  • Ohio Fugitive on Lam Since 1959 Caught in Florida

Authorities in Florida say a ruse to get a man's fingerprints led to his arrest as a convicted killer who escaped an Ohio prison farm and disappeared for most of six decades. Brevard County deputies say investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service in Ohio sought help to check out the man while chasing leads about Frank Freshwaters, an Akron man who escaped in 1959. Major Tod Goodyear says they created a ruse to get the man to sign papers, then matched the fingerprints to those from the decades-old arrest. Goodyear says they watched the man for a week, then confronted...

A leading commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guards has claimed his country's ultimate aim is to turn the United States into "an Islamic Republic," and rejected any possibility of a thawing in relations between Tehran and "The Great Satan." An undated video released by the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran, an Iranian opposition group, shows Commander Hassan Abbasi - who is also a member of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei's inner circle - making the comments during an address, in which he lashed out at unnamed Iranian officials for expressing hope that a nuclear deal with the US could open the door...

by David French The following 4 truths from the April 2015 issue of the Conservative publication Imprimis offers some encouragement for traditional Conservatives. The following 4 truths are developed in the article. "The dust is clearing from the Twitter and Facebook battlefields, the people of Indiana are out from under the white-hot glare of the national media, and both sides are taking stock. Who won the Battle of Indiana? Who lost? What’s next for religious liberty in America? While conservative pessimists looked at Indiana, watched its politicians immediately compromise, and saw defeat, a closer look shows something else: a cultural...

With five Republicans already declared to be in the race for the presidential nomination, Rep. Greg Heartsill has already chosen a candidate. Heartsill is serving on Sen. Ted Cruz's Iowa leadership team. "I admire him," Heartsill said is the reason he chose to join Cruz's camp, so early in the caucus campaign. He described Cruz as a courages conservative who "talks the conservative talk and walks the conservative walk." Heartsill is serving the Cruz campaign strictly as a volunteer. House ethics rules would allow him to be a paid consultant, but he does not want that role. "I'm working for...

A Florida man is suing a hospital after his amputated leg was found in the trash. According to the Miami Herald, the Key Largo man went to Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables to have his leg amputated below his knee. The hospital then threw the leg away instead of incinerating it, which is the normal practice. The man found out about the incident when homicide detectives knocked on his door and asked him why his leg was found at a waste management facility with the man's name tag still attached. Hospital officials have not explained how the mistake was made....

A new poll released Monday indicated that Americans believe race relations are at their worst in more than two decades. The CBS News/New York Times poll said 61 percent of Americans characterize race relations in the U.S. as “bad,” including a majority of white and black respondents. The figure is the highest since 1992. A total of 79 percent of African-Americans believe police are more likely to use deadly force against a black person than against a white person, while 53 percent of whites believe race does not play a role, the survey said.... ....Most respondents – 64 percent of...

Is this the face of Jesus as a boy? Italian police reverse the ageing process on image taken from the Turin Shroud to create photo-fit of Christ as a young child This is the face of Jesus Christ as a child – according to Italian police. Detectives used computer forensic techniques that have helped to catch mafia bosses to generate the image. First, they created a photo-fit picture from the facial image in the Turin Shroud, which many believe to be that of Jesus. They then used a computer program to reverse the ageing process by reducing the jaw size,...

The Pentagon has announced that it is spending approximately $700million to refurbish the Cheyenne Mountain Complex and make it less vulnerable to a massive electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack. This comes just weeks after it was announce announced that the complex, former home of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), will once again be home to the most advanced tracking and communications equipment in the U.S. military. An EMP attack consists of a deliberate burst of energy that could disrupt the electrical grid across the United States and block NORAD from defending the nation, events which the organization is looking for...

  • Americans want the government to "redistribute wealth by heavy taxes on the rich"

Americans are eager to see the government "spread the wealth around" through heavy taxes on rich people. This, according to Gallup, is a relatively new phenomenon, with a clear preference for soaking the rich really only emerging in the past four or five years. On a different polling measure, Gallup finds that at least since the mid-1980s a large majority of Americans have expressed a preference for a flatter distribution of income. But that's something that could, at least hypothetically, be achieved in a whole variety of ways. Taxing the rich in order to redistribute income to the working class...

....While Geller claims to stand for American values, much of what she does undermines our values.... ...this isn't only about free speech...It's also about how some people use freedom of speech to subvert other American values. I am Muslim, and after attacks like these, folks always ask, "Do you condemn terrorism?" Or they throw up their hands and say, "Where are the Muslims!" Well, to be blunt: Not at the event. In fact, every major mosque in the Garland, Texas, area not only shrugged off the anti-Islam event happening in their backyard... It appears from early reports that the suspects...

NATO will deploy a command post to Romania for the first time when it launches Trident Joust 2015, an exercise to test the alliance’s crisis-response capabilities as it beefs up its presence in eastern Europe. NATO’s Naples-based Joint Force Command will lead the 12-day exercise, which kicks off in June. The alliance’s emphasis on speed and mobility comes at a time of increased concern about Russia’s intervention in Ukraine. “This deployment will test the full operational capability of my staff, by shifting command and control between my headquarters in Naples (Italy) and the forward deployed elements in Cincu, (Romania),” Adm....

Tusks or no tusks, wild pigs can be dangerous animals. Hunting them can be riskier than many sportsmen bargain for, and trying to wrestle one can be downright foolhardy. This trapper in East Texas found himself a bit out of his element as he tried to wrangle a large sow into a cage. Notice how the pig repeatedly went after his legs. Both male and female hogs use tusks for defense, and if this one had a set, no doubt it would have tried to gore the man. Thankfully, though, the trapper survived the event with little more than possibly...

The New York Times, along with all other print-based city newspapers, is slowly going bankrupt. Specifically, Craigslist is killing them. Generally, the Web is killing them. They are all doomed. There are no exceptions. They are like mastodons caught in the tar pit. Some of them are sinking faster than others, but all of them are sinking. What is killing them is the loss of advertising revenue in print editions. That is where the money is. That is where the money has always been. To make profits, they have to sell ad space on large pieces of paper — newsprint....

“You get all these rural Mexicans who hate the government, hate taxes, love guns, and love the liberty to get as drunk as they want. Perfect Republicans. But the Republicans will never know that,” says Gustavo Arellano, author of the OC Weekly's "¡Ask a Mexican!" column and author of the book Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America. “So there is that opening for libertarianism to get more Latinos that way.”Calls for restricting Latino immigration in the United States has damaged the Republican brand among the Hispanic electorate, says Arellano. Since George W. Bush won over 40 percent of the...

Hillary Clinton is looking to unload some more baggage from her campaign van today. The presumptive Democratic nominee campaigns in Nevada where her campaign told several news outlets that she will embrace “a full and equal path to citizenship” for illegal immigrants. In 2008, Clinton wasn’t even a supporter of the mainstream Democratic position of allowing illegal immigrants to have driver’s licenses. Now she is ready to go for a full amnesty. USA Today reports that Clinton is embracing President Obama’s immigration policy and campaign style today: “She will chat with Rancho High School students who are DREAMers, the term...

Reading to children at bedtime: ABC questions value of time-honoured practiceTHE ABC has questioned whether parents should read to their children before bedtime, claiming it could give your kids an “unfair advantage” over less fortunate children. “Is having a loving family an unfair advantage?” asks a story on the ABC’s website. “Should parents snuggling up for one last story before lights out be even a little concerned about the advantage they might be conferring?” The story was followed by a broadcast on the ABC’s Radio National that also tackled the apparently divisive issue of bedtime reading. “Evidence shows that the...

China has employed an unusual method in trying to crack down on Muslim violence and attacks by Uyghurs in the western Xinjiang region—in a new notice, it has ordered Muslim merchants to sell alcohol prominently to “weaken” Islam, which forbids the consumption of alcohol. In the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region separatist Sunni Muslim Uyghur factions have conducted numerous attacks, including those with guns and explosives. China has cracked down in response and is trying to have them blacklisted as terrorists, although much of the international community has denounced the Chinese actions accusing the state of repression. In its latest move,...
