While the viral debate over whether or not Popeyes has the best chicken sandwich is still raging online, a high school activist is using the long lines at the fast food chain for good.
David Ledbetter, a high school senior in Charlotte, North Carolina, used the long lines at Popeyes this weekend to remind people to vote, going so far as to hand out sample ballots and voter registration forms outside of his local Popeyes.
In an interview with CNN, Ledbetter explained that he saw the chicken sandwich wars as a way to engage people to do their civic duty.
We were seeing how long the lines were [at Popeyes] and figured we would try to go get individuals to vote, he said. I was just hoping that the individuals would register to vote.
Ledbetter teamed up with Stephanie Sneed, a local attorney whos running for one of Charlottes school boards, to bring the voter engagement project at Popeyes to life.
We had been talking about the great chicken sandwich debate, she said. We came up with the idea to go to Popeyes because of the large number of people waiting in lines.

Let me guess. Oh heck I don’t even have to.
Yep.
Why do I suspect the whole Popeye’s chicken sandwich thing has more to it than it seems?
Desperate to take down Chick-fil-A; likely there is something going on from the left.
Popeye’s has tastier chicken (I like it on the bone), but from a fast food experience perspective, speed, courtesy, cleanliness, and order accuracy all weigh heavily in Chick-Fil-A’s favor.
Do we really want people voting who are stupid enough to wait in line 90 minutes for a damned fast food chicken sandwich?
Sounds like chicken sh!t to me?
1t to me
You need to get out more.
And you don’t have to wear kevlar and come heavily armed to go to a Chick Fil A :)
At least up north they’re usually in lousy neighborhoods
I was on my way to work for a meeting...
Driving thru N. Tulsa...I'd seen this PopEyes..place many times. Thought I need to try it....
Go in...and I'm standing there..making my mind up. I made my mind up...and a counter person is there..talking to some friends..it appeared like.
I keep standing there...for a few minutes..and one of the worker's friends says...you need to help that guy.
The "worker" waits another 45 seconds...and finally takes my order.
The sandwich was nothing to shout out about....but the service was horrible!!~!
Prolly because I am white...and the server was black.
I will never step foot in a PopEye's again...
When we lived in Tulsa I stayed away from North Tulsa.

How is that “good”?
Low information voters who didn’t know that this sandwich has been available for about a year now.

When you see the Popeye’s vs. Chick-fil-A memes that seems to be what’s at work here.
The sandwich from Popeye’s isn’t new but the internet’s fascination with it is.

That’s what a comedian named Chinedu has said:

the service at Popeye’s sucks for black customers as well.
Just as Denny’s late night service can be horrible. for awhile there were reports of “parties” or tables of black customers who were ignored at Denny’s after 2am, trying to order, waiting on food, everyone’s had that s&&&&y service at one point or another. “nothing personal”, some on overnight shift just don’t G.A.F.
I will note that in my town (Chicago), Popeye's takes your order from behind a plexiglas barrier.
My thoughts, exactly.
When I was in the restaurant biz, the newbs got stuck with parties or tables of black customers.

Where did you see that in the article? I looked but
didn’t see the to minute thing.
30 minute, 60 minute, and 75 minute wait times in this article:
and this:
“there were moments of concern when the lone cashier left the counter unattended for 20 minutes to help co-workers assemble orders.”
