Vatican City, Apr 9, 2020 / 08:00 am ( CNA ).- China’s first canonized saint was martyred by suffocation on a cross in Wuhan, the epicenter of today’s coronavirus pandemic. St. Jean-Gabriel Perboyre, a Vincentian missionary priest from France, was betrayed by one of his catechumens for money, bound in chains, tortured, tied to a wooden cross and strangled to death in Wuhan in 1840.Dr. Anthony Clark, a professor of Chinese history, spent time in Wuhan researching the life of Perboyre and St. Francis Regis Clet, another 19th-century Vincentian priest martyred in Wuhan.Clark told CNA that Wuhan’s martyr saints...

That is how I read his remarks in the interview with Laura Ingraham earlier this week. RCP’s Ian Schwartz has posted video and transcript at RealClearPolitics under the headline “Barr: Russian Collusion Probe Into Trump “One Of The Greatest Travesties In American History.” I have posted the video below. This must be a preview of coming attractions. Quotable quote: “My own view is that the evidence shows that we’re not dealing with just mistakes or sloppiness. There is something far more troubling here, and we’re going to get to the bottom of it. And if people broke the law, and...

The FBI was warned sections of the controversial Steele dossier could have been part of a "Russian disinformation campaign to denigrate U.S. foreign relations," according to newly declassified footnotes from a government watchdog report.... Footnote 350 in the IG report addresses the FBI's knowledge of Russian contacts with Steele and the potential for disinformation. Steele had "frequent contacts with representatives for multiple Russian oligarchs, we identified reporting the Crossfire Hurricane team received from (redacted) indicating the potential for Russian disinformation influencing Steele's election reporting." The footnote also indicates that warnings to the FBI's Russia probe became more pronounced over time.......

It was concerning a physician who tested the efficacy of various types of masks in an epidemiological setting. Cloth and surgical masks were efficient for stopping 60% of infection. Three paper towels folded in half stopped 70%. Thanks.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has a message for the religiously faithful residents of New York City: “If you go to your synagogue, if you go to your church, and attempt to hold services after having been told so often not to, our enforcement agents will have no choice but to shut down those services.” Law enforcement agents rounding up people outside their churches is a painful image, out of place in America. Is it time to ask if we have gone too far in our attempts to contain the Coronavirus? The reality is beginning to set in: Millions of Christians...

Dr. Fauci is the man behind the greatest economic disaster in US history. Fauci and his cohorts, including Dr. Deborah Birx, were able to convince the president of the United States to lock down the greatest economy in world history. Fauci used ever-changing bogus “models” and completely false assumptions to put at least 16 million Americans out of work in one month. The coronavirus pandemic continues to target seniors, obese people and diabetics. Healthy people under 60 are able to survive the COVID-19 with very rare exceptions. We are about to see the devastation of relying on such inept, political...

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper may soon find out what it's like to become "resistance" heroes among President Trump's detractors and targets of his wrath. The pair of Democratic officials will have considerable say about whether to cancel the Republican National Convention, set for Charlotte on Aug. 24-27, due to social distancing concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic. Doing so would be an unprecedented move, but potentially in-line with health guidelines they've been pushing at the municipal and statewide level.

RICHMOND, Va. – Gov. Ralph Northam is removing what he calls ‘medically-unnecessary’ restrictions on women’s health care. The governor signed the Reproductive Health Protection Act, sponsored by Senator Jennifer McClellan and House Majority Leader Charniele Herring. Senate Bill 733 will allow any person jointly licensed by the Board of Medicine and Nursing as a nurse practitioner acting within such person’s scope of practice to perform a first trimester abortion. Also, the bill eliminates all of the procedures and processes, including the performance of an ultrasound, required to effect a pregnant woman’s informed written consent to the performance of an abortion....

At yesterday’s Coronavirus Task Force press conference, the execrable CNN hack Jim Acosta accused President Donald Trump and the Task Force experts of engaging in “happy talk” for the American People. Acosta cites unnamed “governors” and “hospital professionals” who complain of shortages of PPE, ventilators and other equipment while on the air at CNN. He of course refuses to name a single name, because he is making most, if not all of it up at this point. Below is a 6 minute clip of the exchange, followed by a transcript of most of the President’s remarks. As is his habit,...

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz unloaded on his Democratic colleagues on Friday in response to Sen. Dianne Feinstein sending a letter to President Trump declaring that she is “disappointed” in his administration’s plan to block funding to the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, Iran. The Democrats’ demand of Trump to help Iran get $5 billion in aid, Cruz noted, comes “at the exact same time” that they are “blocking desperately need relief to small businesses in America.” In late March, a group of Democratic lawmakers — among them Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), and Rashida Tlaib (MI), and...

On this date in 1554, rebel leader Thomas Wyatt the Younger tied on his own blindfold and laid his head on the block, having declared that not “any other now in your durance [i.e., the Tower] was privy to my rising” That remark exculpated the Princess Elizabeth, who just days before had been ominously rowed to the Tower on suspicion of having known of or involved herself in Wyatt‘s abortive revolt. And Wyatt had had to do more than talk the talk to keep the future Queen Elizabeth I out of the executioner’s way. Sore afraid that Wyatt’s rebellion had...

One thing that Chinacrats (democrats and media who appear to be on the China payroll)Â continue to harp on is the alleged "slow response" by the Trump administration. As usual, they are ignorant of the facts and the fact is Trump has been given a lot of really bad information. Despite that, he has done a great job. There are stooges and incompetents at the heads of many agencies, here and abroad. The World Health Organization is headed by a Communist who is a puppet of the Chinese Communist Party. Early on he fed the world incredibly false and damaging...

A zonkey is a highly unusual hybrid between a zebra and donkey. The gestation period of a zebra is twelve months, so it’s not difficult to connect the dots. During her time living within the community last year, she had obviously become acquainted with an amorous donkey. The zonkey combines the sturdy body of its donkey sire and the striped legs of its zebra mother, which makes for a striking creature. While it should otherwise lead a normal life, zonkeys are mules, meaning that it will be unable to successfully breed once it reaches maturity. We’re happy to report that...

We have a problem in this country right now with regard to producing and distributing the combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin that, according to studies, have shown promising results when used to combat COVID-19. As a business owner, I have been blessed to receive everything I have today because I lived in a time and place where free markets are the primary organizing force of economic activity. Free markets are also credited with being the best way to create a better quality of life for the greatest number of people. They also perform more mechanical functions. Free markets allocate scarce...

As the Civil War drew to its end, Confederate General Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865 — Palm Sunday — near Appomattox Court House. Then, four days later, on April 14 — Good Friday — President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theatre. He would die the next day. Thomas Nast, the most famous political cartoonist of the period, commemorated the coincidence with an illustration pairing an image of Christ entering Jerusalem, the event that is commemorated every Palm Sunday, with an image of Lee surrendering to Grant at Appomattox....

John Ioannidis, a professor of medicine, epidemiology, and population health at Stanford University, says he's "perfectly happy" to be under virtual lockdown in California due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And he readily acknowledges the importance of sensitizing the public to following instructions to shelter in place to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. In addition, Ioannidis recognizes that a large number of people may die from COVID-19. But in a video posted on YouTube, the codirector of the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford said he worries that media outlets are "falling into a trap of sensationalism". And he suggested...

Four fossilized monkey teeth discovered deep in the Peruvian Amazon provide new evidence that more than one group of ancient primates journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa. The teeth are from a newly discovered species belonging to an extinct family of African primates known as parapithecids. Fossils discovered at the same site in Peru had earlier offered the first proof that South American monkeys evolved from African primates.
