Hampton, New Hampshire — Teenagers wheeled around the cafeteria of Hampton Academy, eating pizza and waiting for the main event to begin. Country music blared over the speakers. An older gentleman sat back and read the paper. Staffers worked the room and reporters hunched over their laptops. The crowds were subdued; there wasn’t a protester in sight.

  • The 'Obama is a Muslim' conspiracy theory is still reverberating in the Middle East

**SNIP** One of the most persistent and widespread of these conspiracy theories gets more specific than its American variant: Obama isn't just a Muslim, this theory goes.... he's a Shiite Muslim. This week, as the Obama administration announced that it was lifting sanctions on Iran as a result of a U.S.-led nuclear deal with Tehran reached in July, Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, the head of general security for the emirate of Dubai, suggested that Obama's "Shiite roots" had helped him get elected in a bid to bring the United States and Iran closer. "Mission accomplished," he added.

Wall Street has only recently ended the third-longest bull market in history. But in July, when stocks were still near their 2015 high, the Pew Charitable Trusts reported that state and local pension debt nationally had barely fallen since 2009, despite years of market gains. Now, with markets down more than 12% since summer, new pension debt is piling up... Absent some startling development — like an even bigger runaway bull market, which few market watchers anticipate — the crisis will worsen. At the root of the problem is a change in the financial structure of public pension funds... Another...

Robert Reich January 20 at 11:40am 5 reasons Ted Cruz is even more dangerous than Donald Trump. 1. He's more fanatical. Trump is a bully and bigot but doesn't hew to any sharp ideological line. Cruz is a fierce ideologue: He denies the existence of man-made climate change, rejects same-sex marriage, wants to abolish the Internal Revenue Service, believes the 2nd amendment guarantees everyone a right to guns, doesn't believe in a constitutional divide between church and state, favors the death penalty, opposes international agreements, embraces a confrontational foreign policy, rejects immigration reform, demands the repeal of "every blessed word...

On the campaign trail ahead of the 2012 New Hampshire primary, Mitt Romney didn't always come across as the most freewheeling candidate for president. At event after event around the Granite State, the former Massachusetts governor and business executive didn't waver in his focus on President Obama and the pace of the economic recovery. Romney might not have been as wooden as caricatures of him suggested, but he wasn't lighting up the trail as a charismatic leader. He had traded the neckties of his 2008 bid for jeans and rolled-up sleeves, but he still seemed pretty buttoned down. As a...

The Republican National Committee announced late Thursday that the venerable conservative magazine National Review had been dropped as a debate sponsor after it published an issue devoted to why voters should reject Donald Trump's presidential campaign. RNC spokesman Sean Spicer confirmed to Buzzfeed News that the magazine had been dropped as a sponsor of the Feb. 25 debate in Houston, saying "a debate moderator can't have a predisposition." "We expected this was coming," National Review publisher Jack Fowler wrote in a blog post early Friday, calling the RNC move a "small price to pay for speaking the truth about The...

Three new Iowa polls were released on Thursday, and the polls show that real estate mogul Donald Trump has the edge over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.). A CNN/ORC poll shows Trump with a double-digit lead over Cruz: However, this does not necessarily guarantee a win for Trump:***** Phil Kerpen ✔ @kerpen Note this has always been Trump's best Iowa poll and Cruz has GAINED on him since last month. 3:14 PM - 21 Jan 2016 ****** This is accurate, as the previous CNN/ORC poll in Iowa had Trump at 33 percent and Cruz at 20 percent. Despite the media's concerted effort to declare emphatically that Barack Obama is a devout, practicing Christian, many still believe that behind closed doors Obama is actually a Muslim, or at least more sympathetic to Muslims than Christians. To the great disappointment of those who'd like to blame all Obama conspiracy theories on the "bitter clingers," claims that "Obama is a Muslim" are perhaps most persistent among a surprising group: Muslims in the Middle East. A 2015 CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll asked Americans if they knew what Obama's religion was. "Is he Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon, Muslim, something else, or not...
  • Fast & Furious Guns Found in El Chapo Compound as Obama Scandal Cover-Up Loses in Federal Court

A federal judge handed the Obama Administration yet another loss yesterday in the congressional lawsuit to get the truth behind the Fast and Furious fiasco that permitted the illegal sales of guns in order to track the sellers and purchasers. Fast and Furious is yet another example of the Obama Administration’s many scandals stemming from unconstitutional and lawless Executive overreach. Yet this scandal cost lives, and the Obama Administration has been in cover-up mode for years to hide the truth about the reckless gunrunning Operation Fast and Furious. Now a federal court is forcing the Obama Administration to turn over...

Donald Trump is thumping Ted Cruz by double digits in a new Iowa poll, while Bernie Sanders has grabbed a significant lead from Hillary Clinton among Democrats likely to caucus in the state. Trump, who has been neck-and-neck with Cruz in recent Iowa GOP surveys, now leads the Texas senator 37 percent to 26 percent, with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at with 14 percent, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Thursday. Republican Ben Carson dropped to just 6 percent.

Donald Johanos and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Bill Sullivan 3 weeks ago (edited) The Bizet Symphony in C has a very interesting history. It was written in 1855, but not played until 1937. Bizet composed the symphony as a student work while he was at the Conservatoire de Paris. He studied under Charles Gounod. Gounod had composed his Symphony in D. Bizet's Symphony in C has many elements that are are taken directly from the Gounod composition. If you listen to both works you will hear the shared elements. Apparently, Bizet never thought his composition would be played in concert....
