Americans want the government to "redistribute wealth by heavy taxes on the rich"
Vox ^ | MAY 5, 2015 | Matthew Yglesias

Americans are eager to see the government "spread the wealth around" through heavy taxes on rich people. This, according to Gallup, is a relatively new phenomenon, with a clear preference for soaking the rich really only emerging in the past four or five years.

On a different polling measure, Gallup finds that at least since the mid-1980s a large majority of Americans have expressed a preference for a flatter distribution of income. But that's something that could, at least hypothetically, be achieved in a whole variety of ways. Taxing the rich in order to redistribute income to the working class is a much more specific idea and, naturally, a more contentious one.

Not surprisingly, Republicans and rich people are not particularly excited about this idea, while Democrats and the poor love it. But in some ways the most interesting demographic sub-sample is the age one. Respondents ages 18 to 34 are supportive of re-distributive taxation by a 59-38 margin, while those over 55 are much more skeptical — 47 percent say tax the rich, and 50 percent disagree. In other words, the age stratification of American politics isn't just about gay marriage or marijuana; it cuts to the core economic policy divides in Washington and state capitals around the country...

Most Americans expect to see this type of Marxist-Socialist theft in third world counties like Venenzuela, Zimbabwe, or even some of the European countries. But now the United States of America is now moving down the road to socialist ruin.

The Bible foretells of a day when theft and and false witness will be world-wide. Everyone who supports and partakes of this codified theft will be cursed. Everyone who claims to be a Christian and supports this thievery will be cursed by God...

Zechariah 5:1 Then I turned , and lifted up mine eyes, and looked , and behold a flying roll. 2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered , I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits. 3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it. 4 I will bring it forth , saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

I don’t think so. True Americans would never want sure a thing. The title should read “PARASITES want the government to ‘redistribute wealth by heavy taxes on the rich’”.

Just wait until these dumbschidts find out that 'rich' is anyone making more than $35K / year. It'll be comical: "But I didn't think they meant me!"

Ezra Klein’s website, eh? I wouldn’t send any traffic his way. Gallup itself puts a different perspective on the results.

What do the middle class think? After all they're the ones who will ultimately get screwed in this deal.

BTW we all know democrats are never rich.

Then what incentive is there to work hard and become rich if the government is just going to take it all away?

that’s it- ask these “most Americans” to define “rich”

they don’t realize people with any job, a home, medical insurance, a savings account and even intact families are increasingly resented and the envious are looking for ways to tear them down

Every time I hear “The Rich”, I remember the Clinton’s talking about tax increases only on the rich. In fact those tax increases dipped deeply into the $30,000 dollar range, and possibly even into the upper $20,000 dollar range.

This is code for “TAX EVERYONE MORE”.

The top income levels pay out a massive amount of taxes now, even though they represent a relatively small percentage of the populace.

I defend the rich. I understand what the Leftist’s are saying when they say tax the rich.

Exactly. And who is going to bother to put up with the headaches of managing a business and other people, if it’s not going to pay off?

Look for more unemployed people.

This ruined my day. If you follow the year-by-year graph lines on the question, the trend is undeniable. Years of hammering away on “inequality” are beginning to turn the issue for the Left.

The numbers have flipped on their head since the 90’s (which explains Hillary’s furious backflipping on her husband’s economic policies). And the extremely high percentage of apparent Socialists amongst the Millenials gives me little hope for our future.

I think we are an election away...two tops....from becoming France.

You think the GOP is going to reads this and then go out and boldly run on Reagan Conservatism? I don’t.

Yes, you are correct! America has reached De-Tocqueville’s tipping point...

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

In short: The takers now outnumber (and so can outvote) the makers. And so, America’s decline has begun in earnest. Now begins the rejoicing of those around the world who have so long envied and resented our freedom and success.

"Those rich people get all their money from us so tax them more and give us back some!"

"Sure, uh... if they get all their money from you where are they going to get the money to pay the new taxes?"
"Duh..."

It's incredible how stupid the media can make people.

Fine. They can start with the Hollyweird celeb millionaires and billionaires who I'm sure will be more than happy to split up their vast wealth to accommodate the struggling parasites ..uh..poor. There are also plenty of rap multi-millionaires. They'll be happy as well to share their loot with the teeming masses. (snicker)

Yep. Driving off massive amounts of manufacturing wasn’t good enough. Now let’s drive capital off as well.
