Fellow Concerned Conservatives: Are you tired of the current malaise in politics? From President Clinton to the Establishment figures in the Republican Party, it seems as though the choices we have been getting are no choices at all. The Establishment is ready for a "Gore vs. Gore-lite" contest -- we at Unity 2000 have something else in mind. Remember ‘92? Remember ‘96? We were told, on both occasions, to be quiet and accept a moderate, so that we might have "victory." Not in 2000, folks. We don't want those candidates. We don't want those "victories." Unity 2000 – an organization ...

Lamar Smith again urged the Clinton administration Wednesday to step up its hiring of Border Patrol agents as Southwest ranchers told Congress that "we must remain armed at all times." Smith, chairman of the House Judiciary subcommittee on immigration, said the tales of violence and chaos along the U.S-Mexico border are the "consequence of having too few Border Patrol agents to protect Americans." A robust economy and ...

The argument over gun-control measures is an argument over how many restrictions will be placed on the rights of honest citizens. The argument has nothing to do with the National Rifle Association. The neo-totalitarians in America are nothing if not unoriginal. They follow a fixed pattern. They create a straw man, demonize the straw man, then frame the argument as a contest between good and the evil demon. In the case of gun control, the NRA is the designated demon. In the case of the illegal bombing of Yugoslavia, the designated demon was Slobodan Milosevic. The NRA is one ...

Unfortunately, his own scholarship is open to question. He says the Second Amendment is only "a militia ordinance," adding, "In all the ratifying debates on the Constitution and on the Second Amendment, the right of the individual to possess guns was not once discussed." Mr. Wills seems to have forgotten that the purpose of the Bill of Rights was to restrain the federal government and to reassure ...

LOS ANGELES — A man who pleaded guilty to the murders of five gay men, saying he strangled them to death to stop the spread of AIDS, was sentenced Monday to five life prison terms without the possibility of parole. Juan Chavez, 35, pleaded guilty in March to killing the five men during the 1980s. Under a plea bargain deal with prosecutors, he was spared the death penalty. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jacqueline Connor sentenced Chavez to five consecutive life terms. Prosecutors say Chavez met the men at bars and went home with them with the promise of ...

PARIS—After decades of vulnerability to the hundreds of ballistic missiles that surround it, Israel will have a national missile defense system operational within a year, several Israeli officials said in interviews at the Paris Air Show. Other officials, speaking privately, said the shield, called the Arrow Weapon System, will be in the field even sooner, by early 2000. Either way, Arrow is on track to become the first fielded western system designed and developed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles. Arrow was displayed in public for the first time here. In interviews with Defense Week, officials gave unusually candid assessments of ...

NIPRNET would be network of choice Concerned that potential computer problems surrounding the Year 2000 date change will leave the Defense Department vulnerable to electronic attacks, DOD officials say the department may unplug itself from the Internet to defend itself against a cyber assault. Marvin Langston, the Defense Department's deputy chief information officer, said last week that discussion of DOD disconnecting from the Internet around the time of the date change is "as serious as a heart attack. "We need to close down back doors around the year 2000 to prevent hacking during Y2K confusion," he stated during a panel ...

New Waco Film, Vince Foster, and Wesley Clark The Delta Force Was There Amid Nato military supremo Wesley Clark's onslaught on the civilians of Serbia the question arose: did Clark hone his civilian-killing skills at Waco, where the FBI oversaw the largest single spasm of slaughter of civilians by law enforcement in US history, when nearly a hundred Branch Davidians died amid an assault by tanks, flame-throwers and snipers. The tanks were from Fort Hood, where Wesley Clark was, in early 1993, commander of the Cavalry Division of the US Army's III Corps. In our last issue we cited a ...

DES MOINES, Iowa — Republican presidential aspirant Pat Buchanan charged Monday that a porous border with Mexico was letting illegal drugs as well as illegal immigrants enter the United States. Buchanan, a vociferous critic of the North American Free Trade Agreement, said the early leaders in the race for the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations, Vice President Al Gore and Texas Gov. George W. Bush, shared permissive views on border control. "Governor Bush is for open borders on immigration. He's pro-NAFTA,'' Buchanan said. "He's a globalist. He agrees with Clinton and Gore on all those issues, and I disagree ...

WASHINGTON (AP)-- The Supreme Court today temporarily blocked the dismantling of a special public school district for disabled children in a New York community of ultra-Orthodox Jews. The justices, granting an emergency request by state officials, postponed the effect of a ruling in which New York's highest court said creation of the school district violated the constitutionally required seperation of government and religion. The court had been told its help was "the only apparent means of preventing nearly 220 handicapped students served by the Kiryas Joel Union Free School District from being locked out of their school."The school district will be allowed ...

HOUSTON — A train-hopping Mexican drifter suspected of being a serial killer was placed on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list Monday after Illinois police charged him with two murders. FBI special agent-in-charge Don Clark said Rafael Resendez Ramirez, 39, was wanted for questioning in at least eight killings, all of which have taken place near railroad tracks. "This is a real dangerous, extremely violent person. We want him off the streets,'' Clark told reporters. Resendez, a native of Puebla, Mexico, was charged Monday in the slayings of George Morber, 80, and his daughter, Carolyn Frederick, 52. Their bodies ...

JOHN MCCAIN has introduced his bill, entitled PROTECT ACT, an acronym for "Promote Reliable on Line Transactions to Encourage Commerce and Trade" "PROTECT" is supposed to provide for exports to "responsible entities and governments of OECD, NATO, and ASEAN goverments" PROTECT would allow exporters to ship "non-defense" cryptography of over 64 bits, currently forbidden, except to "selected" countries. One of the anomalies in the bill is that many of the OECD countries currently restricted to 56 bits allowed by Clinton since September of 1998, would now be able to obtain 64 bits if McCain's bill is passed. WHAT IT MEANS: ...

New Trade Center Bomb Trial Nixed By LARRY NEUMEISTER .c The Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) - A judge has rejected a bid for a new trial by the first four men convicted in the World Trade Center bombing, rejecting claims that new evidence had surfaced and saying the men were well represented. In a 165-page ruling released Monday, U.S. District Judge Kevin Duffy turned aside every argument raised by lawyers handling the appeals of Mohammad Salameh, Nidal Ayyad, Mahmoud Abouhalima and Ahmad Ajaj. A federal appeals court had denied the men's appeals last year, saying they got a fair ...
