Dept. of Reeducation Conservatives rally against anti-"hate crimes" curriculum that links Christianity to hatred and violence By Bob Jones The fallout began almost before the smoke had cleared at bullet- and bomb-ravaged Columbine High School. Barely able to conceive of two suburban teens on a homicidal rampage, stunned parents across the country looked for someone to blame. Politicians, always looking for a chance to posture, found a few convenient scapegoats and led them to the slaughter. Republicans and Democrats alike abandoned traditional allies. Republicans in the Senate dumped the National Rifle Association in favor of new anti-gun legislation. Then President ...

They pledged $250,000 a year to investigate past child abuse and to aid survivors and also compiled the names of 200 people who allegedly inflicted abuse in the 1970s and '80s. Some former followers say all this is spin control and are headed to court. One former devotee, Ben Bressack, 28, ...

The death of discipline? Children must still cringe at the parental phrase, "This will hurt me more than it hurts you." But these days, it's literally true: The pain of a lawsuit lingers long after the disciplinary lash has faded from memory. By Bob Jones IV For Leah Carr, June 4 was supposed to be one of the biggest days of her young life. Like the other seniors at Dove Christian Academy in Radcliff, Ky., she was looking forward to marching down the aisle, receiving her diploma, and turning her tassel. There's just one problem: Leah is pregnant. Since she ...

Lacking records, GAO can't substantiate IRS employee misconduct WASHINGTON (AP) - Lacking adequate records, congressional auditors could not substantiate claims made in high-profile Senate hearings that the IRS retaliated against whistleblowers and taxpayers, improperly changed some tax bills and gave preferential treatment to senior managers in disciplinary cases. The Republican senator who chaired last year's Finance Committee hearings, William Roth of Delaware, said the General Accounting Office report released today raises ``serious concern'' because the Internal Revenue Service did not keep adequate records in any of these areas. ``A lack of necessary information and systemic breakdowns in record-keeping and reporting ...

June 18 — “Eight more years! Eight more years!” Such is the essential offer made to us by Vice President Al Gore. But he wants us to know it’s even better than that: choose him, and we get the very best of the current administration without any of the negatives. Think Clinton, only with trousers. AS HE FINALLY launches the campaign he was born and bred to pilot, Al Gore laments we do not really know him. Odd complaint considering he has been squarely in the public eye for more than 20 years as a congressman, senator and vice president. ...

But some Moslem Slavs from the Sanjak region in south-western Yugoslavia, who had fled fearing forced mobilisation and oppression, have gone back, spokeswoman Wendy Rappeport of the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) said. ``At this point we don't have statistics but the numbers seem to be very small, mostly Sanjaks returning to their region,'' Rappeport ...
