ALBANY — When Chesa Boudin was growing up, both his parents were serving long sentences in New York state prisons for their roles in a 1981 armored Brink’s truck robbery in Rockland County that left two Nyack police officers and a security guard dead. Family friend Jeff Jones brought the youngster on prison visits to see his father. Boudin was raised by adoptive parents and the boy left each prison encounter struggling to process feelings of sadness, anger and confusion over his powerlessness to change a criminal justice system that broke his family apart. “I had a lot of emotional...

Police said that Timothy McCoy, 28, robbed and shot Wise Communications employee, Mahmod Khalaf, 48, according to spokesperson Sgt. L'Jean McKneely Jr. McKneely said detectives believe a third person witnessed the incident and shot McCoy as he left the business. That person then ran...

Some of the confusion in thinking about matters of race stems from the ambiguity in the terms that we use. I am going to take a stab at suggesting operational definitions for a couple terms in our discussion of race. Good analytical thinking requires that we do not confuse one behavioral phenomenon with another. Let's start with "discrimination." Discrimination is the act of choice, and choice is a necessary fact of life. Our lives are spent discriminating for or against different activities and people. Some people shop at Wegmans and thus discriminate against Food Giant. Some students discriminate against George...

Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul told Fox News’ “Outnumbered Overtime” Monday that he wants to convince Georgia libertarians to vote Republican in the upcoming U.S. Senatorial election runoffs. Republican Georgia Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler face a January 5 runoff against Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in order to keep their jobs in the Senate and maintain GOP control. “One of the things that I’ve taken upon myself is to try to encourage – there was a little over 100,000 people who voted for Shane Hazel, the libertarian candidate, and I think those people can find a...

NEW YORK - Competence is making a comeback. President-elect Joe Biden has prized staying power over star power when making his first wave of Cabinet picks and choices for White House staff, with a premium placed on government experience and proficiency as he looks to rebuild a depleted and demoralized federal bureaucracy. With an eye in part toward making selections who may have to seek approval from a Republican-controlled Senate, Biden has prioritized choosing qualified professionals while eschewing flashy names. Even the most recognizable pick - John Kerry - lacks the showmanship that has defined the Trump era. In sharp...

There is an explosive investigation in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) regarding the Dominion Voting Machines (DVM) and Brad Raffensperger’s role in easing the security surrounding those machines. According to the AJC, in October the Secretary of State’s office was responsible for weakening the system’s defenses, disabling password protections on a key component that controls who is allowed to vote. Just days before the early voting started, on October 12th, according to the AJC, Raffensperger’s office “pushed out new software to each of the state’s 30,000 voting machines through hundreds of thumb-drives that experts say are prone to infection with malware.”...

In the weeks since U.S. President Donald Trump lost the election, his lead lawyer Rudy Giuliani has repeatedly made baseless claims of widespread voter fraud and the campaign brought a flurry of lawsuits challenging the results, many of which were dismissed. Representative Bill Pascrell, a Democrat, on Friday called for Giuliani and other members of the legal team to be stripped of their law licenses for bringing “frivolous” lawsuits and allegedly attempting to help Republican Trump steal the Nov. 3 vote from President-elect Joe Biden. But legal ethics experts say attorney discipline is relatively rare, especially in politically charged disputes....

The wheels of transition are beginning to turn as the machinery of President Trump’s election challenges are grinding to an eventual halt. So is a concession speech in the cards? Don’t bet on it. And there are solid arguments against it. The decision to release federal funds for the Biden transition effort is a recognition that there is no court ruling in the pipeline that will shine some beacon of hope on an election reversal in the short term. But a concession is another statement altogether. It is worth reviewing what it means. Concession speeches are part of America’s political...

During his campaign rallies, President Donald Trump proclaimed, "We got 'em all" or "We have it all!" In the coming weeks -- if not days -- Americans will find out specifically what he means. Those specifics promise to shake Americans to their core by revealing years of entrenched political corruption reflected in electoral fraud. Lawyer Sidney Powell is providing a preview. Powell, who apparently had been helping Trump's legal team prepare a case against alleged election fraud, told Howie Carr, a conservative radio host in Boston, on Friday: "We've got a number of smoking guns -- and we may have...

President-elect Joe Biden introduced his foreign policy team to the nation Tuesday, saying numerous world leaders have called to tell him they are looking forward to the U.S. returning to “lead the world” after President Donald Trump’s administration. Biden’s foreign policy strategy intends to stray away from Trump’s more contentious relationships with certain world leaders, which Biden’s imminent administration views as unproductive. Biden’s nominee for secretary of state, Tony Blinken, argued America “can’t solve the world’s problems alone.” Biden’s team is notably much more friendly toward China than the current administration, with the incoming president describing the communist regime as...

McCormick is adding a bit more spice to its portfolio with hot sauce Cholula. The company is acquiring the brand from L Catterton, the private equity firm, in an $800 million cash deal, it said Tuesday. It expects to close the deal this year. The hot sauce market has been growing steadily. US sales of hot sauce grew an average of 9.7% every year for the past four years, according to Nielsen. The category got a boost during the pandemic: In the twelve months ending on November 7, sales surged by 24.6%. With the purchase of Cholula, McCormick (MKC) is...

SpaceX sent another batch of Starlink satellites into space Tuesday night, on the heels of the company’s Sentinel-6 ocean-mapping satellite launch from California and Crew-1 astronaut mission from Florida. The company’s Falcon 9 rocket lifted off on time at 9:13 p.m. from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station’s launch complex 40, its fiery tail visible across parts of Central Florida on a cool, clear evening. Then, about eight minutes after launch, SpaceX also recovered the rocket’s booster, marking its seventh flight to date and making it the company’s most re-flown booster. It’s the latest Starlink launch since the program began last...

November 25 2020 Memorial of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, virgin and martyr Wednesday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary TimeLectionary: 505Reading 1 RV 15:1-4 I, John, saw in heaven another sign, great and awe-inspiring: seven angels with the seven last plagues, for through them God’s fury is accomplished. Then I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire. On the sea of glass were standing those who had won the victory over the beast and its image and the number that signified its name. They were holding God’s harps, and they sang the song of Moses, the servant of...

President-elect Joe Biden has given a wide-ranging interview with NBC News, insisting his presidency will not be 'a third Obama term' and suggesting he will not pursue criminal investigations into President Donald Trump once he takes office. Speaking to NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt in Wilmington, Delaware on Tuesday, Biden also revealed that he has not spoken to President Donald Trump directly since the election. One day after a federal agency released a letter authorizing the transition to move forward, Biden described the Trump administration's transition efforts as 'sincere'.

Psst, an occasionally reliable source tells me Joe Biden has settled on a motto for his administration. It’s going to be “The Way We Were.” Just before he announced the first members of his team, the next president was heard singing in his Delaware basement, “Memories light the corners of my mind, “Misty water-colored memories of the way we were.”

Accused child abuser Ghislaine Maxwell is roused by a flashlight every 15 minutes in her cell to make sure she hasn’t killed herself like Jeffrey Epstein — and subjected to more onerous conditions than the Bureau of Prison’s most dangerous inmates, her lawyers wrote Tuesday in a letter. “She is overmanaged under conditions more restrictive than inmates housed in 10South, the most restrictive unit in the MCC; or individuals convicted of terrorism and capital murder and incarcerated at FCI Florence ADMAX, the most restrictive facility operated by the BOP,” the filing states. The letter is in response to a Monday...

Voting by mail is now common enough and problematic enough that election experts say there have been multiple elections in which no one can say with confidence which candidate was the deserved winner. In the last presidential election... He calculated that 3.9 million ballots requested by voters never reached them... The list of very close elections includes the 2008 Senate race in Minnesota, in which Mr. Franken’s victory over Mr. Coleman, the Republican incumbent, helped give Democrats the 60 votes in the Senate needed to pass President Obama’s health care bill. Mr. Franken won by 312 votes, while state officials...

...John F. Kennedy Jr. bore his father’s name and, from the moment he became the first child born to a U.S. President-elect, he captivated the adoring public. Photos of a young JFK Jr. spending time with his parents and sister, Caroline — including in the Oval Office while his doting father, the president, watched on — served to further cultivate the Camelot myth, which in turn proved ever-more devastating when those illusions were shattered by the iconic shot of little John spending his third birthday standing upright and bravely saluting his father’s casket during JFK’s funeral procession...
