Like week-old meat left in a hot car, the stench of defeat is starting to overpower the swag pens and stifled giggles in the Democrats' impeachment project. Axios has fresh news about how bad it is: Officials in both parties tell me that — barring surprise new information — President Trump is on a glide path to swift acquittal at his Senate impeachment trial, despite a blizzard of evidence bolstering Democrats' accusations. Why it matters: Trump has a decent chance of avoiding witnesses and of losing zero Republican votes on conviction. Think about that: When the news broke, did anyone...

President Trump’s legal team on Sunday previewed what will be the meat of their forthcoming defense this week by saying that even if all the allegations Democrats laid out last week were true, they would still fall short of “impeachable” offenses under the U.S. Constitution. After House Democrats got their chance to make the case against Mr. Trump last week, the focus now turns to the defense as Republicans eye an end to a Senate impeachment trial that could see a vote to acquit the president by the end of the week. “Even if the factual allegations are true —...

This is the singer’s third pro-Trump fashion statement at the music awards show; she notified the White House that she would wear “something to be supportive.” Known for making political style statements on the red carpet, singer-songwriter Joy Villa turned up at the 62nd Grammy Awards in Los Angeles wearing a gown in support of President Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign. This is her third showing of support for Trump on the red carpet.

Data from Virginia gun dealers show there were 73,849 firearm sales in December 2019, an increase of 47% over the number of gun sales in December 2018, reported the Associated Press. Sales soared apparently "due to growing fears of increased firearms restrictions backed by Democrats who control the state government," said the AP. Since 1990, the only month that topped last month for gun sales was December 2012, when there were an estimated 75,120 firearm sales.

During an interview on MediaBuzz the same day, Grisham said she had not spoken to the president about his tweet but added that she believes Schiff is “obsessed” with Trump. “I think [Trump] means [Schiff] hasn’t yet paid the price with the voters. He hasn’t paid the price yet with the people of this country who see that he's been lying and very obsessed and, quite frankly, it seems like he’s having a little bit of a mental issue when you sit on the floor for hours and hours and hours. He is obsessed with this president and trying to...

In some towns, it’s getting harder to pick up your blood-pressure pills with that gallon of milk and rotisserie chicken. Hundreds of regional grocery stores in cities from Minneapolis to Seattle are closing or selling pharmacy counters, which have been struggling as consumers make fewer trips to fill prescriptions and big drugstore chains tighten their grip on the U.S. market. Grocery pharmacies are getting hit on several fronts, analysts and the companies say. They are too small to wrest competitive reimbursement rates on drugs, they aren’t connected to big medical networks or insurers, and they generally lack walk-in clinics and...

... It is also entirely possible that the Bidens’ actions, whether or not provably illegal, were so objectively suspicious, so suggestive of corruption, that it was perfectly reasonable for Trump to believe that they should be investigated — and that they could have violated American law, as well as Ukrainian law. The president’s defense has not been given a fair opportunity to prove that. Even though the House impeachment managers are now arguing about Biden corruption allegations in their Senate presentation, the two leaders of the House impeachment inquiry, Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler, took the position that Republican claims...

The U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad was hit by multiple rockets on Sunday, two U.S. officials told ABC News. This is the first time the compound has been hit directly in years and comes just weeks after pro-Iranian militia members and their supporters assaulted the compound in Iraq. Rocket attacks on the Green Zone are very common. Last week three rockets were fired into Baghdad's Green Zone, the heavily fortified area of the capital that houses the embassy, government buildings and U.S. service members. Iraqi officials said Monday that there were no injuries. Both U.S. officials told ABC News that...

Happy Australia Day to our readers Down Under. The future shows up so fast in Oz that it's already Post-Australia Day in Australia, but the national holiday takes longer to work its way around to my neck of the woods, and the great merit of our tardy overseas jubilations is that they don't seem to be afflicted by the paroxysms of self-loathing, virtue-signaling and guilt-tripping with which the Aussie media now observe the occasion (which may be why my old chum Julie Bishop is celebrating the day from the safe distance of Earl's Court). Anyway, this is the first Australia...

CNN reporter Joe Lockhart "broke a story" he at first claimed to be based on a conversation he said he overheard between two GOP senators. He alleged that the senators were dazzled by the "irrefutable arguments" of House impeachment manager Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif) that supposedly "left the entire Republican Party in deep s**t." Later Lockhart admitted he made up the story, but still vouched for its "veracity, because we all know what the GOP scum are thinking." CNN president Jeff Zucker defended Lockharts's methods saying, "when the target isn't forthcoming about what he's really thinking we expect our news...

Muslim sex grooming gangs, like drugs or prostitution, are too widespread to be enforced out of existence because, like college students and pot, the culture doesn’t accept that they are wrong. The police did nothing because these were not isolated crimes by criminals, but clashes of morals and values between two communities, one of which does not believe that child rape is wrong because its sacred texts tell it that Mohammed married Aisha and consummated his marriage when she was 9. There are nearly 2 million child marriages in Pakistan. The notion that a woman’s consent to sexual relations matters...

Restrictions that allow a significant number of people to move about, either with official approval or unsanctioned “black market” activity, cannot stop the spread of contagious diseases. Like everyone else, I’ve been reading the mainstream media reports on the Coronavirus epidemic. I haven’t found any information about the practicalities that immediately occur to me, such as: 1. When public transportation is halted and commerce grinds to a halt as people avoid public places and gatherings, thousands of employees no longer go to work. Who pays their wages while the city is locked down? The employers? Then who compensates the employers,...

It is a propensity of human nature to be much more interested in the bad news than the good. Hence news media seemed to almost delight in the shock of Australia 'burning'. There were many phenomenal pictures, hysterical headlines and apocalyptic analyses. In recent days, though, there has been some welcome good news and yet, to a large extent, this is buried away in mid-page columns, if reported at all. I guess 'Australia being blessed by rain', is not as dramatic as 'Australia burning in hell'. Many fires are still ongoing but there have been some remarkable stories and pictures of...

The Virginia Department of Health is investigating three possible cases of the novel coronavirus. The three patients, two in central Virginia and one in Northern Virginia, meet the clinical and epidemiologic criteria for the virus that's prompted China to put millions under quarantine, the Virginia Department of Health said Sunday. The health department has not released more specific information about where the patients live, work or have traveled.
