Just in. I am looking at a picture of the WTC with smoke pouring out of the western tower. Looks like a huge amount of damage. Debris raining down on people in the street.
Thanks. I had just got out of the Army at the end of 2000. My brother was still in the USAF. I was at a new job down here in LA. My family is still in Western PA, so between the Pentagon and hearing about Shanksville I was crushed. I went to Gettysburg College and always felt the weight of sorrow in the air when I walked the battlefield. I felt the exact same thing when I got to visit the Shanksville crash site in the summer of 2003.
Thanks Laz. It’s become my little personal way to observe the day. The September I don’t bump this thread, you will all know I’m dead.
I am trying to remember looking at the times of the posts on 9/11/01, it seems after 10:30 AM or thereabouts there was very little posted, I can’t remember were the FR servers down for most of that day from overload, I remember it was difficult to get to a lot of sites on that day.
Well, thank you for your service as well! My son is now working in Pittsburgh and I understand that Shanksville is only about 80 miles away. We hope to stop and pay our respects there some day soon. I am sure it will be as surreal an experience as it was for us to see our good friend’s name on the wall at the 911 Memorial. We have close friends whose 2 daughters graduated from Gettysburg. We have heard great things about that place.
As I recall, FR was up all day. I was checking in, as it was (and remains) the best place to sort through breaking news accounts, and don’t recall any major disruptions. Admittedly, the day was something of a blur, calling my parents and sister-in-law to see if they’d heard anything about my brother.
Sadly, it seems it's becoming just another day, for many.
I havent forgotten. Who could?
Tomorrow will be a Tuesday too, like in ‘01.

Breaks my heart re-reading the thread from that day. I will never, ever forget. Still makes my eyes well up. :-(
Ever faithful. Never forget.
Ever faithful. Never forget.
What I remember the most was not knowing exactly what was going on....there were a lot of rumors flying around, that at least 20 planes were unaccounted for and potentially headed for other targets, including Dallas....Our workplace was let out early at about 10:00 AM, I went straight to Carter Blood Center to donate blood, me and about 100 other people had the same idea, of course the Center probably only usually had a handful of people come in per day, so they were quite overwhelmed. But we ordered pizzas, and watched the news on TV while patiently waiting our turn to give blood.
We married after 9/11. We win, islamothugs don't.
#74 is interesting
It says:
Anyone consider the horrible possiblity that there may have been ANTHRAX on the plane(s)?
A week? later we have anthrax attacks
Anyone consider the horrible possiblity that there may have been ANTHRAX on the plane(s)?
Anyway to find out who 2020x100 was?
Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino's brother-in-law, Billy Minardi, was a trader at Canter Fitzgerald and perished in the attacks. Every year since then, UofL hosts the Billy Minardi Classic, with all proceeds going to the 9-11 Memorial Fund. This year's game is against Florida International on December 19.
Here's one of the photos that I think captures that day the best. In the foreground, racing over the Brooklyn Bridge, is Ladder 118 and her six-man crew. All six men would lose their lives while trying to evacuate guests from the Marriott World Trade Center Hotel. They knew what they were facing and went anyway.

Never forget. Always honor. 9-11.
9-11-01 ~ Never Forget
They were trying to decide if we should send the students home early. I suggested that we really didn't want these kids sitting home watching this alone if there parents were at work.
I went back to my room and the announcement was made over the PA system.
When they finished I asked if there were any questions. One girl named Tonya (about 16 years old) asked "When do you think we will get hit?"
I told here that we were not a primary target or near any and that we were probably safe.
She asked if it was okay to pray, I told her that it was always okay.
Thank you for bringing this thread back.
