Five Morgan Hill students sent home for wearing American flag T-shirts

2:11 PM By Lindsay Bryant

Five male students were asked to leave Live Oak High School this morning because they were wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. Officials at the school could not be reached for comment, but one student said administrators called the T-shirts "incendiary."

"They said we were starting a fight, we were fuel to the fire," said Matt Dariano, a sophomore.

The five teens were sitting at a table outside during their brunch break around 10:10 a.m. when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two boys to take off their American flag bandannas that they were wearing on their heads. In the same conversation, student Dominic Maciel said, Rodriguez told the group to "walk with him to the office."

Dariano called his mother Diana, who spread the word to the other parents and all arrived soon after to have a conference with Rodriguez and Principal Nick Boden.

Maciel said they were told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home. Maciel said they were told it wouldn't be considered a suspension but Rodriguez did not want any fights to break out among Mexican students and the group showing their American pride.

The boys said they thought turning the American flag inside-out was disrespectful, so all went home.

Dariano said Rodriguez indicated to him that while other students were wearing American flags, the group of five was "the easiest target to cause trouble."

"We were not going to start a fight. We wanted to show our pride," Dariano said. "In light of all of this, there are people with painted flags in red, green and white and yet the boys can't wear the American flag," Diana said.

There you have it folks. U.S. Citizens can't display our colors, but the Hispanic students can display theirs.

No racism or special treatment here...

“...Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez ...”

Well, gee whiz, what a coincidence, that name explains it right there... He wouldn’t want to “offend” Mexican students, after all, some of whom are probably Border Bouncers, with a display of AMERICAN PRIDE by AMERICANS...

Personally, the parents of those kids and every other man in that community who fancies himself an AMERICAN should get together and pay a visit to that particular “El Vice Presidente” office and remind him WHAT country he is in in whatever not-so-subtle manner they choose.

I wonder if HE’S even here legally, that is...might be worth looking into...

I believe a giant middle finger to “Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez” by every AMERICAN in that particular community would be an excellent display of AMERICAN PRIDE.

Followed by some highly obnoxious civil disobediance - that of the ENTIRE AMERICAN contingent of the school showing up wearing American Flag T-shirts.

Seriously, I am SICK of this illegal invasion communist subversion CRAP...if you let them get away with it at THIS level, this will NEVER STOP.

So .... the school wants to be sensitive to a celebration that has nothing to do with the USA by not allowing kids to wear the colors of the USA? Because it might offend someone?

Did they stop to think that perhaps US citizens that attend the school might get offended by the celebration itself? Or the display of a foreign country’s flag?

More than one poster on another thread (yesterday) indicated that it was not Photoshop’d... I did not verify that, but ‘sounded’ like it was authenticated... that said, it is the Internet, so...

Rush just said that Cinco de Mayo is a fake holiday, promoted originally by Corona Beer. It is NOT a holiday in Mexico, just a day for illegal immigrants to guzzle beer ;-)

Absolutely outrageous. Here's a pic of the "perps" (God bless these kids):

BTW, Rush is on the radio now reminding us that "Cinco de Mayo" isn't even a real holiday, and isn't celebrated in Mexico. Cinco de Mayo was made up by the Corona Beer company years ago to drum up their beer sales.

I had that conversation with my daughter yesterday. She had on jeans that had holes in them. I asked her why the hell she was wearing jeans with holes in them. She said, “papa that's the style now, I bought them like this.”

I shook my head and said I wore jeans with holes worn in em too, but not because they were in style but because I could not afford to buy any. I used to be ashamed of my jeans but now they are in style.
