“Iranian mortars negate southern Israel defenses”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A military correspondent for Israel’s Channel Two News reported on Tuesday night that many of the mortar shells fired at southern Israel by Gaza-based Palestinian forces earlier in the day were Iranian-made 120mm shells.
The heavy mortar shells have far more destructive power than the locally-produced Kassam rockets, and have a range of up to 5 miles. The speed at which the shells travel also renders useless an early warning system installed in several southern Israel communities to give residents an opportunity to reach safety in the event of an attack.”

“IDF believes renewed conflict with Hizballah is close”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A senior Israeli army intelligence officer told a parliamentary oversight committee on Tuesday that Lebanon’s Hizballah terrorist militia has significantly advanced his preparedness for renewed open conflict with Israel in recent months.
The officer was quoted by The Jerusalem Post as saying that while the UN resolution that ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War was supposed to push Hizballah out of range of northern Israel, the group has redeployed most of its forces, including medium-range ballistic missiles, south of the Litani River.”

“Christian ‘Difficulty’ in Sudan?”
By Mark D. Tooley
FrontPageMagazine.com | Thursday, April 03, 2008
Was it really an April Fools trick or did the World Council of Churches (WCC) actually admit that Christians in Islamist Sudan endure some unpleasantness?
According to an April 1 report from the WCC news service, a WCC delegation recently visited Khartoum and was shocked to learn that a Christian cemetery in the nations capital is also being used as a used car lot.
Once the visiting ecumenists recover from their shock, maybe theyll get around to realizing that Sudan is governed by theocratic Islamists who killed 2 million southern, mostly Christian Sudanese during the war that concluded in 2005.
The Religious Left has adopted the suffering in Darfur, a Sudanese province, as one of its pet issues. Their concern for Darfur is admirable. Hundreds of thousands of African Muslims have perished there, usually at the hands of Arab militias backed by the Islamist regime in Khartoum. Since Darfur is about Muslims killing other Muslims, it evidently is permissible for the Religious Left to take an active interest in it.
But the even more horrible and genocidal sufferings of the southern Sudan rarely provoked a peep from the Religious Left in the United States or elsewhere in the West, including the Geneva-based WCC. The war in southern Sudan was negotiated to a tenuous peace in 2005 with help from the Bush Administration, urged on by a coalition in the U.S. of evangelicals, Jews, black church leaders and other human rights activists who began organizing in the 1990s. The worlds worst case of Islamist terror somehow never aroused enormous interest from the WCC, the National Council of Churches in the U.S. or other Religious Left groups supposedly so concerned about global justice.
But miracles do occur, and the WCC finally found its way to Khartoum, evidently having heard rumors of difficulties for Christians there.”

“Worldwide Caution”
January 17, 2008
SNIPPET: “This Worldwide Caution updates information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against Americans and interests throughout the world. American citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.”
Merci Ian.
History seems to be repeating itself. The arab armies (minus Egypt and Jordan) are going through progressively larger operations and deployments - essentally telegraphing their punch. I only hope the Israeli generals and leaders have picked up on this.
Thanks much, Oorang.
Although, we now know for certain -- since we just heard it from al zawahiri himself -- that al qaeda does NOT kill innocents. < Sarcasm: OFF > So, it follows that this must also be true whether the killer muckrakers hail from Iran, Syria or other regions or whether they slither within Hamas, Hizbollah or any of the multitude of other organized hate groups.
Couldn't agree more. Our "peace" efforts have done more to encourage more violence than anything else. Gaza is the biggest example. Israel left the infrastructure in place for one of their biggest produce systems. The pali's first thing was to destroy that and the rest of the infrastructure - turning that area into a cesspool. Now Hamas is getting help with longer range and more powerful rocket, Hezzies have 3X the rockets they had before, and Syria is feeling frisky, thinking that Israel is weak. Israel's defensive has been allowed to weaken, painting themselves into a corner. If they get hit with LR Syrian rockets - damascas will likely get nuked - Israel has few other options if a rocket blitzkreig opens up.
“If they get hit with LR Syrian rockets - damascas will likely get nuked - Israel has few other options if a rocket blitzkreig opens up.”
Agree...Very tender times we are in.

Most Beautiful Camels Seek Top Prize in Desert Pageant
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates It is the Arab world’s answer to the Westminster Dog Show a camel beauty pageant. Nearly 20,000 one-humped hopefuls are about to compete for the coveted title of most attractive camel in the world.
The drop-dead dromedaries are judged on such characteristics as ear curvature, nose shape and glossiness of coat. Prizes range from brand new Range Rovers to more than $10 million in cash.
Owners, hoping to curry favor with the judges, act like nervous stage moms, painstakingly grooming their camels, adorning them with bright national flags and rhinestone harnesses.
“Camels are a part of our culture, and this is a chance to celebrate their beauty and make some money at the same time,” said Salem Ebrahim Al Mazrouei, Director of Operations for the festival, which is sponsored by the oil-rich United Arab Emirates.
