LONDON (Reuters) - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will learn on Monday whether a British judge has approved his extradition to the United States to face charges including espionage over the release of secret U.S. military documents. U.S. authorities accuse Australian-born Assange, 49, of 18 counts of conspiring to hack government computers and of breaching a secrecy law by releasing vast troves of confidential military records and diplomatic cables over a decade ago. If extradited and then found guilty of espionage, Assange could go to prison for 30 to 40 years, his lawyers say, though prosecutors say he would face no...

Iran’s state media has alleged that in addition to the United States, several countries, including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Germany and Britain, had played a role in the assassination of its senior military leader Qassem Soleimani. Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike on January 3, 2020, while visiting Baghdad. According to DEFA Press, more countries would be added to the list once the investigation into Soleimani’s killing is completed. “We must learn from this experience, which came at a great price, and we must make every effort to preserve national unity and cohesion that was achieved...

The telephone conference call @GaSecofState secretly recorded was a ‘confidential settlement discussion’ of that litigation, which is still pending,” Shafer tweeted. Both Georgia and Washington D.C. have one-party consent laws, meaning someone who is party to a conversation does...

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continues to lose support among Republicans in the aftermath of a leaked video where he's caught making vulgar remarks about women. The most recent is former Secretary of State Colin Powell who said, two weeks before Election Day, that he is voting for Democrat Hillary Clinton. The ongoing condemnation from across the Republican Party by elected officials has resulted in 50 Republicans who have demanded he drop out or won't vote for him, according to NBC News' count. Here's how they break out: [cut] Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton said Trump "let us down again" and...

Today, I regretfully objected to the seating of 67 of my colleagues (best estimate), representing the delegations from six states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. I do not make this objection lightly, but believe that I am compelled to do so because a number of my colleagues — whom I hold in high regard — have publicly stated that they plan to object to the acceptance of presidential electors from those particular six states. These members do so because of their deeply held belief that those states conducted elections plagued by statewide, systemic fraud and abuse that leaves...

Cotton warned that if Congress threw out the electoral votes of states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where President Trump has alleged without evidence widespread election fraud, it would “take away the power to choose the president from the people.” He said it would imperil the Electoral College and the voice it gives to smaller states like Arkansas and help Democrats “achieve their longstanding goal of eliminating the Electoral College.” He said Congress if overrides the Electoral College’s vote, it would “take another big step toward federalizing election law.” “Thus, I will not oppose the counting of...

I began our New Years Eve adoration at 11:00 AM with the observation that we begin this prayer in one year, and end in another. New Years Eve features the mysterious passage from one year to another. In a way I suppose it is no more mysterious than the passage from Tuesday to Wednesday or from 10:00 AM to 10:01 AM.In one sense, nothing could be simpler than time. What time is it? It is 1:15. Simple! But time has mysteries about it.What is time? Some say it is merely a measure of change. But that doesn’t really make a...
