Five Morgan Hill students sent home for wearing American flag T-shirts

2:11 PM By Lindsay Bryant

Five male students were asked to leave Live Oak High School this morning because they were wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. Officials at the school could not be reached for comment, but one student said administrators called the T-shirts "incendiary."

"They said we were starting a fight, we were fuel to the fire," said Matt Dariano, a sophomore.

The five teens were sitting at a table outside during their brunch break around 10:10 a.m. when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two boys to take off their American flag bandannas that they were wearing on their heads. In the same conversation, student Dominic Maciel said, Rodriguez told the group to "walk with him to the office."

Dariano called his mother Diana, who spread the word to the other parents and all arrived soon after to have a conference with Rodriguez and Principal Nick Boden.

Maciel said they were told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home. Maciel said they were told it wouldn't be considered a suspension but Rodriguez did not want any fights to break out among Mexican students and the group showing their American pride.

The boys said they thought turning the American flag inside-out was disrespectful, so all went home.

Dariano said Rodriguez indicated to him that while other students were wearing American flags, the group of five was "the easiest target to cause trouble."

"We were not going to start a fight. We wanted to show our pride," Dariano said. "In light of all of this, there are people with painted flags in red, green and white and yet the boys can't wear the American flag," Diana said.

Note the poll at the left, asking whether the city council did the right thing by banning toys in fast food meals.

Let’s send the entire student body flag T-shirts! That should solve the problem!

So a holiday that isn't even an official American holiday gives school administrators the right to discriminate against students wearing the official flag of the greatest nation on Earth?

What a bunch of politically correct losers.

Thanks for the picture and the video. In my day, those kids would have been sent home and told to come back wearing “school clothes”. No T shirts, no jeans, no shorts. THere is a lot to be said for uniforms.

“No T shirts, no jeans, no shorts.”
I went all through High School wearing nothing but jeans and many times T shirts. (Of course that was in Texas in the early 60’s)

I’ll bet that your jeans did not have the knees out and holes in the butt. And you always wore a belt. (I sent my kids to school in TX in the 70s and I remember the dress codes.)

I’m from CA and the boys wore kahkis, cords, etc. to school in the ‘50s. T shirts with slogans would never have been allowed — too disruptive. Before we moved to TX, my boys wore pants that were made out of sort of a sail cloth fabric and kahkis — no jeans. That was in the early ‘70s.

I remember the pants specifically because my son suffered a broken leg and was in a cast. I had to rip out the side seam of his pants and install a hip to ankle zipper in all of his pants for the duration of the cast.

As soon as the Fwench could have had white flags sent over, they’d have been gone anyway. I wish this school district was in my neighborhood. Since I don’t have kids, but, as a homeowner, pay school taxes, I have a dog in the fight. And would not have a problem bringing suit.

Another article on this matter. Ready for your blood to boil!

“Students Wearing American Flag Shirts Sent Home”
http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local-beat/Students-Wearing-American-Flag-Shirts-Sent-Home-92945969.html

“But to many Mexican American students at Live Oak, this was a big deal. They say they were offended by the five boys and others for wearing American colors on a Mexican holiday.

“I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day,” Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. “We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”

This sounds like a get rich quick law suit to me.
This is America. American flags are ALWAYS welcome - no matter what.
The red, green, and white flags don't belong here at all. They represent allegiance to another country - not ours.

This isn't Mexico. It's the United State of America. This kid seems confused.

significance of this cannot be overstated. This is BIG NEWS! But will the moronic MSM carry this story? I doubt it. They are that blind.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

,Yes! You are absolutely correct! The significance can not be overstated. So?...Do you think the conservative media will report this? NO! Likely they won't.

Why is this significant?

Answer: Demoralization!

Yuri Besmenov the former KGB spy, warned us! The demoralization of our nation is now nearly complete. The Marxists have near total control of every major cultural and political institution in our nation.

Yes, conservatives will rally to the specific legislative outrage of the day. However...I've seen little evidence that conservatives have a plan for RE-moralization of the nation. There seems to be little evidence that conservatives even recognize the threat of demoralization or that Marxist demoralization even exists.

Yes, conservatives will win individual battles, but unless this nation is RE-moralized we will LOSE our nation!

One of the most important things conservative must do is SHUT DOWN our socialist-modeled, socialist-funded, single payer government schools....and...get our nation's children into conservative private educational settings. I suggest the following:

**Conservatives should start education foundations that would award grants to individual teachers.

** The teachers would open one-room schools in their homes or small rented spaces. The tuition ( at first) would need to be tuition-free since this is the price government schools charge for their schools. By having one-room schools in the teachers homes the massive cost of building and maintaining infrastructure is avoided.

** The foundations would certify the teacher, test the student, and approve the curriculum.

** The foundations would break the monopoly that government has on minor league team sports by running community-wide teams, along with bands, cheerleading, drill teams..etc.

** The foundations would organize the parents to lobby for complete defunding of government K-12 schools and massive reductions in property taxes.

Do this and within 10 years our colleges and universities would be filled with students prepared to defend their faith and our nation's founding principles. Their Marxist professors would wither before their righteousness.

Do this and within 15 years righteous youth adults would be taking their places within our cultural institutions ( especially colleges and universities).

Do this and within 20 years we would RE-MORALIZE our nation.

This reminds me of when, during the surge in patriotic feeling after 9-11, fire trucks in Berkeley were stripped of their American flags, because “residents” there were offended by them.

I moved out of CA in 1976 when I joined the AF and haven’t lived there since. I wish my family members would move out of that wretched place, too.
