RIGA, Latvia, May 1, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – A Latvian archbishop said the countryÂ’s faithful have been publicly receiving all sacraments throughout the coronavirus pandemic after spiritual leaders convinced authorities that “spiritual food is no less important than physical food” and that “man does not live of bread alone.” Latvia is a small state in Eastern Europe, slightly larger than West Virginia, bordering both the Baltic Sea and Russia. The countryÂ’s population is under two million people, and Lutheranism is the predominant religion. About 20 percent of the population identifies as Catholic. Archbishop Zbigņevs StankeviÄs of Riga sent a statement to...

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - World leaders and organisations pledged $8 billion to research, manufacture and distribute a possible vaccine and treatments for COVID-19 on Monday, but the United States refused to contribute to the global effort. Organisers included the European Union and non-EU countries Britain, Norway and Saudi Arabia. Leaders from Japan, Canada, South Africa and dozens of other countries joined the virtual event, while China, where the virus is believed to have originated, was only represented by its ambassador to the European Union. Governments aim to continue raising funds for several weeks or months, building on efforts by the World...

Attorneys for the city of Pittsburgh are asking a state court to overturn a judge’s order striking down firearm restrictions approved after a 2018 mass shooting at a synagogue. The three ordinances were approved in April 2019 following the October 2018 mass shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue that killed 11 worshippers. Gun rights advocates fought the ordinances, and a judge struck down the measures in October, saying Pennsylvania law forbids municipalities from regulating firearms and the ordinances were “void and unenforceable.” City lawyers argue in briefs filed late last week that neither lawmakers nor the state’s highest court...

LEICESTER, United Kingdom - Scotland’s bishops are in dialogue with the government to open Churches for worship “as soon as possible.” Archbishop Leo Cushley of St. Andrews and Edinburgh published a video on Twitter where he revealed the bishops are speaking to the government and other authorities about methods to “move forward: What the next steps will be, and how to open our churches as soon as we possibly can do so; doing it safely, doing it well, and with a sense of public responsibility as well.” The United Kingdom went into lockdown on March 23, which included closing all...

Why put so much emphasis on people gathering in worship once a week, when there are far more people crowding in public transport, pharmacies, and grocery stores?According to the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Georgia, a ban on Church attendance is an unjustified offense against God, and those who reject the Church’s Communion thereby reject Christ Himself. “Communion from one chalice is the highest confirmation of the love and unity of the flock with Christ, and those who refuse this, refuse the Savior . . . "The Georgian Patriarchate issued a strong statement, both reiterating its call for...

Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose “expert” advice to President Trump has resulted in the complete shutdown of the greatest economic engine in world history, has known since 2005 that chloroquine is an effective inhibitor of coronaviruses. How did he know this? Because of research done by the National Institutes of Health, of which he is the director. In connection with the SARS outbreak - caused by a coronavirus dubbed SARS- CoV - the NIH researched chloroquine and concluded that it was effective at stopping the SARS coronavirus in its tracks. The COVID-19 bug is likewise a coronavirus, labeled SARS-CoV-2. While not...

I’m hearing that Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s Space X are working on a project with NASA that would be the first narrative feature film – an action adventure – to be shot in outer space. It’s not a Mission: Impossible film and no studio is in the mix at this stage but look for more news as I get it. But this is real, albeit in the early stages of liftoff. Mission: Impossible Fallout took a break, literally when he broke his ankle in a leap from one rooftop to the other and he also hung from a helicopter;...

Despite the millions of cases and hundreds of thousands of deaths that have occurred in this devastating coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, no peer-reviewed studies of specific therapies proven to be effective in reducing mortality have been published and a vaccine is many months to years away. To date, more than 1000 studies addressing various aspects of COVID-19 are registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, including more than 600 interventional studies and randomized clinical trials (RCTs).1 During the next few weeks and months, the results of numerous RCTs involving therapies for COVID-19 will be reported. Indeed, preliminary results from some studies have already...

State Rep. Cris Dush said Gov. Tom Wolf’s lack of transparency in his management of the coronavirus crisis resembles a page out of a “socialist playbook.” At Monday’s House State Government Committee, the Jefferson County Republican lawmaker criticized the governor’s reluctance to share information with the press or the public related to decisions his administration has made in response to the pandemic. Dush wants more transparency surrounding the number of COVID-19 patients who have recovered and the waiver application process related to the governor’s order to close businesses. “More and more I go back to the German Democratic Nationalist Socialist...

More U.S. likely voters say it’s “time for America to get back to work” despite the COVID-19 pandemic, but that plurality is driven by conservatives, results of a national Rasmussen Reports survey released Monday reveal. While 43% of voters nationwide say “Yes,” it’s time to get back to work, 38% say “No,” it’s not. Another 19% are “unsure,” according to the survey of 1,000 voters conducted April 30 and May 3, 2020. Report this ad But, 71% of conservatives say it’s time for the country to return to work, compared to just 30% of moderates. Only 14% of liberals say...

"Having summoned His twelve disciples, [Jesus] gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Now the names of the twelve apostles were these" (Matt. 10:1-2). Every disciple must also be a discipler. Have you ever met someone who constantly absorbs what the church has to offer, yet never seems to plug into a ministry where he can give to others? I've met many people like that. Some have attended church for many years, and have even taken evangelism and other special training classes. But they never...

Many gays with kids face the same challenges of straights with kids. How do you teach children morals? How do you get gum out of the dog’s hair? How do you teach children manners? How do you get your son or daughter into Harvard, Notre Dame, the Olympics or NBA Basketball? But a few of the challenges arise only in that particular environment of the gay man or men raising one or more straight sons. Boys grow up, and sometime between the period of cute adolescence and mature adulthood, there is that time when a son is a rebellious teenager....

Finally! A Grim Reaper who's trying to save lives.Move over “Florida man” stories, because 2020 is shaping up to be the year of the “Florida lawyer.” That is if Florida attorney Daniel Uhlfelder has anything to do with it. Uhlfelder is the man you’ve probably heard of by now who achieved nationwide notoriety by dressing as the archetypal representation of Death itself in order to caution Florida beachgoers against the dangers of reopening pandemic-stricken beaches too soon. When I heard of this story, I immediately sent Uhlfelder an email asking for an interview. He responded within just a few minutes...

I posted another thread a couple weeks ago for a charity that has become near and dear to my heart. Unfortunately, Gretchen Smith's success with running Code of Vets (COV) has just increased demand with each success. In the past several weeks, her charity has joined forces with legendary country music star and Christian, Charlie Daniels @charliedaniels. COV recently had a push to raise $50k in one day and did it!! Unfortunately the demand is up to $100k. Based on their Twitter @codeofvets account, the average request is around $1k and it's for food, utilities and rent. Even if it's...

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) has been one of the most tyrannical governors during the Wuhan coronavirus. In fact, part of her shelter-in-place order was so ridiculous it banned the sale of "non-essential" items, like seeds for gardening. She even went so far as banning people from traveling between two residences. But, in her mind, her orders were "one of the nation's more conservative" stay-at-home orders. For someone who is convinced she knows what is best for Michiganders, on Monday she proved that she is not as up-to-date on health care practices as she claimed. While lecturing residents on how...

Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer said on Monday that he was surprised to hear President Trump say that Tara Reade's sexual assault allegations against 2020 Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden sound “credible.” “Frankly, if I were the president, I would just stay out of that because this is what we got into with Kavanaugh, right? 'Was it credible, was it not credible, were there corroborating witnesses?’” the former White House press secretary said on “Outnumbered Overtime.”

The United States has to be willing to risk losing a carrier in a pitched battle. ere's What You Need To Remember: There are probably ways to break the Chinese kill chain using electronic or cyber-warfare that would allow a carrier strike group to fight inside the DF-26’s range. But once the missiles are en route, the key might lie in the Naval Integrated Fire Control-Counter Air (NIFC-CA) battle network combined with the firepower of the carriers’ escort vessels. The U.S. Navy’s carrier fleet is increasingly challenged in the Western Pacific as China continues its efforts develop anti-access/area denial (A2/AD)...

(Hidalgo, Texas) Crews from Southwest Valley Constructors Company have already cleared the area and poured concrete for the foundation of the 18-foot-tall metal bollard border wall. They also are shoring up the existing earthen levee, which was originally built by the International Boundary and Water Commission, and atop is where the new border wall is to be built, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials told Border Report. However, no border wall bollards have been erected yet. This 11-mile border wall project consists of three non-contiguous sections and is expected to cost the federal government $304 million when completed. It will...
