Nolan Finley has a very brave piece in the Detroit News today on the rampant racism on the Detroit City Council.

He calls out black nationalism in the corrupted city government and ponders what would happen if roles were reversed.

Attorney General Eric Holder, we won’t hold our breath waiting for your comment.

We can't post from The Detroit News here, but Michelle quotes and links to it in her piece.

I was born and raised in Detroit....cannot tell you how bad it has gotten there. Entire neighborhoods are burned out. Others have most homes with people living behind bars on their doors and windows.

In 2000, my mother who lived in the eight mile/Kelly area near Eastland Mall was attacked in a supermarket parking lot..luckily, she was not badly hurt and only her purse was stolen. The family moved her 170 miles away. She’s safe now. A member of the Detroit police department told me to get her out of town before she’s hurt.

The city government is completely corrupt. From the Mayor on down EVERYONE is on the take. In order to get anything done you have to pay someone off.

Detroit has become a third world city. Why is nobody in the media reporting this?

Nolan Finley. Starting to like this guy. He wrote a pretty good piece on the "Fairness Doctrine" recently. Nice to see some conservative-like viewpoints in the print media from time to time...

It’s sickening, but true. The accusation of racism is a one way street. It’s sad too when you consider that living in America is the best deal by far for an African-American. Most people do better in the U.S. than the African-American, but none live more comfortably than the African-American. Compare the Irish-American, he can go back to Ireland and live fairly close to the U.S. in living standards, and some countries are at least as much on par as Ireland. But consider the African-American, is he really going to chose to go to Zimbabwe with it’s 35 yr life expectancy and widespread starvation and unimaginable cruelty?

Sounds like Nolan Finley isn’t as much a coward as Eric Holder when it comes to discussing race.

I'm not a big fan of the Weekly Standard, but this is one of the best articles I've ever seen on the subject of Detroit's decline . . .

Frankly, I'm loving it. You did the right thing, kemosabe, and give yourself another pat on the back.

Why shouldn't Con-yours be permitted to drive the last nail into the coffin of Detroit?

The only one that makes any sense at all is Ficano, and after he delivered a Hitler-style State of the County Address last month in strident praise of embryo-murdering, tumor-producing embryotic stem call (ESC) factory line production coming to a Wayne County address near you, well, the whole place is cursed.

When Con-yours derailed Cobo last week and Ficano immediately went on his usual WWJ whinefest, I just laughed and laughed and laughed...

Because to do so would not advance the proper agenda and would be regarded as racist rhetoric--possibly even Hate Speech. (But you already knew that, didn't you?)

One of the most fascinating items in the article I linked above is a statistic about how many people are even moving their dead family members out of Detroit.

For every 30 people who have moved out of Detroit in recent years, there's been one dead person disinterred from a cemetery and moved somewhere else.

It doesn't get any worse than that, eh?

You don't have to live in the Detroit suburbs or even in Michigan to financially support that cesspool. They exist on your tax dollars right now and more is in the pipeline--much, much more.

As more dim territories go belly up (i.e. California), the people in the conservative states will have to support them. The Zero and his dim congress will see to it.

I keep hearing how intractable and hopeless Detroit’s problems are.

Just wondering:

If, hypothetically, you were to take all of the present residents of Detroit, move them to say, Bismarck, North Dakota or Concord New Hampshire, and move all the North Dakota/New Hampshire people into Detroit, as is...basically swap everybody.

Does ANYBODY doubt what Detroit would look like in 5 years, and does ANYBODY doubt what Bismarck or Concord would look like?

Just like schools in big “inner” cities—the same ones that turned out generations of doctors, lawyers, executives, etc., many from poor immigrant families, in the first 60-70 years of the 20th Century, and the same ones that Asian immigrants excelled in in the 80s and 90s before their folks made enough to move to the ‘burbs—if you swapped the students of Baltimore City Schools and Beverly Hills City Schools and gave things 3 years, what would be the result?

A bigot is a bigot regardless of the color of his comtemtible rump. The black nationalist thing is pure unadulterated bigotry.

Much of the Alinsky cult uses the cry of racism to keep the press from bringing up the dreaded M-word (pure marxism).

Detroit's Cobo Hall is in desperate need of renovation and expansion if Detroit is to keep the International Auto Show. Currently the hall loses about $18,000,000 per year. Detroit's interim mayor begged the state and suburbs to come up with a plan to save the hall. many months, the state and the suburbs finally relented and agreed to finance the renovation and take over the deficit, with Cobo Hall becoming a regional endeavor.

The racist city council turned down the offer, claiming that state and suburban racists were trying to steal Detroit's gem. There actions were so far beyond the pale, the hatred so apparent, that even Jenny Granholm was taken aback.

“Zululand” was of course an actual country in 18th and 19th century Africa.

The reference was made to tie into the highly apt “Third World” reference made in other posts that were not deleted.

Detroit shows many similarities to the semi-civilized Zululand of 200 years ago.

A school district near Dallas (Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District) elected a completely Black school board. In a few years, the state had to close the school district. First and still the only time in Texas history such action was taken against a school district. The students were aborbed into the surrounding districts.

Nobody seemed to know where the money was— it just wasn’t in the place it was supposed to be in order to pay the bills. Just gone. Of course, it goes without saying that nobody was getting educated.

As the closing was announced, there was some pretty funny video when some tipped-off TV channels showed up and taped the schools being looted of computers, TV’s and such — by the TEACHERS.

I don’t actually know why this seems to happen when Black leadership takes over— it must have to do with community expectations and some sort of world view that blatant corruption is a means of ‘getting even’ somehow. With Obama in charge the demands, feeling of entitlement, and ‘stick-it-to-Whitey’ attitudes might increase where Black leadership is in place on a local level. We’ll see, I guess.

I was reading the Weekly Standard Labash article recommended by Alberta's Child -- nice read. Excerpt: "It is a city without a single national grocery store chain."

And mind you, when it was clearly pointed out to Con-yours over the weekend that due to her nyet vote, the next incarnation of Cobo Hall will end up in Oakland Co., Con-yours response was that Oakland Co. was nothing but "grocery stores".

F---, I love irony.

Of course, there’s the New Orleans School Board, who, around 1998-99, voted to strip George Washington’s name from one of their schools-he was a slaveowner. They actually had a board who reviewed all school names to ensure that no “verboten” names were on the schools.

The several names who were deemed offensive (I wonder how many of the kids knew who any of them were, including Washington)were removed, and replaced with names of black notables to build self-esteem. After all, Koreans and Indians did terrible in schools not named after their countrymen....

Got to have priorities, I guess. After all, the city didn’t have to worry about the possibility of hurricanes or floods or anything....

Funny, I haven’t heard about the success of the renaming project—I’m sure there are Rhodes Scholars coming out of the NO schools as far as the eye can see......
