realities that are much greater than temporal circumstances. In today’s...

Late Antiquity is full of epoch-making, history-changing events, but up there among the most momentous was the voluntary resignation of Diocletian Jovius and Maximian Herculius from the height of imperial power to private life in AD 305. The announcement of this occurrence must have sent shockwaves throughout the Roman world, particularly considering both men had together celebrated their Vicennalia, or 20th anniversary of their reign, less than two years before. This made them the longest reigning Roman emperors since Antoninus Pius who ruled nearly 150 years previous. And considering how short, miserable, and bloody the reigns of their predecessors of...

The usually quiet residential neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in east Jerusalem is in turmoil. For the past two weeks, young Palestinians have been holding nightly protests against the imminent eviction of several Palestinian families from their homes in the neighborhood, to make way for Jewish settlers. You may get away with this kind of destructive action in Portland, but not here."
