But once the missiles are en route, the key might lie in the Naval Integrated Fire Control-Counter Air (NIFC-CA) battle network combined with the firepower of the carriers’ escort vessels.
The U.S. Navy’s carrier fleet is increasingly challenged in the Western Pacific as China continues its efforts develop anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) capabilities. Some of those systems include the infamous DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile and Xian H-6K bomber armed with advanced air-launched cruise missiles.
Many here in Washington believe that the solution to the problem is to increase the range of the carrier air wing so that the ship could standoff 1200 nautical miles offshore. That distance would allow the carrier to remain outside the range of Chinese A2/AD systems. The Navy would accomplish that task by developing a new class of unmanned long-range broadband all-aspect stealth aircraft that could penetrate even the densest air defenses.

The new evil empire must be defeated.. or at least set back many decades. And it has to be done while Trump is still in office.
A nuclear aircraft carrier may not be maneuverable but it is not a slow vessel either.

We are seriously discussing losing a fleet carrier to a missile fired by Red China - while our stores are stacked full of Red Chinese junk. And more junk is being imported every day.
The Chinese leadership must be both amazed and amused.
The key lies in reducing launch sites to radioactive rubble before anyone can launch a missile.
We are at war with China, it’s just not at the shooting stage as far as we know. Personally I think the best argument for this Wuhan Virus *not* being created in a lav is that it also kills Asians; if I were Xi I’d have a big ol’ bonus ready for the first team to create something that targets non-Asians.
They have been at war with us since we supported the Brits in the Opium Wars.
And BLATANTLY at economic war with us since Nixon started opening everything up.

A fellow shipmate on a carrier told me they had done a North Pac. That year they had a storm at sea. The carrier at full engines was doing negative knots.
Carriers are man made. They are fallible and sinkable no matter what anyone says. I didn’t say it was not hard to sink a carrier, but then again they said the Titanic wouldn’t sink either.

The Chinese view themselves as the superior race. Their intent is to restore China to the center of world civilization. The United States is seen as an impediment to that.
