India is four times more populous than the US, but has just 2% the number of cases and only 1.5% of the number of Covid-19 deaths. How has the country, whose per capita income is just tenth of the US, avoided being flattened by the pandemic? There are four possible explanations: 1. The epidemic may have struck later than in other countries. Since epidemics have exponential growth at the start, a small delay can have massive effects on the number of cases. 2. India’s 21-day lockdown may have successfully suppressed the epidemic. Physical distancing is one of the best ways...

Republicans in the Richmond area will have a month and a half longer to pick a nominee to run against Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-7th, in November. The coronavirus pandemic also is pushing the Virginia Democratic Convention into the virtual realm. A Richmond judge on Tuesday granted a request from the Republican Party of Virginia to push the deadline for nominating a challenger from June 9 to July 28. The party had been scheduled to hold a convention April 25 at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond, but is looking into other options with executive orders from Gov. Ralph Northam limiting...

The coronavirus that has ravaged the world, effectively bringing it to a halt, is not as resistant to high temperatures as previously believed, a new study notes. The research, which was published in the bioRxiv repository and has not been peer-reviewed yet, notes that researchers from France infected African green monkey kidney cells with COVID-19, placing the cells in a "dirty" environment and a "clean" environment. Both vials were heated to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius) for one hour and the researchers found the virus was still able to replicate. However, higher temperatures for a shorter period of time...

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across the world, killing thousands and bringing economies to their knees, doctors, scientists and governments are on the lookout for safe and effective treatments to help those who are sick. And yet a large issue with COVID-19 is that there is, as yet, no cure. Though there are treatments that can alleviate the symptoms—such as difficulty breathing—they do not address the underlying cause: the virus. The idea is that treating the symptoms will help prolong a patient's life and buy time for their own immune systems to kick in and remove the infection.While...

Three southern California churches who want to remain open amid the coronavirus pandemic filed a lawsuit against Gov. Gavin Newsom and other officials on Monday, arguing that stay-at-home orders violate their First Amendment right to freedom of religion and assembly. The Center for American Liberty, a conservative non-profit, filed the lawsuit in the federal court for the Central District of California on behalf of three pastors and one parishioner in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, east of Los Angeles. Attorney General Xavier Becerra and officials of San Bernardino and Riverside counties are also named as defendants. Newsom, a Democrat, and...

"I'm hoping Dr. Jill becomes the surgeon general," Whoopi Goldberg told her audience on "The View" just a month ago. "She's a hell of a doctor. She's an amazing doctor." Goldberg, who appeared to be wearing a white mop on her head, could almost be forgiven her ignorance. In propping up her senescent husband, Joe, the solicitous Dr. Biden gives off aggressive caregiver vibes. To further the confusion, Jill Biden relentlessly attributes to herself the status of "doctor." A quick Google search of "Dr. Jill Biden" nets more than 2 million hits. On Whitehouse.gov, Twitter , and Facebook, among others,...

As reporters looked on during a contentious White House briefing this week, President Trump stepped aside and played a brief video showing several media figures downplaying the coronavirus in January and February, including some personalities who now argue the president didn't act quickly enough. Looking back, members of both parties have mud on their face for past predictions and assessments. A timeline compiled by Fox News of coronavirus statements from journalists, world bodies, politicians and their senior advisers from January to March offers insights into how fluid and unclear the situation was. For example, Biden's top coronavirus adviser, Ron Klain,...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday said he has extended the unemployment call center hours to help the record 2.7 million Californians who have filed claims and created a fund to help undocumented immigrants, who comprise 10% of the state's workforce. The $2 trillion federal stimulus package did not include aid to undocumented workers. ... But Newsom was steadfast in his support for the state's diverse workforce and that as a...

There are a lot of people on Wall Street and in Washington who see no problem with an America defined by big box stores and chain restaurants. California released a plan Tuesday to reopen businesses. One thing conspicuously missing from the governor’s slideshow was any sort of timeline, replaced instead by a six-point plan to remake society around fear of the coronavirus. Could be June, he said in a press conference, or even July or August. One thing conspicuously included was the observation that “things will look different,” including restaurants having to open “with fewer tables.” California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom...

Morning "The precious blood of Christ." 1 Peter 1:19 Standing at the foot of the cross, we see hands, and feet, and side, all distilling crimson streams of precious blood. It is "precious" because of its redeeming and atoning efficacy. By it the sins of Christ's people are atoned for; they are redeemed from under the law; they are reconciled to God, made one with him. Christ's blood is also "precious" in its cleansing power; it "cleanseth from all sin." "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." Through Jesus' blood there is not a...

A 99-year-old woman is on the road to recovery from the coronavirus after exercising the Right To Try Act and receiving hydroxychloroquine treatment, her family says. Doctors say Evelyn Rand is doing “outstanding” and has hope for a “full recovery” after being one of the first of 38 residents in her Little Rock, Arkansas, nursing home to be diagnosed with the coronavirus, according to THV 11 News. Rand’s family credits the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, which has been touted by President Trump to the dismay of many of his critics, as effective in helping her recover. Thousands of protesters on foot and in vehicles converged Wednesday on Michigan’s capital to rally against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home orders in the state. “Operation Gridlock,” organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition, created a huge bumper-to-bumper traffic jam around the Michigan Capitol Building in Lansing, Fox 2 Detroit reported. Meshawn Maddock, an organizer for the group, said the demonstrators include Republicans, Democrats, and independents. It seems that Michigan’s authorities are not impressed with the ongoing protests as Michigan judge has issued an order authorizing a county health officer and police to arrest and jail anyone they suspect of being sick...
