The truth about Donald Trump is that he's a flip-flopping liberal pretending to be a Republican for his own advantageous purposes - and he also used to be a big fan of the Clintons. And a new Ted Cruz ad points that out using Donald Trump's own words. Video at link.

She's relatable, damn it! Yes, Hillary Clinton is so desperate to prove that she is so chock full of relatability that she completely loses any trace of authenticity as you can see in the comic effect Twitter video she posted below. It's not any one thing but the overall effect of Hillary's over the top vocal enthusiasm combined with the exaggerated gesturing over her supposed delight in relaxing by watching home improvement shows. The result is that Hillary almost seems to be giving Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon competition in parodying herself.

FRANKFORT - Bills that would limit funding for Planned Parenthood and make selling fetal tissue illegal in Kentucky were sent to the Senate floor on Thursday. Senate Bill 7, which would set a priority system to fund state and federal family planning services, and Senate Bill 25, which would make the sale of fetal tissue from an aborted fetus a class C felony, passed the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee on a 9-1 vote. Both bills came in response to controversial undercover videos "that clearly showed that Planned Parenthood abortion clinics were selling aborted fetal parts for...

U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson announced Thursday he had filed a bill to make tuition free and restructure student loans for students at public colleges and universities. Grayson, an Orlando Democrat running for Florida's U.S. Senate seat, modeled his House Resolution 4385, introduced last week, after a bill introduced in the U.S. Senate last year by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is running for president. The would have the U.S. Department of Education award grants to states to allow them to eliminate tuition and other required fees at state colleges and universities. The bill was referred to the House Committee on...

A new video of a teenaged Ted Cruz, posted Saturday on YouTube, shows a lankier and younger version of the future Republican presidential candidate sarcastically talking about his life’s goals - and they're far more ambitious than the mere presidency. "Take over the world, world domination, you know, rule everything. Rich, powerful, that sort of stuff," Cruz says The new clip was posted on YouTube under the name "Young Ted Cruz." The operator of the account told POLITICO the video had been provided by a high school classmate of Cruz's who wished to remain anonymous. The video comes less than...

If Trump wins the Republican nomination, he will defeat Hillary. He doesn’t do things halfway. He means what he says, and he says what he means. Trump understands that making Hillary the issue will get out the Republican vote that McCain and Romney were unable to attract. Here’s what you can expect from Trump in the general election as he asks: Why do Hillary and Bill pretend to be married when they have been separated since January 20, 2001? Does Hillary really think she can fool white suburban married women who want to believe that Hillary and Bill have a...

Things got a little awkward for Hillary Clinton on the rope line in Vinton, Iowa, yesterday, thanks to a plucky Iowan who actually keeps up with current events. It started innocently enough with Hillary shaking hands with supporters, taking selfies and signing autographs at a Vinton skating and recreation center. The fun came to an abrupt end, Politico reports, when she got to a certain Ms. Althea Cole."How do you plan to sidestep the reality that you are sending secure, SAP emails on your private, unsecured server?" Cole asked Clinton, who was at her second event of the day. "I'm very...

Donald Trump and some mainstream Republicans are engaged in a long-distance flirtation. Both sides are coming to the realization that they'll need each other if the billionaire businessman becomes the party's presidential nominee. The GOP establishment is no fonder of Trump than when he first roiled the campaign last summer with his controversial comments about immigrants and women. But with voting beginning in just over a week, his durability atop preference polls has pushed some donors, strategists and party elders to grudgingly accept the prospect of his winning the nomination. "We'd better stop hoping for something else and accept the...

Earlier in the week we discussed the disturbing fact that not even half of “visitors” who come to the United States with a legally obtained visa actually leave when their allotted time is up. At the time I was wondering how many of these visa overstays actually have a warrant issued for them and, even more to the point, how many are actively investigated to see what they’re up to and tap them on the shoulder as Chris Christie once said. If you finished reading that article and found yourself guessing that the numbers might be depressingly low, give...

Back during the 1968 presidential campaign, Air Force General Curtis LeMay, who had been selected by third-party candidate George Wallace as his running mate, gave one of the most disastrous press conferences in US presidential campaign history. He extolled the virtues of nuclear weapons, dismissed the American people's "phobia" about nukes, and said that it wouldn't make much difference to him if he was "killed . . . with a rusty knife" or "killed with a nuclear weapon." Those words pretty much sum up the choice facing Republicans today. Donald Trump vs. Ted Cruz: a corroded blade vs. an atom...

GOP frontrunner Donald Trump argues that Fox News’s Megyn Kelly shouldn’t moderate the upcoming debate on January 28 in Iowa, three days before the Iowa caucus. “Based on @MegynKelly’s conflict of interest and bias she should not be allowed to be a moderator of the next debate,” Trump posted to Twitter on Saturday. Kelly was criticized for being unfair to Trump following the first GOP primary debate. And two days ago, Kelly was charged with unleashing “on Donald Trump and Sarah Palin,” who recently endorsed the GOP frontrunner. “Breaking tonight, a moment with the potential to change the Republican race...

As the Donald Trump phenomenon endures, it's become fashionable to make a certain kind of excuse for the boorishness of his backers, if not The Donald himself. "Don't blame them" is the theme of front-page stories and much-discussed magazine essays. The economy left them behind, the world doesn't work like they were promised it would as young people, and we have to understand. They're angry, and should be.

Politicians use taxpayer money to buy votes. It's the way the system works. Donald Trump is offering more of the same. Not content with simply supporting the ridiculous ethanol boondoggle of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), he wants to actually expand it, in a thoroughly transparent attempt to purchase political support in Iowa. To make sure he got the language of his bribe just right, he read out his proposal from a script provided him by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association. This is every corporate lobbyist's dream: a candidate who not only goes whole hog for your scheme, but will...
  • SciFi and fantasy titan David G. Hartwell passes, aged 74

Influential science fiction author and editor David G. Hartwell has died, aged 74. Hartwell edited thousands of books and was nominated for the Hugo Award 41 times. He spent the last 30-plus years as an editor for Tor Books, whose founder Tom Doherty wrote “no editor was more influential in the shaping of science fiction and fantasy than he.” SciFi co-editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden called Hartwell “our field’s most consequential editor since John W. Campbell.” Given Campbell's status as the driving force behind science fiction's Golden Age, that's high praise indeed.
