For weeks now I have read articles and posts here on Free Republic that bash one candidate over another, but today we will discuss the pros and cons of the "flat tax" vs the "sales tax".To get this out of the way...Tonight in the debate McCain mentioned he could support a flat tax, so that only leaves one candidate left that supports a graduated income tax system, Bush. The others are for a flat tax or a sales tax. Confused by proposed changes in the tax system? Compare features of the NRST with the current income tax or the flat ...

A Global Pro-Democracy Movement By Norman Solomon It's a pro-democracy movement. And it's global. The vibrant social forces that converged on Seattle -- and proceeded to deflate the WTO summit -- are complex, diverse and sometimes contradictory. Yet the threads of their demands form a distinct weave: We want full democratic rights for all people. Leaders of the U.S. government are pleased to say nice things about some pro-democracy movements -- far away. But here at home, their pretense is that the conditions of democracy have already been achieved. Yes, many of us sampled those conditions in Seattle, complete with ...

Bob, {Your original email follows on the bottom of this response.} I understand what you are saying and the example of Ronald Reagan is a good point. Yes, I agree from the point of view of the Left Wing, Elites, the Press and those who see the Constitution as an obstacle - that Alan Keyes would not be seen as marketable by them. First, I believe that the amount of Left Wing voters is a minority(I'm guessing but I think it is 20% or less). I don't think this group voted for or ever liked Reagan or will ever vote ...

U.N. coming for your guns Private groups, governments team up to restrict use, ownership of firearms -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Stephan Archer and Sarah Foster © 1999 WorldNetDaily.com American gun owners and advocacy groups like the National Rifle Association are suddenly finding that when it comes to firearms legislation, they had better pay attention to what's happening not only in Congress and their state legislatures, but at the United Nations, where the Second Amendment is being quietly dismantled behind closed doors. Since the end of the Cold War, the disarmament community has brought small arms and light weapons within its sphere ...

Most of the thousands of students who listened Monday to Mikhail Gorbachev were only 11 or 12 years old during the time in the late '80s and early '90s when he was arguably one of the two or three most important players on the global political stage. Yet the O' Connell Center was packed nearly to capacity with students and members of the community wanting to see and remember one of the most important men of the 20th century. "I figured it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and my daughter to see someone that important," ...

Due to my limited technical skills, I haven't been able to transfer the exact info here. Maybe someone can do this. The poll results are, roughly, McCain won with about 18%, Bush second with about 16%, and Keyes was third with about 11%. Also, about 66% of the respondents favored McCain's freedom-destroying campaign finance ideas. This is a poll that won't allow you to vote more than once. The results make me want to cry.

As I left a recent Yankees playoff game, I walked with a cheering throng past a stand of rah! rah! Yankees souvenirs: YANKEES t-shirts, YANKEES pennants, YANKEES hats, YANKEES bats--and the crucial METS SUCK T-shirts. A few days later, in the National League playoffs, the Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks. The TV stand-up trying to report live from Shea Stadium was quickly drowned out by exhilarated Mets fans giddily chanting--I'm quoting here--"Yankees suck! Yankees suck!" Those two spontaneously occurring New York phenomena led me to marvel once again at how it is Hillary "I Root for Both" Clinton managed to ...

It's very unfortunate that so many people here are completely obsessed with Dr. Keys (or Ambassador Keys?). The guy is full of hot air, cannot control himself and unable to overcome his blackness. And (yes!) he is black. I mean he is black first, and anything else second. Hey, do you REALLY want black president? I know you'll call me a racist you politically correct pathetic "conservative", but - face it! - this would be a disaster. And let me tell you one more thing: this nation is doomed - not because of liberal gang, but because of "conservatives" like ...

On institutional values December 7, 1999 A few lingering thoughts on the whole World Trade Organization event: WTO supporters, which includes Clinton and his "liberal" media, say they are for freedom. Front-line and armchair protesters - not to be confused with the handful of vandals that destroyed property - say they're for freedom, too. The crucial question is: freedom for whom? If you look at how the WTO operates, you will see that it stands for corporate license; autonomy for affluent consumers and permission for the wealthy to levy the heavy social costs of "development" and "globalization" on the shoulders ...

COLUMBUS, Ohio –– The company that owns the dominant newspaper and CBS-TV affiliate in central Ohio is battling the world's largest media and entertainment company over a cable news station. And it's eliminating ONN from most of its other cable operations in Ohio.
