LANCASTER, Pa.—Former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith has removed his name from consideration as a presidential candidate for the Constitution Party, as party members prepare for a national convention to choose their nominee.

An e-mail sent by the party on Friday listed Smith among potential candidates heading into the convention next month in Kansas City. But Gary Odom, the party's national field director, said Smith has dropped out.

This is the clown who endorsed John Kerry in 2004.

About par for the course for the fauxcons in the CP.

Why is that “par for the course?” Have they a history of supporting leftwing Republicans and if so, why not support this years nominee?

He also endorsed Duncan Hunter this year. While he was in the Senate, he was the most conservative from the entire northeast, and among the most conservative overall.

http://archive.seacoastonline.com/1999news/7_13b.htm

“I came into the Republican Party on principle, and I’m leaving on principle,” Smith said on CNN’s “Larry King Live.” He decried leaders in his party “who believe that electing people with an `R’ next to their name is more important than principle.”

...

GOP presidential contender Steve Forbes, touring Iowa yesterday, called Smith’s decision a “wake-up call” for the party establishment.

“It’s not that Bob Smith is abandoning the Republican Party, it’s that the Republican establishment is in the process of abandoning grass-roots conservatives,” Forbes said. “It’s a bad omen for the GOP when a solid Reagan conservative like Bob Smith would even consider leaving.”

...

Sound familiar?

Gotta be a tagline in there.....

More of a history of supporting ex-GOP crybabies.

Say what you will about Bob Smith, but for a few years, he was a pro-life champion in the U.S. Senate.

Not that it matters much but his political savvy seems to be missing sometimes. Guess he did wake up and realize the CP wasn't any big step up for him.

He also endorsed Duncan Hunter this year.

Which would indicate that he's a mental patient.

Describe for me the logical process that leads one to endorse both John Kerry and Duncan Hunter.

The two are polar opposites in philosophy and in record.

The irony of ironies is that right now, Steve Forbes is one of McCain’s economic and tax reform advisers, and McCain is a RINO.

I don’t know who he endorsed in 2004 but Bob Smith is not a clown. He’s a decent man who, 15 or 20 years ago, was at the forefront of trying to get a team into Vietnam to determine if and/or how many American POWs were still in country and being held long after the war had ended. The effort was thwarted in large part by our illustrious current candidate for president. I’d vote for Bob Smith any day of the week over John McCain.

If you got treated by the party establishment the way he got treated, you'd hold a grudge too - which explains the Kerry endorsement.

The Hunter endorsement is easy - Hunter's policies don't differ much from Smith's.

It is pretty ironic. Sad, too, that RINOism is the only game left in town.

Steve Forbes has always been a strong advocate of free enterprise and trade, and he has always been an advocate of reducing immigration restrictions.

The two biggest criticisms of McCain seem to be that he supports amnesty for illegals and that he is a globalist "free traitor."

So, by the standards of the purer-than-thou crew, Forbes has always been a RINO.

I see - so he is like Hunter in most respects, except for the key detail of Hunter not being a baby.

What was his 2004 candidate John Kerry's position on sending teams of POW investigators to Vietnam?

Somewhat to the right of your candidate McCain's position.

Somewhat to the right of your candidate McCain's position.

(1) McCain is not "my" candidate.

(2) I'm sure you can provide a link documenting John Kerry's support for the POW investigative mission.

(3) Why would this issue be important enough in 2004 to endorse John Kerry?
