Antolin Garcia Torres, the convicted killer of Morgan Hill teenager Sierra LaMar, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Garcia-Torres, 26, was convicted in May of first-degree murder in the 15-year-old girl's death and the attempted kidnappings of three women in 2009. On Tuesday, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender. Turning away a legal plea literally wrapped in the American flag, the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to intervene in a controversial case involving a South Bay high school's discipline of students who chose to wear flag-adorned shirts during a 2010 Cinco de Mayo celebration. The high court's action left intact a federal appeals court ruling last year that found Live Oak High School officials had the legal right to order students wearing the American flag shirts to turn them inside out or go home.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty on Friday after Morgan Hill police discovered a goat hog-tied in the trunk of their car, a police sergeant said. The boys came to Live Oak High School on the Mexican holiday, wearing t-shirts, shorts and shoes emblazoned with American flags. Sure, it all makes sense. Why should American kids be allowed to wear T-shirts with the American flag printed on them in America? Thankfully one high school administrator was equally outraged and sent the offenders home for it. Five kids attending Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Calif., decided to wear patriotic clothing (T-shirts and bandannas with the American flag on them) on Cinco de Mayo.
