Here is video from this morning where guest Roger Stone told Fox News' Megyn Kelly that punishment for children skipping school tomorrow in Broward County, Florida because of President Obama's "School Speech" will be to have to "listen to a speech by Vice-President Joe Biden." On a serious note, Kelly did say someone called a school and was told if their child skipped the speech, there would be a punishment of some kind. NOTE: The other Fox host said listening to a Biden Speech might violate the 8th Amendment - meaning the prohibition against "cruel and unusual punishment." (VIDEO)

A cab driver shot and killed a would-be robber around 10 p.m. Sunday at Carowinds Boulevard and South Tryon Street, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police said. The cab had been dispatched to the Colonial Village apartments at the intersection where he picked up a fare, said Capt. Allan Rutledge, of the Steele Creek Division of Charlotte Mecklenburg Police. The cab driver told authorities that the man he picked up pulled a gun, at which point the driver pulled his own handgun and shot and killed the man, Rutledge said. The driver then called 911. Two handguns were found at the scene and...

This Labor Day brings word of a new Gallup poll showing that American public support for labor unions has taken a sharp dive in the last year and is at its lowest point since Gallup began polling in 1936. In response to the question, "Do you approve or disapprove of labor unions?" just 48 percent of respondents said they approve, while 45 percent said they disapprove. That's a steep fall from August 2008, when the numbers were 59 percent approve, 31 percent disapprove, and it's the first time approval of unions has ever fallen below 50 percent. Before this year,...

Henry Hazlitt once said that good ideas have to be relearned every generation. Among the intellectuals of our time, capitalism is wildly unpopular. This in spite of the fact that it is the only social system that has permitted prosperity and flourishing. Why they continue to oppose the free market in the face of such evidence is a matter of debate. Some have argued that intellectuals dislike capitalism because they feel it doesn't offer them just rewards for their labors. Indeed, academic books do not sell particularly well, and it is easy for the dedicated scholar to feel a degree...

Many people's first vehicle costs peanuts, but a team of Northern Ireland researchers have helped take that a step further by building a racing car using cashew nut shells. The Formula Three vehicle, which is world's first sustainable racing car, has been constructed using sustainable and recycled products - including hemp, soybean oil, potato starch and recycled bottles. It runs on bio-diesel and has a top speed of 130mph.

A robbery gone wrong ended when the victim upped the ante on the would-be robber by pulling a sword. Police say that the suspect and the victim, who are believed to have been friends, went to a check cashing store near the victim's house on Thursday. The two men in their thirties, according to police, returned to the victim's home, where the suspect hit the victim in the shoulder with a bat in an attempt to rob him. Little did he know he was dealing with an apparent ninja who keeps swords just laying around the house. After being hit...

With Glenn Beck getting credit for Van Jones resigning, Keith Olbermann is now asking Daily Kos readers to find out anything they can about the Fox host and others associated with him. Tuesday we will expand this to the television audience and have a dedicated email address to accept leads, tips, contacts, on Beck, his radio producer [Stu] Burguiere, and the chief of his tv enablers, [Roger] Ailes (even though Ailes' power was desperately undercut when he failed to pull off his phony "truce" push). Olbermann said this action will help "save this nation from the Oligarhy of The Stupid."...

In November 2002, Time Magazine asked whether Democratic misbehavior at Paul Wellstone's funeral cost the party a senatorial seat when Norm Coleman beat Walter Mondale in a tight race in Minnesota. At the time, there was polling evidence that the service was a political disaster that cost the Democrats nationally as well. While there was no repeat of such boorish behavior at Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral, the Democrats are shamelessly attempting to exploit his death by pushing "Teddy Care." CNN reported, perhaps hopefully, that Kennedy's death might bring about the changes in health care that he was unable to achieve...

The resignation of White House environmental adviser Van Jones has revealed a lapse in the administration's vetting procedures that, nearly eight months into his tenure, delivered President Obama with an unwelcome distraction as he begins an important week on behalf of his health-care reform initiative. Jones's resignation late Saturday came as calls for his ouster increased from Republican leaders, who have been critical of past statements and associations that have also taken the White House by surprise. His departure as a top adviser to the White House Council on Environmental Quality leaves Obama's push to create "green" jobs, which he...

There is a serious threat against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It has a name. The name is Andrew Price. He belongs to an evangelistic group that goes about teaching against all other churches. This group has a website and on this website you can click on a myriad of different religions and read what this church teaches against any specific religion. The name of the online church is being withheld because this article will not be used as a forum for that church. Several different ministers, preachers, pastors,in other words, paid clergy for that church...

The President: Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today? I’m here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I’m glad you all could join us today.

I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it’s your first day in a new school, so it’s understandable if you’re a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you’re in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could’ve stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.

I got an email from a nice producer requesting I appear on CNN at 12:30pm EST to discuss Paul Krugman's latest op-ed, The Town Hall Mob. Unfortunately because of distance, it wasn't possible, but she'll keep me in mind for future rebuttals. But while we're on the topic, let's look at Krugman's latest take on the "town hall mob"... Some commentators have tried to play down the mob aspect of these scenes, likening the campaign against health reform to the campaign against Social Security privatization back in 2005. But there’s no comparison. I’ve gone through many news reports from 2005,...

School districts are feeling the backlash of a nationwide address to schools by President Barack Obama on Tuesday. Officials say the speech stresses the importance of “persisting and succeeding in school.” The address from the president, purportedly challenging students to “work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning,” sounds harmless, but events surrounding the address – whether intended or not – have turned a message to children into a means to further divide the country and weaken political opponents. A controversy may have been avoided if the White House had released a transcript of the president's address...

September 04, 2009, 0:00 p.m. Not So FastA response to Andy McCarthy on the democracy project. By Mark R. Levin It is quite a challenge to disagree with my brother Andy McCarthy. Both the substance and length of his arguments are compelling. But let me address a few of the points in his excellent piece today. The decision to invade Iraq was not motivated exclusively or even primarily by the democracy project. Indeed, the Bush administration’s case to the international community, presented over a period of months, was mostly based on national- and international-security arguments. The arguments made to the United...

A deeper look at the facts contained in chain letters reveals hyperbole, exaggerations and misstatements by opponents. The e-mail that popped into my inbox started with an insult and included an attachment full of "facts." After calling me a "crybaby" for writing a sympathetic story about Mexican immigrants, the sender insisted I read a series of statistics on the effects of illegal immigration on Los Angeles and California. Hospitals, law enforcement and other public services, he said, are being overwhelmed. At first, because of the sender's tone, I ignored the attachment. Then it arrived again, this time forwarded by a friendly...

Many of us join Secretary Gates in condemning the Associated Press for its heartless and selfish decision to turn its back on the wishes of a grieving family in order to exploit the tragic death of a true American hero. Lance Corporal Joshua 'Bernie' Bernard was a selfless young American who sacrificed everything for our freedom.

New information has surfaced regarding euthanization of elderly patients at a New Orleans hospital during Hurricane Katrina. A doctor has admitted administering a lethal dose of morphine to one patient knowing that it would kill her. "There's no question I hastened her demise," Dr. Ewing Cook told an independent investigation organization. "I gave her medicine so I could get rid of her faster, get the nurses off the [hospital] floor." The patient, Jannie Burgess, 79, was suffering from uterine cancer and kidney failure. "To me, it was a no-brainer -- and to this day I don't feel bad about...
