Bob's Monologue Strikes a Chord
March 21, 2008 BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Bob in Miami, I'm glad you called, sir. You're next on Open Line Friday. Hi.
CALLER: Hi, Rush, and thank God that you're on the air.
RUSH: Thank you, sir. I agree.
CALLER: You're the watchman on the wall, my friend, sounding the alarm.
RUSH: Trying to, yes.
CALLER: First of all, Rush, I have been around a long time, since before World War II, and I have seen these political parties deteriorate to what they are today.
I have had it with both of them. Both of them are not worth the powder to blow 'em to hell.
We need a third party desperately.
RUSH: Did you say they're not worth...?
Wait a minute.
Did you say neither party's worth the powder it would take to blow 'em to hell?
CALLER: That's right.
RUSH: (laughter) I love that.
I love that.
Because I thought you said, it weren't worth the powder to make 'em up.
And I said, that can't be, so I read the transcription. The powder to blow 'em away.
Great.
CALLER: Well, it's true.
RUSH: Yes. Yes.
CALLER: Let me tell you something.
Like I said, I've been around a long time.
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: We have parties now and voters and people in this country who think it is fashionable to be a traitor to your country. Whenever you give aid and comfort to the enemy during time of war
-- it's in the Constitution, if these morons want to ever look it up --
it's punishable by death.
Now, if the New York Times ever printed, say, for example, we had cracked the Japanese code in World War II. Do you know what would have happened?
Five minutes after that article hit the street, the FBI, Secret Service, US Marshals would have been up there and arrested everybody that had anything to do with that thing, with the exception of the truck drivers, the printers, and the copy boys. And they would have been tried for treason.
And if they were found guilty, they would have been executed.
If people don't think that we executed people during the Second World War for treasons: I am pursue with these parties. I have had the course.
I'm watching my country slowly but surely go down the toilet because of these people who put their party before their country, and I have had it.
I will vote for Republican this time because I don't vote for traitors, and that's what these people are. You've got Daschle out there. He's out of it. You got Pelosi out there. RUSH: Be careful. I knew what you were going to say --
CALLER: I know, I know.
RUSH: -- because we have a 40-second delay. If you say anything, we can handle it.
CALLER: Well, I don't want to be rude and crude. I've learned something over these years.
RUSH: Well, it's a very fine line between rude and crude and accurate.
CALLER: Well, in that case, she's a bitch!
RUSH: All right.
CALLER: All right? I've had it with them.
I've had it.
They've put their party before the country, and I am stick of it.
I'm quite sure I speak for a lot of people out here when I say it.
RUSH: You said you're going to vote Republican this time. Have you been voting Democrat?
CALLER: Are you crazy? I started out as a Democrat in the forties and fifties. Then I noticed that the Democrats left me, and I went independent.
And then when Reagan came around and I voted for him, and I said,
"Oh, I finally got party."
Now the Republican Party has left me.
I'll stay Republican, just to vote in primaries, because independents can't vote in primaries.
But I have had it.
I have really, really had it.
It's got to the point now -- RUSH: Okay, what are your grievances against the Republicans?
CALLER: We sent them to Washington to do something for the country,
not to bend over and kiss their butt, okay?
You can censor that if you want.
RUSH: Kiss whose butt, their own or the Democrats'?
CALLER: The Democrats'.
You know, there's two parties that are supposed to, be against each other and come to some kind of an agreement that pleases everybody and is good for the country.
These Republicans now have bent over backwards to go help the Democrats, and all they succeeded in doing is driving our economy through the floor by this excessive of spending. You want to see something?
You know, I don't want to really plug another guy's show, but go to Glenn Beck and read the interview with Wilson, the controller general of the United States.
We are in debt, and we will never get out.
Do you know what the debt is? RUSH: Yeah, it's --
CALLER: Fifty-three trillion dollars.
RUSH: Yep.
CALLER: Fifty-three trillion! I don't think there's that much money around, and it's the way he said it over there.
In order to get out of this, every family has to way 200 or $400,000 to get out of this debt.
RUSH: Fat chance of that.
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: You know, Bob, one of the things that you mentioned here in your monologue
was that the Republicans have failed and they have joined the Democrats to try and get along.
That's frankly one of the things that really bugs me because what the Democrats want is not good for the future of the country.
What the Democrats want is what's good for them, and I can tell that's what's bothering you. They would just as soon trash whatever they have to trash in order to reclaim their power and then claim to go about fixing the mess that they made.
The problem is they don't fix any mess that they make
-- and there are gobs of them out there, from all of the social welfare programs, part of the Great Society and the war on poverty, abject messes.
Social Security is far, far and away beyond what it was ever intended. Well, I take that back.
I think FDR knew exactly what he wanted and he got it: something that was a leading indicator or factor in getting Democrats elected every four years as often as possible.
This is what bothers me about Republicans who think that there's some in showing that they're nice people
and they can get along with Democrats.
When that happens, the Democrats get at what they want, they prevail, and it is frustrating.
I understand that profoundly. It's one of the big problems a lot of us are having in this particular campaign cycle.
Bob, I appreciate the call. I gotta run.
Don't cave in yet.
Don't give up.
As long as here we're, there's still a chance. I will tell you when it's time to pack it in. BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: We just hung up on our phone conversation with Bob from Miami, and I checked a couple e-mails during the commercial break, and a surprising number of people
-- in a good way, a surprising number of people --
said, "You know, people ought to listen to that old timer.
These old timers are the ones that need to be listened to,"
and it reminded me of the timeless wisdom capsulated by my 35 Undeniable Truths of Life, in which number 16 says: "The collective knowledge and wisdom of seasoned citizens is the most valuable yet untapped resource our young people have."
Of course, a lot of young people look at seasoned citizens and say, "I don't want to hang around grandma. It's not cool."
But, boy, if they ever did...
You gotta listen to people who have been alive a long time. This guy says he was around prior to World War II, and gave a history lesson, a brief one, about demise of both political parties. "The collective knowledge and wisdom of seasoned citizens is the most valuable yet untapped resource our young people have."

Is it just us old guys, who are in favor of jailing or hanging a few dozen Congress Critters and OTHERS who have clearly committed TREASON by any rational man’s definition of the term?

Have to agree there. When Specter came on I turned Rush off and didn’t turn him back on. Haven’t done that for a long time.

I agree with the old timer until he rattles off that he’s going to vote for the likes of McCain. At that point I part with old timers. I believe that a third party is desparately needed. I will not vote for people who are for open borders or international unions that hobble our self-determination.
I have no confidence in this government. It looks for all intents and purposes that it is prepared within one decade to surrender our sovereignty and self-determination upon the alter of globalism.
I serve no such god.

Bob says "Both of them are not worth the powder to blow 'em to hell. "and then goes on to say he's going to vote republican.
Either he's not paying attention when he speaks or he's not being honest with himself.
Mcloon is the problem, just like the rest of the slither to the middle or in mcloons case, far left, politicians who infest the armpit that is the republican party today. He's willing to embrace the left body and soul for a few minutes camera face time...
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over in the same way and expecting a different outcome. And we've suffered enough insanity in this country to fill Bellevue Asylum to overflowing.

I was fortunate that I got into my car just in time to catch this call. I'm so glad Rush let him vent...what a great call. I found myself agreeing with much of it...especially what seemed to be an underlying anger about being abandoned by the Republican Party.
That anger the caller captured is very prevalent...this could be one year where voters who thought of themselves as a member of either major party looks at "their" nominee (Hillary, McCain) and uses some of that language the caller commendably refrained from using. I know I've used plenty ever since the sickening realization that McCain was "our" nominee.
As someone said to me today about Hillary, Obama and McCain... "This is the best America can come up with?" I replied, "This is the best the two parties could come up with."

Will your third party be the type of voters who have the proper response to 9/11. You know, "bent out of shape" over the events of that day. Anything else, and we have over-reacted. Inquiring minds want to know.
Quote comes from you by the way on a thread about 6 months ago, where you were berating Freepers for being angry over 9/11.

I can’t imagine a reason for my making such a statement, so absent the quote and what it was in response to, I don’t know how to respond to your charge.
The United States and it’s citizens had every right to be angry about 09/11, and IMO to respond with military action in the ways we have.
I can only imagine that I might have been sarcastic to anyone who suggested we shouldn’t be, but I would be interested to see any comment where I infered I didn’t think we should be angry about 09/11.
Perhaps a splinter arguement was to be made on a specific point, but I can’t recall any such point right now.

As always, El Rushbo is right and we should listen to our elders. You and Rush are right... What is amazing about Rush is that he gets these kinds of calls and then lets them go... gives the guy the room to make his point... empathizes and treats him with great respect... That's why Rush is the best. He does it so effortlessly and with such dignity -- for 3 hours a day!

I've been angry at you since I read that post. And you are probably right. That it was just a splinter argument that I stumbled onto. That's the danger of Free Republic. On long threads... it's easy to fall into the middle of something.
I'm glad to know that you feel that we have the right to be angry, and we responded in the proper way. The post left a bitter taste that the only reaction you found acceptable was where we could be "bent out of shape" and no more.
I am much relieved to find that my deep anger is "acceptable."

I think your numbers are off in the traitor category in DC. I would say there’s about 80% or more of the US Congress that would qualify.
