It is now getting dark in Paris and in all of France(appx. 6:40 PM Paris Time), and if there are any French FR lurkers(lurquers), this may be the thread to post your reports about any further violence.
It seems the French govt. is impotent in it's response to what seems are jihadist thugs and it seems the American media has put a news blackout filter to what is really happening, so as not to embarass their heroes, Chirac et al.
So any news reports or personal reports from what happens tonight are welcome, and don't worry about broken English, reports in French are welcome also, I have no doubt someone can translate.
I really dread putting up a live thread about such a matter, but it seems that the American MSM is following French govt. orders to play down to what it seems is an insurrection.

At first glance these riots seemed to have a lot in common with the L.A. riots, except in L.A. people were angry over an obvious injustice. The Paris riots have me confused. Why were those boys running, and how is their death the fault of police? Those boys did not HAVE to run or hide. They chose to. Poverty and discrimination do not eliminate anyone's ability to do the right thing. This was a riot waiting to happen. Those boys were just the flimsy excuse to get it started.

Some amazing and naive comments on there.
Oh, boy, didn't we just make some kind of 'agreement', but carved out Venezuela? I caught this from the front page of the Boston Globe earlier or maybe a news alligator crawl on Fox. As to Panama...I thought China had already swallowed most of that! At any rate, it would be great if President Bush did do exactly what you said...make a show of force. The reporters tried to grill him alive though, and he simply refused to answer questions about Rove, etc..
[...The problem with the French Underground was a lot of them were communist...]
Perhaps then, the French underground never disbanded. Perhaps it became the socialist party. I wonder if this logic would lead us to Chirac? How weird!
Random thought: Imagine how things might have gone if Di had married Dodie? I doubt Blaire would have been able to ally with us as he did.
Violence has spread from Lille in the north to Marseille in the south
Hehehehehe...
On the opposite side, were I to blast America, they would make me a HERO.""
Sadly, too many Europeans hate America.
Thank you for your comments.
Speaking of Turkey, wasn't there a news bit the other day about a man who said he'd smuggled more than 100,000 Turks (Muslims), illegally into Britain, where they'd disappeared into the very large Turkish population. Britain isn't that large. This is not good news. I also remember reading that Ireland had become a favorite spot for Muslim immigrants. Also not good, if they come with an Islamic agenda.

The riots appear to be touching the center of Paris with 4 vehicles burned near the Place de la Republique ( http://no-pasaran.blogspot.com/ )
Most of the media is just getting around to reporting yesterday's news.
The Beeb ( I give no source for this trash ) of course is sympathetic to the request for respectful language by leading islamic advocate Boubakeur, objecting to Sarkozy's term racaille ( scum ) for those who murder a 10 year old, kill a father in front of his family, and set a handicapped person afire with gasoline.
The media once again retains its Three Monkeys award, hands down.
Hey HB, good to hear from you. I think the reason the French hate us is that they are elitists and pseudo-intellectuals and Americans are cowboys and cowgirls...and our culture wins hands down and theirs is dying.
I feel sorry for France. I hope this thing shifts power to Sarkozy so he can kick some fanny and give the Franks something to feel good about. Sarky is an immigrant (Hungarian/Greek/Jewish) and a big admirer of Bush and Blair. He's actually the reason for the riots. The Muslims have demanded his resignation because he called the rioters "scum."
No it never did disband, this is why the French lost in Indochina. They could have beaten the Viet Minh on the battlefield but they lost the will to fight at home, sound familiar? Remember, Ho Chi Minh lived in France during the 30's. This is where he found out all about communism. All of this is tied together.
I lived in France in 1950 as a military dependent. I can remember the French spitting on my fathers car.
Marseille is expected to be the first city in Europe to have a majority muslim population according to this Wikipedia quote.
Approximately 25 per cent of Marseilles population is of North African origin, mostly Algerian, and Tunisian. Demographers estimate that in the future, Marseille will be the first city in Europe with an population that is a Muslim majority. The Jewish community is also the third largest in Europe
Guess they will be changing the city's coat of arms pretty soon.
Surprised the French equivalent of the ACLU hasn't sued them yet.
That's right, the Brits sank the French fleet. Zut alors!
My goodness- your perspective is most welcome and enlightening. Thank you.
Tell me, are there others who see and believe what you are saying? Is it a topic discussed in hushed tones amongst close friends?
In many ways it's eerily like pre WWII years- but for one thing. The Islamic terrorists have no "army"..and they so far seem to be without a Hitler.
I've just subscribed to LCI, the 24-hour French news channel that also broadcasts online. Note to others here: don't waste your money. It's 1:25 in the morning there, and they've been talking about an asbestos scandal for the past 10 minutes.
Tant pis, Frenchies. (Too bad, Frenchies.)
No, it is not a fact all Germans were Nazis, it was Europeans were Nazis. As long as the German Army was winning there was a lot of Sieg Hieling going on. Only 40% of the SS was ever even German. One thing people fail to realize is Hitler himself was not even a German.
Nazism was a movement, not a state, and the same is true of Islamic Fundamentalism. You do have a few Arabic countries leading the charge as Germany led it for Germany. But never forget, it is an idea, and that is more dangerous than fighting a state.
I am supprised because france has a history of dealing with those who get in their way. Greenpeace rainbow warrior somehow sprang a leak, and I would not have been in the ivory coast recently when Chirac lied and troops died!
Oh!!!! I forgot they are dealing with the religon of peace this time.
