Young adults have fueled the latest surge in COVID-19 cases on a national level, according to the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Rochelle Walensky on Monday blamed the increase in cases on young adults taking part in “youth sports and extracurricular activities,” as well as an increasing spread of more highly transmissible variants from the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, according to a White House press release. The CCP virus, commonly referred to as the novel coronavirus, causes the disease COVID-19 and originated from China early last year, turning into a worldwide pandemic....

KEY POINTS The Supreme Court erased a federal appeals court decision holding that former President Trump violated the Constitution by blocking his critics on Twitter. The justices vacated the decision from the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and sent it back to the lower court with instructions to dismiss the case as “moot,” or no longer active, now that Trump is a private citizen. The action means the lower court’s decision will no longer bind future judges. The announcement came in an order list and without a written explanation of the court’s reasoning. A new method being used for the first time by the U.S. Census Bureau to protect people’s privacy in 2020 census data could hamper voting rights enforcement and make it harder for congressional and legislative districts to have equal populations, according to a report from two leading civil rights groups. In test data, the method known as “differential privacy” made smaller counties appear to have more people than they actually did at the expense of more populous counties. It also made counties appear more homogenous than they really are where clear majorities of people have a specific race or ethnic...

Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas vetoed a bill on Monday that would make it illegal for transgender minors to receive gender-affirming medication or surgery — a rare Republican rejection of the growing conservative effort to restrict transgender people’s health care and participation in society. Republicans hold large majorities in both chambers and passed the bill last month with mostly party-line votes: 70-22 in the House and 28-7 in the Senate. “I was told this week that the nation is looking at Arkansas because I...
