"Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand."— Isa 53:10WHAT myriads of eyes are casting their glances at the sun! What multitudes of men lift up their eyes, and behold the...

...Just as you can starve a fat person and induce them to lose weight, you can starve a child and prevent them from growing. Neither implies that overeating was the root cause of their getting fat or growing bigger. There is considerable evidence that the obesity epidemic is caused by a hormonal phenomenon, specifically by the consumption of refined carbohydrates, starches and sugars, all of which prompt (sooner or later) excessive insulin secretion. Insulin is the primary regulator of fat storage. When insulin levels are elevated, fat accumulates in our body tissue; when they fall, fat is released and we...

Researchers at University of Cape Town in South Africa reported Friday the discovery of a variation of an immunity gene that weakens the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), slowing down the progression of AIDS and making the virus less potent if transmitted to others. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, and like all viruses it must invade and takeover cells in order to replicate itself. But in order for the virus to successfully hijack the cell, it must evade several genes, including an immunity virus named HLA. "Some people have versions of the HLA gene that are known to force...

Jeremiah Wright will preach three guest sermons at Houston's Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. Marcus Cosby, could not be reached for comment Friday. A spokesman for the church said Wright, who has offered sermons at Wheeler annually for the past 15 years, had been scheduled as part of the church's regular speaker's program.

. (AP) Senator Barack Obama has told members of his denomination that some conservative Christian leaders have exploited and politicized religion to sow division. In a 30-minute speech before the national meeting of the United Church of Christ, which supports gay marriage, the Democratic presidential candidate said, "Faith got hijacked, partly because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, all too eager to exploit what divides us." Obama said, "They've told Evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their church, while suggesting to the rest of the country that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion...

GARY, Ind.—Veteran officer Thomas Houston didn't mince words when he took over as police chief in this violence-plagued city, promising to "implode" the department and make big changes, even if it went against public sentiment. "I'm popular now," he said last May. "I will trade that for respect." Less than a year later, Houston is out of a job. He and his top two deputies face federal civil rights charges accusing them of roughing up four people Houston suspected of breaking into his house last June.

The Number Five wanted list was issued late yesterday on Lhasa Television, which showed more grainy photographs taken from video footage and stills of those taking part in what Beijing has dubbed the “March 14 Incident”. Millions of Americans sit comfortably in front of TV screens each day, engrossed in rousing entertainment, sports madness or reality shows -- without the slightest idea they are perilously unprotected from another horrifying terrorist attack. They can thank the Democratic House of Representatives for failing to pass a sufficient update to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA). “Every day that goes by is one less day of protection,” said U.S. Representative Tom Feeney (R-FL). “The terrorists know this. They watch TV, too.” The cause of concern is the refusal among House majority members to include an immunity provision...
