Just in. I am looking at a picture of the WTC with smoke pouring out of the western tower. Looks like a huge amount of damage. Debris raining down on people in the street.

I bought mine in September of '01 as well. Interest rates were really low then.

I got up late that day and turned on the local comedy radio show and I was absolutely shocked to hear what was going on. The internet was overloaded and the news sites would barely come up. I didn't see it all until I got home and watched the news that night. One of the gas stations in my town had $5.70 a gallon gas for an hour or two until the state stepped in.

I did lurk on FR in 2001 (did since '98). I don't remember trying to access FR on 9/11, I probably did, but couldn't get through. So, while I remember the emotions, some details are hazy. But, at the same time, I remember each moment vividly. Strange, huh?

No, not strange at all. Moments like that stay with you. I remember vividly Sister John Dorothy (a very young nun) racing in a very unlike nun fashion across the playground when she had heard President Kennedy had been shot. I had just turned 12, but I remember that like yesterday, too.

There are moments in time that stay with you forever.

September 11, 2001, is one of those.

I remember it like yesterday. My first child was only 4 weeks old. He had been up so much the night before and I was exhausted. The phone rang at around 8:55 and I was furious. Everyone in my family knew not to call me in the morning so I could try to catch up on sleep. It was my husband and he started telling me what was going on. It took me a bit to shake the cobwebs from my head and understand what he was saying. As he was talking to me the second plane hit. He said turn on the news, we are under attack and said it was probably Bin laden. I got up immediately and just couldn't not believe the footage. I cried for days and held and hygged my baby almost nonstop.

What also strikes me about that morning is that as I channel surfed the news, the Today show kept talking about how much the towers were leaning and that they were only designed to take on so much sway and were afraid they were going to collapse. Too bad those leftist idiots have forgotten who was responsible and are taking the 1930's approach to dealing with fanatics.

I was a lurker then, and I remember that a FReeper was missing for a bit. They kept pinging him and asking for him to check in. I swear the good FReepers would have formed their own search and rescue team for him if he didn't pop up, which, he did, thankfully.
