BANNU, Dec 26: Militants are reported to have kidnapped 10 policemen after blowing up a checkpoint of the Haivad police station here on Wednesday evening. Officials and witnesses said that the militants first opened fire with Kalashnikovs on the Mazanga checkpoint and later blew it up with explosives. The kidnapped policemen included an ASI, a head constable and eight constables.
This correspondent made several futile attempts to contact police high-ups to get the names of the missing policemen. Local people said that five young boys, who were returning to the village after playing a volleyball match, were injured in the attack. They were taken to the district headquarters hospital. Talking to journalists in the hospital, the injured boys said that they rushed to the police checkpoint after hearing the sound of firing. As they neared the checkpoint, the explosives went off.

Islamic terrorists with Bosnian passports blacklisted by US
A number of Islamic terrorists with passport, residence or temporal residence in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have been added to the US terror blacklist, the Banja Luka's daily Fokus said.
Fokus daily quotes data from the US' specially designated global terrorist list, published in mid-December.
Focus says it's quite strange that the US government had repeatedly blacklisted names of deceased individuals such as Momir Talic and Slobodan Milosevic, or individuals already convicted by war crimes tribunal in The Hague, such as Biljana Plavsic.
The latest blacklist, however, does not include Veljko Kadievic and the most wanted war crimes fugitives Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic.

“Second suspicious death at Russian bank”
By Will Stewart in Moscow
Last Updated: 1:51am GMT 26/12/2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The second suspicious death at top Russian bank VTB within a month is provoking new concern about a return to a culture of lawlessness and contract killings in Moscow’s business world.
The body of Alexander Funin, 43, with a bullet wound to the head, was found in the bathroom of his apartment in south-western Moscow.
As with a killing earlier this month, police quickly ruled out murder, before apparently allowing sufficient time for detailed investigations.
Such quick “conclusions” are themselves fuelling suspicions in Moscow about a cover-up of a new wave of contract killings in banks.”

“Justice for Zacarias Moussaoui”
By John Rosenthal
Policy Review | Thursday, December 27, 2007
(ARTICLE SNIPPET: “But the most fundamental lesson to be learned from Moussaouis testimony is one that ought to have been perfectly obvious even without it: The 9/11 attacks were precisely attacks. They were not banal crimes actuated by banal criminal motives, as the trying of Moussaoui before an ordinary civilian jurisdiction would suggest. They were acts of war undertaken with the express purpose of inflicting damage upon a designated enemy: the United States.”)

Iraqi Police, U.S. Special Operations Forces detain 2 suspected extremists in Ramadi
Multi-National Corps Iraq PAO
BALAD, Iraq Iraqi Police and U.S. Special Operations Forces detained two suspected extremists during operations Dec. 24 and 25 in the city of Ramadi. The operations were part of a series to capture individuals believed to be involved in the capture of U.S. Soldiers earlier this year.
The operations were based on intelligence reports linking the two suspects to the May 12 abduction of three U.S. Soldiers following an ambush attack near Mahmudiyah. Reporting indicates that the two suspects have ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq.
One of the suspected terrorists is believed to have facilitated the kidnapping and is reported to have used his residence to aid in the hiding and transport of the captured Soldiers.
During a previous operation, a U.S. weapon belonging to one of the abducted Soldiers was recovered at a residence of the second suspect.
Both suspects are allegedly involved in terrorist cells responsible for several improvised explosive device and mortar attacks against Iraqi and Coalition Forces, as well as the kidnapping and murder of Iraqi citizens and members of the Iraqi Security Forces.
Four other individuals were detained for further questioning during the operations.

“Four dead in Pakistan poll rally”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “At least four people have been killed ahead of an election rally that Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was preparing to attend.
Members of Mr Sharif’s PML-N party say they came under attack from supporters of the rival PML-Q party which backs President Pervez Musharraf.
The shooting took place near Pakistan’s main garrison town, Rawalpindi.
Correspondents say it is the worst election-related violence ahead of polls due on 8 January.
The elections are for national and provincial assemblies. They come weeks after President Pervez Musharraf resigned as head of the army and was sworn in for another term as president, this time as a civilian.”
About 40 injured or more...according to some breaking news release and Bhutto is dead.
