Explanation: One of our Solar System's most tantalizing worlds, icy Saturnian moon Enceladus appears in these detailed hemisphere views from the Cassini spacecraft. In false color, the five panels present 13 years of infrared image data from Cassini's Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer and Imaging Science Subsystem. Fresh ice is colored red, and the most dramatic features look like long gashes in the 500 kilometer diameter moon's south polar region. They correspond to the location of tiger stripes, surface fractures that likely connect to an ocean beneath the Enceladus ice shell. The fractures are the source of the moon's icy...

A Massachusetts construction worker’s love of black licorice wound up costing him his life. Eating a bag and a half every day for a few weeks threw his nutrients out of whack and caused the 54-year-old man’s heart to stop, The problem is glycyrrhizic acid, found in black licorice and in many other foods and dietary supplements containing licorice root extract. It can cause dangerously low potassium and imbalances in other minerals, principally electrolytes. Eating as little as 2 ounces of black licorice a day for two weeks could cause a heart rhythm problem, especially for people over the age...

With the recent passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, President Trump is now tasked with the constitutional duty of nominating her replacement. While certainly authoring some opinions that many conservatives across the nation will find disagreeable, Justice Ginsburg was a trailblazer for women in the legal profession. Therefore, it is quite appropriate that President Trump seems poised to nominate another qualified female jurist to fill her role on the nation’s highest court. The announcement of this next nominee is expected to come this Saturday at the White House. Americans in all corners of the country are no doubt...

Biden’s Bishop 12 years of silence If anyone could have strengthened Presidential candidate Joe Biden's Catholic faith and affected the course of history, it is his bishop, William Francis Malooly. For the last 12 years, Malooly has been the former vice president's shepherd in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden's home diocese. It was on Malooly's watch that Biden went from: Refusing to use tax dollars to fund abortion to campaigning for taxpayer-funded abortionSupporting the Defense of Marriage Act to officiating at a so-called gay marriage; andTreasuring the nuns of his youth to suing them endlessly in court Within six weeks of Malooly's arrival in...

CNN anchor Don Lemon, expressing outrage that the President is set to fill another Supreme Court vacancy, suggested America needs to blow up the entire system. The notion even left colleague Chris Cuomo a bit taken aback. Lemon’s grievances surround Trump’s naming of a replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg upon her recent passing. “We’re going to have to blow up the entire system,” Lemon charged. Cuomo replied, “I don’t know about that,” adding that Americans need to vote if they disagree with what is happening in the country. ... White House Press Secretary responded to Lemon’s rant by absolutely...

NASA chief Jim Bridenstine told lawmakers Wednesday it was crucial for the US to maintain a presence in Earth's orbit after the International Space Station is decommissioned so that China does not gain a strategic advantage. The first parts of the ISS were launched in 1998 and it has been continuously lived in since 2000. The station, which serves as a space science lab and is a partnership between the US, Russia, Japan, Europe and Canada, is currently expected to be operated until 2030. "I'll tell you one thing that has me very concerned—and that is that a day is...

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump in the battleground states of Nevada, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, according to Fox News statewide likely voter surveys. In each of the three states, majorities disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, pluralities say coronavirus is “not at all” under control, and Biden is the preferred choice when it comes to handling the virus. His advantage over Trump is outside the...

Thanks to the work of researchers at the University of Queensland in Australia, there could be a side of guacamole to go with all the Mars potatoes. Ph.D. student Chris O'Brien successfully developed a liquid nitrogen cryopreservation technique for avocado shoot tips. It's the same kind of method used to deep-freeze human sperm and eggs. "The aim is to preserve important avocado cultivars and key genetic traits from possible destruction by threats like bushfires, pests and disease such as laurel wilt -- a fungus which has the capacity to wipe out all the avocado germplasm in Florida," O'Brien said in...

Just sharing this with you because it is something I need to learn how to do more often. and more importantly, do it. If you don't have an account with Schwab or other zero commission broker, you need to get one. The pattern is basically this: (1) Watch a few (probably no more than 3 dozen) stocks which (a)trade a lot, (b)have some strong swings, (c)are basically good investments. (2) When news happens which causes a unusual swing (40% in this case, 5% in a more typical case), take the opposite position as the market because such swings are almost...

Today we had more revelations about FBI/Obama Administration wrongdoing in the targeting of General Mike Flynn and other incoming officials in the Trump Administration that took place during the transition period from November 2016 through January 20, 2017. Here’s an excerpt from a report by Mollie Hemingway and Sean Davis at the Federalist: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents tasked by fired former Director James Comey to take down Donald Trump during and after the 2016 election were so concerned about the agency’s potentially illegal behavior that they purchased liability insurance to protect themselves less than two weeks before Trump...

I am a 40-something attorney and mother who lives in a quiet neighborhood with a yard and a garage full of scooters and soccer balls. I often walk with my children to get ice cream and spend weekends hiking through a national park. I am not the type of person who would normally consider becoming a Satanist, but these are not normal times. Like so many other women in the United States, when I learned of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing, my first reaction was not grief but fear. I fear that American citizens are inching closer to living in...

The Communists Know It: Christ Stoned the Adulteress \ A Chinese textbook on professional ethics and law for vocational schools claims that Christ stoned the adulteress in John 8 to death because he wanted to respect the law, reports UcaNews.com (September 22).However, in the original John 8, Christ says, “Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone” adding "go and sin no more."According to the Chinese Communist Gospel Jesus says, “I too am a sinner but if the law could only be executed by men without blemish, the law would be dead.”Legalism, fanaticism, and cruelty are indeed...

Don't get a broken heart over what comes out of Obamagate after the election. The most the Church Commission is remembered for is a Colt 45 that could induce an undetectable heart attack. The only hope from Wm. Barr is that he imagines himself to be too self-respecting to ignore the limp-wristed Boy Scouts who thought they had cojones enough to tangle with a tough NY real estate guy.

Analysts say Israeli agreements with Gulf states could lead to huge financial deals Egypt, Israel, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority signed the charter of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) in a virtual ceremony hosted by Cairo on Tuesday. Natural gas exploration and the massive reserves found in the Eastern Mediterranean over the past several years mean that what began as an informal forum of Egypt, Cyprus, Israel and Greece is now a formal intergovernmental organization based in Cairo. Egypt is positioning itself as an energy and exporter hub in the region. The bloc seeks to promote...

The Legal Marijuana Now Party’s candidate in the race for the Second Congressional District has died, prompting a special election in February. Adam Charles Weeks died earlier this week, said Kevin O’Connor, the party’s candidate for U.S. Senate. “It’s a sad and sudden thing. We are pretty much taken aback,” he said. Weeks was facing off with Democratic U.S. Rep. Angie Craig and Republican candidate Tyler Kistner to represent the district.
