Almost three times as many people, most of them in tropical countries of the Third World, die of preventable, curable diseases as die of AIDS. Malaria, tuberculosis, acute lower-respiratory infections--in 1998, these claimed 6.1 million lives. People died because the drugs to treat those illnesses are nonexistent or are no longer effective. They died because it doesn't pay to keep them alive. Click here for rest of article

Americans' medical records no longer are secure, and four health-care bills recently proposed in Congress may not go far enough in restoring encroached privacy rights. It once seemed to be Orwellian fiction, but no more. At the turn of the millennium at least four bills dealing with loss of medical privacy are being considered on Capitol Hill, and intense bureaucratic debates are occurring within the Department of Health and Human Services, or HHS. There is reason for this concern. . . . . Take smart cards. Databases. Highly personal information. Mix these with federal mandates, the perception of invaded privacy ...

Hillary Rodham Clinton's personal life and leftist ideology will be under intense public scrutiny if she runs for senator from New York. Will her political dreams be realized or broken? Immediately after the Senate impeachment trial of her husband sympathy was carrying Hillary Rodham Clinton's presumed candidacy for the Senate from New York. But a new poll by New York-based pollster John Zogby indicates it will take more than a Greenwich Village to raise the first lady to a Senate victory. The June 26-28 poll shows the likely Republican candidate, New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, widening his 6-point lead over ...

(Washington, D.C.): On 23 June, Hutchison USA announced its investment of $957 million into the combined telecommunications company of Voicestream Wireless and Omnipoint. Hutchison is already the largest shareholder in Voicestream, owning 24% of the company and its latest investment will increase its ownership to 30% of the newly merged conglomerate. Normally, such an announcement would not receive a second glance in the morning edition. Since, on closer inspection, Hutchinson is not a run-of -the-mill American corporation, this transaction demands a careful review by national security-minded agencies of the U.S. government and, most especially, by the Committee on Foreign Investment ...

The local police, FBI, and CIA are all trying to prove that they are the best at apprehending criminals. A blue-ribbon panel decides to give them a test by releasing a rabbit into a forest and have each agency attempt a capture. The CIA places animal informants throughout the forest. They question all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive investigations they conclude rabbits do not exist. After two weeks with no leads, the FBI burns the forest, killing everything in it including the rabbit and they make no apologies. The rabbit, it seems, had it coming. Then ...

Let's not make same mistakes with gun control By Eric Sharp It was 39 years ago that they "sent me off to college to gain a little knowledge," as Jimmy Buffett sang. It was a different world then. We smoked a little marijuana and drank a lot of beer, but there was no drug problem. Then something happened. New drugs appeared -- LSD, speed, all kinds of weird pills. Where their dads had returned from war with Japanese flags and German daggers, many '60s and '70s GIs returned from Southeast Asia with heroin habits. Drugs invaded the campuses, TV ...

Don learned from his attorney Sam Stretton Saturday evening: 1.The DA is discouraging use of the video and may not supply video equipment. 2.Assistant DA Bruce Saegle stated in front of Brian Bucley(FR's Counsel aka Clarity)that everybody knows that don Adams did not punch anyone, that the women were lying. Saegle denies it!! 3.The trial will not be scheduled in a protracted room(one that is used for big cases, with room for witnesses, where no other hearings will be scheduled)as was originally planned. Instead it will be held in a normal courtroom and will be limited to one half day!! ...

Michael Medved had an excellent radio program today on the history of third parties. Following is just a few of the points he made in the 3 hour radio program. I invite anybody who heard him today to contribute to this discussion because it was a lot for my poor mind to remember and also a lot to jot down. Michael started off by saying that complaining about the 2 party systems was nothing new. The 2 party system is about 170 years old and people have been complaining about the 2 party systems for 170 years!Debate for starting a ...

Lawyers and the Holocaust By ELLI WOHLGELERNTER (July 5) - Attorneys handling cases dealing with compensation for survivors are also battling criticism over taking money for their efforts. Put the words "Holocaust" and "money" together in the same sentence and you've created a volatile mix, leaving you in a quandary between morality and practicality. So it was no surprise this week at a news conference publicizing the $1.25 billion Swiss banks case that the follow-up questions focused largely on one issue: how much will the lawyers be paid for their services? The criticism over this issue is easy enough for ...

I stood amazed this 4th of July. It was not your typical 4th, at least in my view. I was able to attend a 4th of July celebration in the very city of Independence. Philadelphia. I had great expectations as this is the city where Independence Hall stands, the burial place of one Dr. Benjamin Franklin and home of the Liberty Bell. Those Expectations were shattered. Let me preface this with a few bits of information. I am a currently active Military Pilot, have a deep love of my country, study the foundational era of our nations history all the ...

The Bill of No Rights We, the sensible of the of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid any more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great grandchildren, hereby try one more time to obtain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt-ridden delusional, and other liberal, commie, pinko bedwetters. We hold these truths to be self-evident that a whole lot of people were confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim ...

Bush Prepared Remarks April 10, 1996; Kerrville, Texas Your invitation to speak here is a rare opportunity. It gives me a chance to more fully discuss why I believe as I do, the rationale and the reasons for the conservative philosophy that is the foundation for every decision I will make so long as I am Governor. Cooper said there are more than 2,000 hate sites on the World Wide Web, compared with just ...
