Missouri's eight-week abortion ban was temporarily blocked from being implemented by a federal judge on Tuesday. The regulation was scheduled to go into effect on Wednesday. State legislators in May passed the "Missouri Stands for the Unborn," act, a sweeping piece of anti-abortion legislation. In addition to banning the procedure after eight weeks into a woman's pregnancy, the legislation includes a "trigger law" and a ladder of less-restrictive time limits ranging from 14 to 20 weeks, depending on what the courts find to be constitutional. In late July, Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Paul Weiss LLP —...

Oakland based Hound Labs has created a breath detector for pot and alcohol, giving police and employers a new tool to detect whether someone has been using weed.OAKLAND, California -- Since recreational cannabis became legal in 2018, the California highway patrol says arrests and injuries from drivers getting behind the wheel stoned has increased, but there are no consistent standards for determining when a driver took that cannabis, until now. One Bay Area company says it can now narrow down when someone is too stoned to drive. At DUI checkpoints across the state, police are seeing an increase in the...

Washington Post columnist Michael Gerson, who worked in the White House under former President George W. Bush, said the Trump presidency is “unraveling.” Gerson bashed President Trump in his latest column published Thursday. Bush’s top aide and director of presidential speech writing outlined a series of attacks against Trump and his policies from immigration and foreign policy to the president’s unpredictable rhetoric. "The Trump presidency is not just unfolding, it is unraveling. All narcissists believe they are at the center of the universe," Gerson wrote. "But what happens when a narcissist is actually placed at the center of the universe?...

Three members of Jackson Township boards dealing with development have tendered their resignations, following the release of recordings of their attendance at a meeting aimed at stopping the construction of a housing project geared towards Orthodox Jews. Controversy began after an anonymous leak to local officials and media surfaced that Richard Egan, who was a member of Jackson’s Planning Board, and Sheldon Hofstein and Joseph Sullivan who served on its Zoning Board, were present at what was labeled as the town’s inaugural CUPON meeting. CUPON (Citizens United to Protect Our Neighborhoods) has been active in New York’s Rockland County for...

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s campaign has disbursed tens of thousands of dollars in “travel expenses” to the company owned by the political strategist whose wife accused him Tuesday of having an affair with the Minnesota Democrat. Federal Election Commission (FEC) records reveal the Omar campaign began making travel reimbursements to Tim Mynett’s company, E. Street Group, LLC, on April 1, about a week before Dr. Beth Jordan Mynett said her husband admitted to having an affair with the congresswoman, according to a divorce filing the New York Post first reported on.

Whenever God does ANYTHING in this world, He is opposed and hated. Anything at all. If God makes His mark, here on Earth, either the Devil tries to wreck it, or Satan inspires his children to do so. This disdain for all creation and any constructive thing is an anti-Logos, pernicious spirit of ruin. This deep brand of hate is a religious way of thinking, and this feeling can be as shallow or go as deep as it wants. The hate I’m talking about can be a subtle inclination, or it can be an overt obsession. For example, you can be either a Soviet-minded Bolshevist, or you could simply be a vandalizer—you’re serving the Evil Cause in some capacity.

President Trump on Tuesday dismissed three potential Republican presidential primary challengers as "Three Stooges" as he seeks reelection in 2020. In a pair of tweets, the president mocked former Reps. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) as well as former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld (R). Walsh and Weld have announced GOP primary campaigns against Trump in 2020, while Sanford has said he is considering one as well. "Can you believe it? I’m at 94% approval in the Republican Party, and have Three Stooges running against me," Trump tweeted. "One is Mr. 'Appalachian Trail' who was actually in Argentina for...

Overseas patients have left the NHS with more than £150million in unpaid bills for treatment, a Daily Mail investigation reveals. The cash could pay for 6,000 nurses, 22,000 heart bypasses or nearly 5,500 junior doctors. Two hospitals in London are owed £28million each, including almost £500,000 from one patient alone. The revelation comes amid a new-found reluctance among frontline staff to chase payments, with doctors' leaders saying their obligation to charge overseas patients is 'racist' and deters vulnerable groups from seeking help. But Tory MP Philip Davies said: 'It is the National Health Service, not an international health service and...

“Two blind men followed Him, crying out, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David!’” (Matthew 9:27). The attitude of the heart that Christ honors and accepts is one in which the sinner understands his or her personal unworthiness. That was the attitude of the two blind men as they came to Him. They realized they didn’t deserve Jesus’ help, but they also must have known that “The Lord is gracious and merciful; slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works” (Ps. 145:8–9; cf. Joel 2:13). It seems...

Elizabeth Warren is best known as a liberal firebrand, but the 2020 Democrat was a registered Republican well into her 40s. The Massachusetts senator's affiliation with the GOP until 1996 when she was 47, documented by Pennsylvania and Massachusetts voting records, was dredged up this week by actress and Bernie Sanders fan Susan Sarandon. The film and small-screen star alluded to the Massachusetts senator's prior party allegiance while introducing Sanders in Iowa, despite the Vermont senator's campaign urging surrogates not to criticize fellow presidential candidates. “He is not someone who used to be a Republican,” Sarandon said of the socialist,...

David Ledbetter, a high school senior in Charlotte, North Carolina, used the long lines at Popeye’s this weekend to remind people to vote, going so far as to hand out sample ballots and voter registration forms outside of his local Popeye’s. In an interview with CNN, Ledbetter explained that he saw the chicken sandwich wars as a way to engage people to do their civic duty....

Healthcare is the single biggest issue affecting voters this election cycle. Understandably, the crown jewel of political debate during the campaigns is the aspect of the ACA that protects consumers from limitations associated with pre-existing conditions. The ACA, or Obamacare, provided for those in the individual markets to have the same benefits of those participating in group insurance without fear of their past medical history preventing them from participating. The multiple attempts to repeal or change this hotly debated law has caused the issue of pre-existing condition repeal to come to the forefront of the discussions related to healthcare. https://www.houstoncourant.com/houston-voices/2018/10/29/pre-existing-conditions-fix-them-or-eliminate-them-altogether

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren may have apologized for taking a DNA test to prove she has Native American ancestry, but President Donald Trump could use his "Pocahontas" label for Warren to damage her as he did to defeat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, according to at least one Republican consultant. Warren can say she never used her ethnicity—her DNA test found she is between 1/64th and 1/1,024th Native American and backfired—to land a job. But Trump could use it against her to question her honesty. "If you give Trump a tool to equalize the playing field, which is...

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani rejected the possibility of meeting with President Trump as long as the U.S. sanctioned his country, a day after both leaders appeared to be opening up to possible talks following months of heightened tensions. The Iranian leader’s return to his default position illustrates the pressure he faces at home from hard-line factions opposed to talking to the Trump administration and the challenges of resolving the crisis between the U.S. and Iran. “We seek to resolve the issues and solve the problems in a reasonable way. But we don’t seek photos,” Mr. Rouhani said in a televised...
