Republicans are looking for a leader. Go to any right-leaning gathering, and at some point the conversation will turn to the party’s potential presidential nominee in 2012. Republicans were less consumed by that question in 1993, the first year of the last Democratic presidency. Even when Republicans aren’t talking about the 2012 race, they are debating who speaks for the party — sometimes explicitly, as when Rush Limbaugh and Michael Steele feuded this spring. Or they are wondering who will form the next generation of Republican leaders: Eric Cantor? Paul Ryan? The present-day question can be answered simply: The Republican...

CORPUS CHRISTI — Curiosity brought Eddie Yaklin and his friends to an oil rig 50 miles off his normal route for an evening of fishing, but what they brought back with them is an experience Yaklin likely will never forget. Yaklin was traveling from Louisiana back to Texas on the Affordable Fantasy, a luxury yacht. He spotted an oil rig on the boat’s GPS system, about 50 miles from his planned trip and after discussing it with friends, at about 5:30 p.m. they decided to circle the rig and fish. “We had circled the rig once and then out of...

Developers of new web browsing software that flags questionable claims or outright lies on the web hope it will become a valuable tool to deal with the misinformation that litters the Internet. But observers say Dispute Finder, an experimental browser extension developed by Intel, and the many websites that already aim to debunk online rumours and falsehoods face an enormous task. It isn't as easy as simply telling someone they're wrong. Once installed, Dispute Finder highlights in red what it determines are disputed claims on websites, then offers users links to alternative points of view and evidence to back them...

Old Man Winter doesn’t want to give up his frigid hold just yet, but his hold will mostly be in the middle of the country. According to the 2010 Farmers’ Almanac, this winter will see more days of shivery conditions: a winter during which temperatures will average below normal for about three-quarters of the nation. A large area of numbingly cold temperatures will predominate from roughly east of the Continental Divide to west of the Appalachians (see map). The coldest temperatures will be over the northern Great Lakes and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. But acting almost like the bread...

Sarah Palin’s political action committee, facing scrutiny from the Federal Election Commission, revealed Monday that it had recently made contributions to a raft of mostly conservative Republicans, including Reps. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell and Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Orrin Hatch of Utah. Those contributions, some of which were disclosed in a Friday FEC report, combined with earlier donations to the reelection campaigns of Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, brought Palin’s committee, Sarah PAC, to the five-candidate contribution minimum necessary for it to...

The Republican National Committee has released a massive, 200-point "I told you so" on President Obama's 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, otherwise known as the "stimulus package." The RNC calls the report "200 Days, 200 Claims," and moves point-by-point through Democrats' pledges and promises in promoting the stimulus package. Quoting Obama, Vice President Biden and Democrats from each region of the country separately, the report cites what advocates of the stimulus package said would happen upon its passage, then lists stats and quotes the GOP claims present the "reality" of what actually happened. "It is appropriate on the 200th...

On Aug. 26, Women's Equality Day, advocates for ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), called on President Barack Obama and members of the U.S. Senate to take action. The U.S. is one of very few countries -- and the only democracy -- that has not ratified the "women's treaty" since its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979. As a supposed world leader in human rights, the U.S.'s failure to have ratified this important treaty over the last 30 years belies that leadership claim. Three decades of foot-dragging and...

Publisher expects its author to settle scores, take no prisoners, tell all WASHINGTON - Dick Cheney is one of the most remarkable figures in American political history. There, I said it. Objectively speaking, no matter your ideology, take a step back. One can only marvel at the former vice president’s moxie, mettle and maneuverability over a storied 40-year career. Forget that the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., authored some 300 or so laws, most of which undoubtedly touched every American — Dick Cheney wrote the book on how to work the system to one’s personal advantage.

It could have, should have and indeed was predicted that the death of Senator Kennedy would be exploited by the left for political gains in the health care debate. Little did we know that they would exploit his own grandson to exploit his own death. The indecency of the left truly knows no bounds, ladies and gentlemen. I give you the poor lad too young to know any better: *-*Video available at website*-* Yes, that really happened. Gateway Pundit and Hot Air are following the story closely with details of the left saying it's ok to pray for nationalized medicine...

Ezzedine, from the town of Maaroub near the southern port city of Tyre, is the director of the Hizbullah-owned Dar Al-Hadi Publishing House, named in honor of Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s son Hadi, who was killed by Israeli soldiers in a gun battle in 1997.
