His Policy Proposals Attract Support,Yet Even Old Allies Worry He Can't Win Former Vice President Dan Quayle came to Washington yesterday to advance his "campaign of ideas" for the Republican presidential nomination but conceded his frustration that the clownish reputation from his early days in the national spotlight continues to plague his efforts. In a speech at the American Enterprise Institute, Quayle detailed tax changes and reforms in health insurance and labor law designed to ease the economic burdens on young families and enable one parent to spend more time at home. Responding to the widespread concern that too many ...

A VIEW FROM HERE by deb weiss Mr. Clinton's Post-War Vengeance June 28, 1999 There was something chillingly vindictive in President Clinton's commentary on the Serbs at last Friday's not-really-a-news-conference in Washington. You couldn't miss it, as he justified his decision to deny assistance to Serbia, whose civilian infrastructure lies shattered by Nato bombing (the Serb military, by contrast, seems to have come through the recent unpleasantness relatively unscathed). Those buckets of money we're shipping overseas even now are strictly off-limits to the people we bombed into compliance. Off-limits, that is, until they say they're sorry. "They are going to ...

MOSCOW, Jun 29, 1999 -- (Reuters) Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said Monday Russia was cooperating with NATO over a peacekeeping force in Kosovo but that otherwise ties with the military alliance remained frozen. Ivanov said a visit by a group of Russian officers to Brussels Monday could ease tensions created by NATO's 11-week bombing campaign against Russia's fellow Slav and Orthodox Christian brethren in Yugoslavia. The officers, headed by a vice admiral, are due to discuss peacekeeping in Serbia's southern province of Kosovo. "Those contacts which are necessary for members of NATO and Russia to participate in the peacekeeping ...

This is just too funny not to share with FR..... Dear Friends - My friend Gene sent this to me and it is too good not to share: Have any of you heard how Al Gore lives a Christ centered life????? He gave a big speech this week about how his faith is so important to him. Well the funny part is, he said his favorite Bible verse is John 16:3. Of course the speech writer meant 3:16, and Al Gore wasn't familiar enough to catch the error. Well John 16:3 is -- " And they will do this because ...

I have seen Billy the Buffoon comment that People have even accused me of murder. I would assume that would be related to the Clinton Chronicles. Well if the Clinton Chronicles are not true why has no one ever sued the producers for Liaible? Could it be they are afraid of the disclosure rule?

HOW serious are the country's theater owners in their new vigilance against letting underage kids into R-rated films? We shall see when "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut" opens tomorrow. Though the risque Comedy Central series has built a large following among the under-17 crowd, the "South Park" movie is not for kids. Actually, that's an understatement. In terms of language alone, the Paramount-Warner Bros. co-production is undoubtedly one of the filthiest mainstream films ever released. We can't get into the specifics here, of course, but the sheer volume and creativity of the children's swearing would embarrass a longshoreman. ...

Convicted felon Webster L. Hubbell has signed a deal with independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr to avoid prison in exchange for admitting he lied about legal work he did for an Arkansas real estate project on which he worked with Hillary Rodham Clinton. The agreement, struck this week, raises the possibility that Mr. Hubbell's cooperation could result in charges against the first lady. Law enforcement sources said Mr. Hubbell will plead guilty to a felony count of covering up his legal representation of Castle Grande, a project on which he and Mrs. Clinton worked, to avoid a trial scheduled to ...

THE MEDIACRATS When former Republican Representative Susan Molinari was given a CBS anchor slot, the Washington media stood up for their trade. Said Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post, "Well, it really just obliterates the line that used to separate the two professions. And it's kind of an insult to journalism .... because, you know, according to this star-maker mentality, what matters is not reporting experience .... or experience or fairness, but celebrity, and to take a partisan member of Congress and just magically transform him, or her, with the wave of a wand, into an anchor who can sit ...

Got this from a friend online. Does anyone know anything about this group? They sound like they're getting lots of money from GWB (aka Clinton Lite) and his minions. Check out where they pick Elizabeth DOLE, who betrayed us on guns and abortion, as GWB's VP! ========================================= You see them all over the place around here: in Washington's poshest restaurants enjoying hefty expense account lunches, popping into the plastic surgeon's office for a quick peel or a facelift, huddling together at upmarket functions discussing in animated whispers the latest phone call to Austin's Governor's Mansion. They are Washington's permanent Republican ...

Together with its international stablemates, the Australian newspaper has been relentless in churning out NATO propaganda. A recent gem was an article about a Serbian 'torture chamber' by a London Times' reporter, reprinted in the Weekend Australian (19-20/6/99). The alleged torture chamber had been an accommodation centre for students until the Serbian Police took it over after NATO bombed their previous headquarters. That was one of very few facts in the article. I am not disputing that torture may have been employed in this Balkans war. Or even that it was employed in one particular building. But if it has, ...

Everybody who likes to take a breath without choking should be relieved that Carol Browner knows how to fight as well as make sound policy. This week the head of the Environmental Protection Agency will fight a federal appeals court panel's ruling that would gut tougher clean air standards based on the latest generally accepted scientific evidence of the dangers ozone (smog) and fine, particulate matter (soot) pose to healthy lungs. Not quite two years ago, the EPA received several petitions from Eastern states seeking relief from ozone pollution originating elsewhere. This month, the Agency acted to make sure that ...
