U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer has expressed a willingness to ban protesters from burning the Koran as the modern day equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded theater.
The Supreme Court has ruled burning the American flag in protest is protected speech under the First Amendment of the Constitution.
Breyer spoke to George Stephanopoulos on ABC's Good Morning America today:
But Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer told me on "GMA" that he's not prepared to conclude that -- in the internet age -- the First Amendment condones Koran burning.
Holmes said it doesnt mean you can shout 'fire' in a crowded theater, Breyer told me. Well, what is it? Why? Because people will be trampled to death. And what is the crowded theater today? What is the being trampled to death?

Breyer was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1994 by President Bill Clinton.
Burning them in private, as a repudiation of and repentance from a former life, is every bit appropriate and "cleansing." Many are mentioned in Scripture as destroying books of sorcery once they were converted to the truth.
This act has two immediate benefits.
1. It acts as a catharsis to break free from a former life and belief system.
2. It takes access to as least one copy of false teaching permanently out reach of others, including the recently converted soul doing the destroying.
So violent thugs would receive our deference because of their threats? I think not.
I would regularly burn a Koran in public if a law of this nature passed, while as much as I despise Islamic extremists, I wouldn’t bother burning that book without a federal law banning free expression that protects this one “religion” differently than it protects any decent religion.

Sometimes irony just writes itself
So we’ve lost our freedom of speech and expression because somewheres there are fanatics in the world.
And American boys are over in the mideast dying to keep the peace...
What an Eff’d up world.
“...that for whatever twisted reason, that are basically anti-traditional American values...”
Because, basically, the reality is that there are Americans...and then there are LIBERALS.
And liberals consist of any subgroup of communist, socialist, fascist, anarchist, secularist, humanist, fellow-traveler of haters of all things American. They detest anything that makes us exceptional.
While some of us spent our lives figuring out how to hand a better country down to our progeny, THESE cretins spent their lives figuring out how to undermine all that is good and decent in this country and remake it into the failed Workers Paradise Utopia thats been soooo successful in places like North Korea, the PRC, the failed Soviet Union.
They’re at war with the only country in the world that would tolerate them - their own. Ergo, they are traitors.
Basically sums it up.
They can howl and scream and protest that they are “loyal americans”, but their actions prove otherwise.
If people ran into the streets with knives every time they didn’t like a particular political message pretty soon there would be no free speech left.
Are the Danish cartoons to be banned from publication too?
Exactly! It's double or nothing. There's no logical distinction, Constitutionally speaking, between burning the Flag and burning the Koran. Of course, Breyer being a Liberal means logic might not apply.
Did I mention "acts" or "Acts"?
I suspect you were responding to a different post by somebody else.
They can howl and scream and protest that they are loyal americans, but their actions prove otherwise.
I’ve put it this way:
“Let’s accept your premise that liberalism isn’t at its core anti-Americanism. If your ideology WAS about destroying all traditional American values, how would it be different than it is today?”
Perfectly stated. Breyer's a buffoon.
islamists everywhere
I would rather ban Breyer from SCOTUS. Can we do this instead?
I think that people ought to burn a Koran right on the front steps of the Supreme Court. Big Honkin bonfire. With all-pork hot dogs to roast!
Do you suppose that he's in favor of banning the symbolic burning of black robes as well?
*unoccupied robes, that is.
Breyer's who said the Court could ban Koran burning. Although I'm sure if Souter were still a Justice, he'd agree with his fellow Constitution-hating Liberal colleague.
Read his dissents in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010).
As clear as the Norden bombsight, brother. Right over the target.
I’m open to the banishment of any SCOTUS justice who advocates such rubbish.
