Although we are anticipating another great depression, we want to emphasise that we are NOT anticipating a replay of the 1930s. We are anticipating a drawn-out period of economic contraction, but the details will almost certainly differ markedly from previous depressions.

Do you watch the direction that America is being taken in and feel powerless to stop it? Do you believe that your voice isn’t loud enough to be heard above the noise anymore? Do you read the headlines everyday and feel an empty pit in your stomach…as if you’re completely alone? If so, then you’ve fallen for the Wizard of Oz lie. While the voices you hear in the distance may sound intimidating, as if they surround us from all sides—the reality is very different. Once you pull the curtain away you realize that there are only a few people...

Barack Obama sure likes his symbolism. Who can ever forget the hopeful rising sun coming up over a horizon of stripes, suggesting a new day of change coming? Or the Obama for President seal, complete with a spread-eagled eagle, heart filled with the hope of Obama's first seal? And certainly not the self-adulatory hubris of the Office of the President Elect. Today President Obama unleashed the latest creation of his egomaniacal mind, a stamp that will forever glorify (and transform, I'm sure) all the wasteful projects stemming from his porkulus spending bill, ARRA. President Obama announced today that his administration...

Nolan Finley has a very brave piece in the Detroit News today on the rampant racism on the Detroit City Council. He calls out black nationalism in the corrupted city government and ponders what would happen if roles were reversed. Attorney General Eric Holder, we won’t hold our breath waiting for your comment.

Its only been five weeks, but the President has made great strides to prove what many in the conservative community were warning the Jewish voters, Obama will not be their side when it comes to "Jewish Issues."......I have focused on the "foreign policy" decisions which should be disturbing to the Jewish community, my friend Ed Lasky takes a look at some of the domestic policy reasons why Obama's Jewish voters may be disappointed with their vote

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- General Electric Co. is reading the tea leaves of the troubled global economy and has found a new partner to help it weather the storm: government. In the new economy, the interaction between government and business will be changed forever, with government as a stronger regulator, an industry policy champion, a financier and key partner, GE (GE 7.01, -0.59, -7.8%) Chief Executive Jeff Immelt wrote in a letter to shareholders, published late Monday. ...Another driver is infrastructure work tied to Obama's stimulus package, which seeks to rebuild highways, water systems, electrical grids and make government buildings...

The graphic below David Gregory’s speaks of “despair over rescue efforts.” There’s evidence this morning that the hopelessness has reached the MSM–and that it is largely directed at the president himself. Earlier, I noted how Jim Cramer, appearing on Today, accused President Obama of promoting a “radical agenda” that is “the greatest wealth destruction I’ve seen by a president.” Over on Good Morning America, venerable Wall Street hand Art Cashin, chatting with Chris Cuomo, similarly pointed a finger in the White House’s direction. CHRIS CUOMO: You look at this situation, and you point a finger at the government. Their inability...

Damn, we missed the Concorde's 40th Anniversary yesterday. I love this amazing view of its cockpit. Looks like the cockpit in a military plane or spaceship rather than one in a passenger airliner. [Fast Company]

At the top of the 12PM EST hour of MSNBC news coverage on Tuesday, anchor David Shuster spoke with Washington Post reporter Keith Richburg about the recent divide between Rush Limbaugh and RNC Chair Michael Steele: "Following the latest Republican Party civil war. A complete about-face by Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, after calling Rush Limbaugh's show 'ugly' and 'incendiary.' Steele's now apologized in the face of a withering attack from the radio host." Richburg later observed: "You know, it's fascinating. It's like the circular firing squad. I mean, maybe this is what Rush had in mind when he...

Nonprofit leaders are reeling from the recent news that President Barack Obama's proposed budget would limit tax deductions on charitable contributions from wealthy Americans. But now the philanthropic world has something else to worry about. Today the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP), a research and advocacy group, will release a report offering "benchmarks to assess foundation performance." Its real aim is to push philanthropic organizations into ignoring donor intent and instead giving grants based on political considerations. The committee is part of a rising tide of politicians and activists who are working to change the face of American philanthropy...

I am trying to capture the spirit of bipartisanship as practiced by the Democratic Party over the last eight years.

Thus, I have chosen as my lead, the proposition: Obama lied; the economy died. Obviously, I am borrowing this from the Democratic Party theme of 2003-08: "Bush lied, people died." There are, of course, two differences between the two slogans.

General Motors Corp (GM.N)reported a bigger-than-expected 53 percent drop in February U.S. sales on Tuesday and announced a steep reduction in targeted second-quarter production compared with a year ago. GM said it planned to produce 550,000 vehicles in North America in the second quarter, down by a third from 834,000 vehicles a year earlier. GM, which has requested up to $30 billion of government loans to survive the industry downturn, said it estimated that overall U.S. light vehicle sales for the month of February fell to near 8.9 million units on an annualized basis. That would represent the worst monthly...

"One of the most far-reaching consequences of the General Education Board's political philosophy was achieved with a mere six million dollar grant to Columbia University in 1917, to set up the "progressive" Lincoln School . >From this school descended the national network of progressive educators and social scientists, whose pernicious influence closely paralleled the goals of the Communist Party, another favorite recipient of the Rockefeller millions . From its outset, the Lincoln School was described frankly as a revolutionary school for the primary and secondary schools of the entire United States . It immediately discarded all theories of education which...

Buried deep inside this long and wonkish profile of Newt Gingrich in Sunday's New York Times, was this little nugget that, I suspect, went largely unnoticed: At a moment when the role of religious fundamentalism in the party is a central question for reformers, Gingrich, rather than making any kind of case for a new enlightenment, has in fact gone to great lengths to placate Christian conservatives. The family-values crowd has never completely embraced Newt, probably because he has been married three times, most recently to a former Hill staff member, Callista Bisek. In 2006, though, Gingrich wrote a book...

Conservative mega-host Rush Limbaugh disavows descriptions that he is running the GOP -- and Republicans generally laugh off the idea that a radio jockey is telling them what to do -- but efforts by Democrats to cast the talkmeister as the man in charge may be starting to stick. "It seems like Rush Limbaugh is the kind of he-who-must be-obeyed these days in the Republican Party," Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine told FOX News on Tuesday.

Today Obama said not to worry about the market: ...he is not intently focused on the “day-to-day gyrations of the stock market,” comparing the downward roller-coaster on Wall Street to the fickle nature of political polls. “You know, it bobs up and down day to day,” Mr. Obama said. “And if you spend all your time worrying about that, then you’re probably going to get the long-term strategy wrong.”.. However... October 1st, 2008 was a different story: On Monday, over the course of a few hours, the failure to pass the economic rescue plan in the House led to the...

CONVENT STATION - Medical research has been moving at such a lightening pace, it almost doesn't seem far off that doctors in the future might tell many of their seriously ill patients, "Take two stem cells and call me in the morning." That joke, taken from a political cartoon, points to the fact that the rapidly developing field of stem cell research is growing at a breakneck pace, giving hope of cures to countless patients suffering from diseases such as brain cancer and heart disease and conditions such as spinal cord injury.About these medical developments, the Catholic Church asks a...
