  • Geoffrey Rush: Actor wins biggest ever defamation payout in Australia

    05/23/2019 2:30:06 PM PDT · by Red Badger · 14 replies
Actor Geoffrey Rush has been awarded the largest ever defamation payout to a single person in Australia. The Oscar-winner was last month awarded A$2.9m (£1.57m; US$1.99m) after winning the case against Nationwide News, which publishes Australia's Daily Telegraph. The Sydney newspaper had published stories accusing him of behaving inappropriately towards former co-star Eryn Jean Norvill. Judge Michael Wigney found that Ms Norvill was "prone to exaggeration". Mr Rush has sought an injunction to prevent the Telegraph re-publishing accusations at the heart of the case. Nationwide News has appealed against an initial ruling in the case. The accusations detailed in the...

What about if your Black? Don’t worry the politically correct people at Harvard support affirmative action. Prospective Black students couldn’t have possibly come from anything besides the worst school districts with the worst teachers and lived low-rent life with a single-parent at home. Minority students can’t possibly ever be expected to be as smart as their Asian counterparts. They absolutely need those points because expecting them to achieve as much is unfair and discriminatory.

Liberalizing abortion rules from 1969 to 1973 ignited vast long-term social changes in America. This discussion might finally provide a chance to evaluate how Roe v. Wade has changed the U.S. One often misunderstood fact: Legal abortions didn't start with Roe or even with the five states that liberalized abortion laws in 1969 and 1970.

Iran will not surrender to U.S. pressure and will not abandon its goals even if it is bombed, President Hassan Rouhani said on Thursday, stepping up the war of words between the Islamic Republic and the United States. Earlier in the day, Iran’s top military chief said the standoff between Tehran and Washington was a “clash of wills”, warning that any enemy “adventurism” would meet a crushing response, the semi-official Fars news agency reported. […] Addressing a ceremony in commemoration of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, he added: “We need resistance, so our enemies know that if they bomb our land,...

By Mary Fanning and Alan Jones | May 22, 2019 Remember, do not kill a mockingbird. When a whistleblower is singing for America’s protection, we embrace and celebrate him. Inventor and software designer Dennis Montgomery, a CIA/DOD/DHS/NSA/FBI contractor-turned-whistleblower, alerted FBI Director James Comey’s office in 2015 that President Obama’s CIA Director John Brennan and Obama’s Director of National Intelligence James Clapper had turned the super-surveillance system that Montgomery designed for foreign surveillance, known as THE HAMMER, into a domestic surveillance system. Montgomery became alarmed when Obama and his intelligence chiefs Brennan and Clapper turned the super-surveillance system against the American...

President Trump’s leading leftist legal tormentor lacks the legal qualifications to serve as California’s attorney general, according to a lawsuit pending in Golden State courts. The ambulance-chasing radical in question is Xavier Becerra, a Democrat who abandoned the U.S. House of Representatives after 24 years to be sworn in as California’s appointed attorney general on Jan. 24, 2017. Stalwart conservative Eric Early, a Los Angeles attorney who sought the Republican nomination in 2018 in the attorney general race, claims in his lawsuit that state law precludes Becerra from serving because he wasn’t practicing law for anything close to five years...

The catastrophic ratings decline for both CNN and MSNBC was no temporary blip following publication of the Mueller report. Both cable news outlets had heavily promoted the hoax of Russian collusion with the Trump administration, teasing the hopes of Trump-haters for impeachment and prosecution for treason. Now, those disappointed viewers have gone away, and continue to stay away. TV Newser (free registration required) reveals the continuing loss of a substantial portion of the viewership for both cable news networks in the third week of May: CNN experienced its lowest-rated week since November 2015 in the 25-54 demo. Additionally, MSNBC marked...

Mayor Pete Buttigieg revealed his plan Thursday of how to compete with President Donald Trump in the 2020 election. “What we’ve got to learn is how to kind of stiff-arm him, it’s almost sort of a ‘crazy uncle’ management,” he said. Buttigieg commented on his future plans to debate Trump in a conversation with Washington Post reporter Robert Costa. He said that Democrats should correct Trump during debates but not get distracted by his controversial views. ~snip~ Buttigieg accused Trump of faking a disability to avoid getting drafted into the Vietnam war. “I don’t mean to trivialize disability, but I...

As the spygate scandal unraveled early last year, “Stefan Halper” is a name that wouldn’t stop popping up.Having previously been involved in a CIA spying scandal in the 1980s, Halper got another spy gig in the 2016 election in which he attempted to infiltrate the Trump campaign. In a prior article I extensively detailed Halper’s involvement in trying to entrap various Trump campaign team members.Even after the election, Halper pitched himself as an ambassador to China for the Trump team after his presidential victory. In other words, even after Trump’s victory, a spy was nearly embedded within the Trump team. Thanks...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi openly questioned President Donald Trump's fitness to remain in office Thursday, suggesting a family or staff "intervention" for the good of the nation after his dramatic blow-up at a White House meeting with Democrats. No, said Trump's spokeswoman, it's the Democrats who are "insane" if they think he should work on legislation with them when they accuse him of engaging in a cover-up in the Trump-Russia election investigation. Both the Republican president and Democratic leaders dug in a day after Trump stalked out of the Cabinet Room demanding an end to all congressional probes before he...

Israeli researchers raised a glass Wednesday to celebrate a long-brewing project of making beer and mead using yeasts extracted from ancient clay vessels —some over 5,000 years old. Archaeologists and microbiologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority and four Israeli universities teamed up to study yeast colonies found in microscopic pores in pottery fragments. The shards were found at Egyptian, Philistine and Judean archaeological sites in Israel spanning from 3,000 BC to the 4th century BC. The scientists are touting the brews made from "resurrected" yeasts as an important step in experimental archaeology, a field that seeks to reconstruct the past...

His was the first death warrant signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis since he took office in January. Some of them even campaigned for Hillary. He also gave that terrible speech in Cairo that was totally counter to everything Trump has said on foreign policy. He’s one of the worst."
