How did he know this? Because of research done by the National Institutes of Health, of which he is the director. In connection with the SARS outbreak - caused by a coronavirus dubbed SARS- CoV - the NIH researched chloroquine and concluded that it was effective at stopping the SARS coronavirus in its tracks. The COVID-19 bug is likewise a coronavirus, labeled SARS-CoV-2. While not exactly the same virus as SARS-CoV-1, it is genetically related to it, and shares 79% of its genome, as the name SARS-CoV-2 implies. They both use the same host cell receptor, which is what viruses use to gain entry to the cell and infect the victim.

Thanks for posting this. I had actually posted a link to that exact study before (that I originally found on Zero Hedge) just to have a couple of Freepers try to claim it had no value, because it was only tested in the lab. Seems to me the study had value, else it would have never been done, and at least this author agrees.
Yes it is absolutely astounding that they have not been giving the drug to people as soon as they test positive or as soon as they develop any symptoms. As the doctor quoted said, there is not a single medically sound reason to withhold anti-biotics to a patient with an infection. This drug may not have saved every life, but I believe from what I have seen and read it could have been very effective.
It may not be perfectly prophylactic, but it could have stopped viral replication and onset of symptoms.
And I knew right away that the VA hospital report was complete horsecrap just by reading the introduction. It is a post hoc analysis of outcomes without regard to any controls; and given to people who were already very likely to die. 80% of people put on ventilators die. Nobody is questioning the use of ventilators though. 91% of people given this HQC cocktail recovered. There will not ever be a perfect controlled trial for this we have to just take the data we have and crunch it - and the data says this combination works very well; while ventilators do not work well at all.
