A state board of only 15 people will vote on whether to revise U.S. textbooks to omit references to Daniel Boone, Gen. George Patton, Nathan Hale, Columbus Day and Christmas.
The Texas State Board of Education will also vote on a proposal to substitute the term "American" with "global citizen."
Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, is warning Americans to speak up before only eight people, with a majority vote, have a chance to literally rewrite American history.
He appeared on the "Huckabee Show" to explain why the board's vote matters to the rest of America. Staver said Texas and California are the two largest textbook purchasers in the nation.
"Whatever textbooks they select affect the rest of the country because publishers publish those kinds of books, and the rest of the country follows," he said.
But because of California's budget crisis, the state hasn't been able to purchase as many new textbooks, he explained. So the default is Texas.
"So when this 15-member board eight people of that will make a majority make a decision, it will affect the entire nation," Staver said.

Excellent post. Thank you.
I had an excellent American History teacher in high school. He said he couldn’t find a textbook that covered what he wanted covered so he wrote his own curriculum. This was in the early ‘90s. If memory serves, we spent most of the time in class on 1770-1870.
He also taught a World Religions class that began with Daoism (simplest and most primative) and ended with Christianity (most rational). He was within 10 years of retirement—sometimes protection through tenure can be a good thing!! Thank you Mr. Newell.
This is happening in all countries of Judaeo Chrstian heritage.
NOT just in the US.
If he were a public school teacher he could not do that today. Tenure or not.
Columbus Day was the only thing on that list that was in my history classes 30 odd years ago, and yet somehow I still know about that stuff.
We home school and are in full time ministry. God bless your efforts!
TYVM.
As a home schooler, you might also enjoy this one.
In 1978, my wife and I came to know a young woman named Patty. She
was a devoutly religious young mother who’d become more devout when her
husband and father of her two small sons aged 2 and 6 informed her that he
was leaving. In dire economic straits, I offered to let her stay in our
former home in Chamblee — which was not rented at the time rent-free until she got back on her feet. She had been clandestinely home schooling the 6 year
old for about 2 years using very well done Christian course materials from
an organization in Texas the name of which escapes me. The lad had recently been tested and had placed at least a year ABOVE his chronological age. As required by the government school authorities at the time, she dutifully apprised the authorities of his scores.
For reasons which would become clear in a moment, Patty had been harassed by the DeKalb County school authorities for about 6 months and, by the time she moved into the Chamblee house, had been — unbeknownst to us — ORDERED to put the 6 year old into the nearest government elementary school or suffer the consequences. Because she wanted the boys to be educated Christians, there was no way she was going to do that and she told them so.
At approximately 2 am one morning, a loud knock on the door announced the
arrival of the aforementioned “consequences.”
Dressed only in a nightgown, she was confronted by several burly police officers who thrust an arrest warrant in her face. With the now awakened 6 year old watching and the 2 year old wailing in the other room, she was handcuffed and led out the door to jail. She was tossed into a large cell with a couple of hookers and a junkie who spent much of the rest of that morning vomiting in the corner. The two young boys for whom the educational authorities professed such great concern were just left AT THE HOUSE — ALONE! Patty was later told that the bureaucrats from Children Services who were SUPPOSED to accompany the cops were late and, in their haste to get this dangerous miscreant behind bars, the cops just missed the fact that the Children Services people were, well, missing. The CS folks showed up an hour later to find two terrified kids, one of whom had just seen his mother hauled off in cuffs.
Patty was ultimately brought to trial under the Georgia Truancy Statutes. Her pro-bono attorney tore the school authorities to shreds and hers has been called THE case that opened the floodgates to home schooling in Georgia. Once they had all the facts, the jury didnt take long to acquit her. Im proud to have played a small part in that.
At Pattys trial, a previously overlooked aspect of the government schools was put into sharp focus for those paying attention: The Director of Instruction for DeKalb County testified that the then current 7 hour school day consisted of an average of approximately 3 hours or less of instruction. At that time, Patty was devoting 4 to 5 hours a day to direct instruction.
He also as much as admitted that the REAL reason they wanted ALL these kids in school was the $3,000.00 per kid per year (Im sure that number is MUCH higher today!) they then got from the state and federal government. Empty seats = lost funds. As in most things, follow the money.
Patty home schooled these two boys through high school.
And how did the boys turn out?
One is now a physician and the other a budding journalist.
But that now seems to be the norm for the growing legions of home schooled kids which most likely explains why the NEA and the government school folks feel so threatened. For what its worth, a home schooled kid won the last National Spelling Bee.
Thomas Jefferson believed an EDUCATED PUBLIC to be the cornerstone of the system he and the other Founders TRIED to leave behind. He would NOT, I feel certain, be a big fan of the current government education system. If he returned today, hed home school just as he did before.

I would appreciate all the references to homeschooling to cease...DUH! of course it’s better. Fact is, though, many of us are not in a position to be able to, so other ideas to STOP these 15 commie idiots would be appreciated.
Anyone within 50 miles of where this group meets better be in their car affording the time and energy to interrupt their meeting...and, someone with a video camera please forward the film to www.pajamasmedia.com, Newsmax, start a thread on Freep, and any other site.
TY for the kind words.
Ugh...I LOATHE progressivism....and progressives. Grrrrrrrrrrr
I say we erase THEM from history, but then no one would ever learn how NOT to do things.
My husband is a teacher and he allows discussions in his class that the ACLU would be apoplectic over. Still, the law states that if they are initiated by students, discussions of religious nature are allowed. He just doesn't panic and end it immediately like so many other teachers do.
The problem is which way the mythology is going to go now. I'm not an American and even I don't rate this direction.
Whew.. What will it take before parents who love their children take them OUT of the government schools?
WTF is a "global citizen"? Might as well refer to them as "people" or "humans" or "homosapians".
Who is not of this globe?
lol...I like that Beaumont guy
one of my boys has a teacher who is a real crusader....dumpy white chick married to an activist native american/indian/part black/whatever fruitbat and she too carries the torch with activist hubby
her car is covered in Obama and other crap
my boy keeps her on edge.....he gave her fits over why they can’t say Christmas in school but they refer to the bomber as Christmas Day bomber
it’s nuts, you have to keep your kids prepared to deal with it
but most teachers here are not like her...we got unlucky on that one
what scares me is how many kids and lazy parents just let the teachers run their pieholes without challenging them
this boy is almost 10 btw
That’s the liberal’s version of that book. It “omits” the chapters on photo manipulation by Castro’s Cuba and by the Viet Cong.

I agree. I have no problem with homeschooling or homeschoolers, I am all for it.
But for some reason, on these kinds of threads, it seems if you aren’t a homeschooler yourself, you’re a bad parent or not willing to sacrifice for your children, blah blah blah. Let the attacks begin...
Hey, HOMESCHOOLERS, some of us NEED to work in order to pay for things like RENT, and UTILITIES. And as much as we’d love to homeschool our precious children, having a roof over our heads and food to eat, is a a bit more important than sending our child to a government school.
And while I don’t agree with what all the govt school is teaching my children, I know I can do my share when they are with me to teach them what is right and wrong and set them straight if they are being taught something incorrect. But homeschooling is NOT the only option and I am NOT a bad parent because I am unable to or am not “sacrificing” enough to...
And by the way, considering these progressives have been changing history and what they are teaching in school for decades, I went to government schools and I did just fine.
You can homeschool if you WANT to. Sometimes it just takes more creativity.
E-mailing, calling, sending a letter too the 15 people that have this "vote" are about all there is to do. There are other more drastic measures, but all of that I can think of would end up with a long stay in prison.
Howard Zinn’s “history” text is myth too. Lies by omission are lies just the same.
