We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.
One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to rule over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.
All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.
FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?
Do you really expect me to do that?
Folks, this has been an amazing thread. I will probably not be able to join you this week as I have a lot of long work hours ahead of me, and though I want to join the conversation I will simply not have the time.
Jim, I salute you in trying to keep the Conservative charter of this site on track. It’s been an exhausting day and I know people have been hurt but bottom line I think we need to stand up to the leftward drift we are finding the GOP— and even conservatives!— in.
Folks who support Rudy— please ignore the ones with schoolyard comments and really think about the consequences of choosing someone so liberal as the candidate for President. What if the GOP gains the presidency, but loses its soul?
Good night, and God bless,
—VictoryGal
Would you shake someone's hand after they punched you in the face?
Thank you.
You may have to post this another 300 times.......I know you will!
Hi 68 grunt ((((Hugs)))
Interesting take.
Conservatives are playing a game of chicken with GOP leadership. They think they outnumber the potential number of Dem voters that would vote for Rudy, thereby dealing a loss to Repub hopes in 2008.
***Socons have history on their side. Also, your analysis completely overlooks the role of the MSM. The media will turn on rudy the moment he accepts the nomination and all those potential dem voters will go runnin’ back to mama. No one will ever really know if your scenario played out because of other factors in the race. What the GOP needs is a candidate who doesn’t rely on the MSM to be anything other than what it is, a bunch of lazy lefties.
We shall see - personally, I think the smart money is on Rudy (just as it was on Arnie). The GOP will move to the left and a separate conservative movement will have to be established to continue the fight.
***That “smart money” approach is funny. Example: Rudy has pulled in say, $10M and Fred about $3M and maybe both McCain & Romney $5M apiece. That means that more “smart money” would have gone to the losers than the winner, no matter who wins. It’s just another way of trying to position a candidate in a positive light.
I think it is smart of JR to anticipate this re-alignment and establish FR as the pre-imminent forum for this movement.
***I think you’re dead wrong on that one. If anything, JimRob is trying to forestall a split in the GOP. And for that, I think he’s smart. Free Republic is already the pre-eminent forum for conservatives, he doesn’t need to position himself for a 3rd party movement.
You said it..... It’s unbelievable the attacks in the media and even here on FR.
Apparently, we aren’t allowed to pick our own candidate in the United States anymore.
Bump
Now there's somebody that actually understands what the heck is going on!!!
I think your assessment of Mr. Giuliani is far too optimistic. When all is said and done, he's done little that disagreed with the politically correct sensibilities of rich NYC liberals. Obviously, he has more support among rich NYC liberals who have registered as Republicans, but they are largely the same. He ran a tighter city government than David Dinkins did. That's hardly an accomplishment. He reduced crime in NYC by prosecuting people very strongly for small infractions of the law. Maybe that strategy was necessary in NYC, but the rest of us don't want our neighbors thrown in jail for the weekend for crossing a road against the light. Ultimately, the rich NYC liberals knew something had to be done, and while they complained a little, they weren't going to be that upset at his crime control efforts. When he had to make a choice between standing for law and order regarding illegal immigration or cooperating with laws that might make rich NYC liberals lose their illegal alien maids, he sided with those who were benefiting from violations of our immigration laws.
Plenty of candidates are talking about flat taxes. I heard Mike Huckabee talking about the flat tax today. Vouchers are nice, but he's hardly original in supporting vouchers. (Vouchers will also appeal to his rich NYC liberal friends.) He offers us nothing original or unique on these kinds of issues.
The notion that he'll clean up things on the border because of his law and order background is just wishful thinking. If he really cared that much about law and order as it applies to immigration, he would have been willing to cooperate with INS when he had the chance.
Likewise, the notion that he'll support the rest of the party on guns and abortion is still wishful thinking. If he were already in office, he wouldn't need those of us who care about these issues. Based on his history, he'll revert to doing whatever pleases rich NYC liberals. Those people want guns outlawed and abortions paid for by our tax dollars. He'll do whatever he needs to deliver these results to them.
As many have said and it bears repeating, Rudy Giuliani is wrong for the country and wrong for the party.
Bill
Will do when I get it posted.
“And do you also fight those who are on your side in this primary season?
Because that is EXACTLY what’s been happening to me.”
The thread is moving fast most times so you have to pick and choose what you read. So, I haven’t read most of your posts today as I was out until the evening anyway.
I saw you going back and forth with one person. It’s one person...so relax. Hard fought primaries happen in transitions like this. It’s going to get tougher here and at the local GOP clubs. Prepare for what is coming.
No offense, but I’m getting tired of seeing Giuliani’s ugly mug. (No problem with all the quotes tho.)
Exactly so. It is very Christian.
Well, and the Democrats aren't fielding someone as dull as Mondale.
We bad....<;^)
