Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

We're all conservatives here. Keep in mind that not all conservatives are the same. There isn't a blue print for the American conservative. Nor is there a one-sized fit all template. Heck, there are those who are atheist and agnostic who post here. Conservatives aren't religious fanatics, nor are they theocratic, conservatism does however share and oftentimes agrees with the social and moral values found within religious texts.

I think you make some good points in your post. The other side of the coin is that Rudy Giuliani has taken some extremist liberal stands over the years. His support for taxpayer-funded abortion is an extremist position. His support for partial-birth abortion is an extremist position. On the abortion issue, I don't even call myself pro-Life half the time because I've had such strong disagreements with people on some of the details. However, I don't hold those kinds of extremist pro-abortion positions. The same is true of gun control. I've heard Rudy Giuliani say on national TV that he doesn't believe in private ownership of handguns. That's an extremist liberal position.

I would love to see Republicans rally around a good candidate. My personal favorite at this time is Duncan Hunter, but I can be fairly happy with most of the candidates frequently mentioned. I have some serious concerns about Mitt Romney, but I also like him. I'm on his ping list and may switch to his side if Mr. Hunter drops out or if I see him as the only chance to beat Mr. Giuliani. I've had some differences with Fred Thompson, but I'll vote for him if he's nominated. I think we can find some good candidates among those already running or possibly still find someone else out there. I don't understand why the Giuliani supporters are so intent on pushing someone who is so wrong for the country and the party.

Bill

There’s a Rally for Fred in Cookeville, TN this Saturday, April 28.

It’s arranged by his supporters at DraftFredThompson.com

If Rudy (what ever his personal beliefs are) can prove his sincerity in stating that he would put the liks of Scalia and Alito on the Supreme Court, thn you would have to move McCain to this status instead of Rudy.

Who exactly is the official announced candidate that all FR members must support at the risk of being zapped? I missed the memo, and I thought I was on the distribution list.

Sounds like union leftist politics to me.

Could be, but I doubt it, seems to be from a lot of backing candidates who are not fairing well in the polls.

It's certainly doing damage to this forum. A lot of folks have been turned off by some of these threads, or wilted into lurk mode, or simply just left altogether. I guess to a few, that's what's called "building the conservative movement", by turning it into a permanent minority, irrelevant coalition.

I actually think you guys enjoy being losers.

People who support Rudy are cheering for the guy on the team that is running for the goal line with no football in his hands. Rudy might manage to get across the goal line, but the team isn't going to win.

Arnie didn’t have a long record in elected office to defend. If Giuliani gets the nomination, the MSM is going to start splashing the authoritarian parts of Giuliani’s record coast to coast (e.g., tens of thousands of people arrested for misdemeanors being somewhat publicly strip-searched, seizing property from those acquitted of a crime, etc., etc.)

Why hasn’t the NY Times run front-page exposes titled “Republican Front-Runner Proposed DNA Collection from All Newborns?” Do you think they’re just being fair and trying not to influence the process? Or do you think they hope he wins the nomination and are keeping their powder dry?

First off, thank you for the rationale reply. For some reason no one wants to discuss the 'inside baseball' aspects - it's all emotion and reaction.

The whole uproar about Rudy is nothing more than a game of chicken: are there more than enough centrist Democrats to offset lost SoCon voters?

People & organizations with a lot more at stake than participating in an interesting discussion have already signaled their moves.

If it weren't for the front loaded primaries occurring in Feb, the traditional grass roots approach of vetting nominees would probably still be valid.

However, political realities indicate that the big Blue states will be determining the GOP nominee in a single day. Given this scenario, it's not hard to anticipate that Rudy will simply replicate Arnie's appeal by taking it nationwide.

Maybe Bill Lockyer. He is his CA spokesperson.

Guess it doesn’t matter that he is a wacko leftist gun grabber.
