Calculating the Risks in Pakistan

A small group of U.S. military experts and intelligence officials convened in Washington for a classified war game last year, exploring strategies for securing Pakistan's nuclear arsenal if the country's political institutions and military safeguards began to fall apart.

The secret exercise — conducted without official sponsorship from any government agency, apparently due to the sensitivity of its subject — was one of several such games the U.S. government has conducted in recent years examining various options and scenarios for Pakistan's nuclear weapons: How many troops might be required for a military intervention in Pakistan? Could Pakistani nuclear bunkers be isolated by saturating the surrounding areas with tens of thousands of high-powered mines, dropped from the air and packed with anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions? Or might such a move only worsen the security of Pakistan's arsenal?

Subway Bomber Arrested In Istanbul

Turkish media reported on the arrest in Istanbul of a PKK operative before he caused bloodshed. The terrorist was carrying with him 3.2 kg of A-4 plastic explosives when the police caught him yesterday, buying a ticket in an Istanbul subway station.

It is said that the 30 year old bomber had received training on explosives in PKK camps on Mount Qandil that is the target of the ongoing Turkish military operations.

POLICE in Pakistan have stopped a 15-year-old boy they say was carrying a bomb made of dynamite and nails from gettnig into a rally by opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

The boy got past the first of four security checkpoints set up outside the rally in the northwestern city of Peshawar but was caught at the second, said police officer Rahim Shah, according to the Associated Press.

In October, suicide bombers struck a parade celebrating Ms Bhutto’s return from exile, killing more than 140 people in the southern city of Karachi.

UPDATE: Coalition forces positively identify terrorist killed in raid

BAGHDAD, Iraq – A terrorist killed south of Samarra Nov. 8 has been positively identified as Abu Abdullah.

Abu Abdullah, also known as Muhammad Sulayman Shunaythir al-Zuba’i, was a high-level al-Qaeda in Iraq leader for a network operating in the Salah ad Din province. Reports indicate Abdullah was an experienced bomb-maker and attack planner who coordinated numerous attacks on Coalition and Iraqi forces over the past three years, using a variety of improvised explosive devices combined with small-arms fire.

Abdullah was also allegedly responsible for the kidnapping, extortion and murder of local Iraqis, and it is believed he led a group of foreign terrorists, whom he used to conduct his car-bombing campaigns.

Intelligence reports led Coalition forces to a location where Abdullah was operating. The ground force observed Abdullah, fired warning shots directing him to stop and was then engaged by enemy fire. Responding in self-defense, Coalition forces returned fire, igniting the vehicle. The ground force observed secondary explosions erupt from the vehicle, indicating that explosives were inside. Abdullah and an associate were killed during the engagement.

Intelligence indicates that Abdullah had historical ties to the Battle of Fallujah in 2004, and was a close contact of the former al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before he was killed by Coalition forces in June 2006. Prior to leading an AQI network in Salah ad Din Province, reports indicate Abdullah was a regional Emir controlling AQI terrorists in an area between west Baghdad and east of Fallujah.

“This was a dangerous terrorist who will never again harm innocent Iraqis,” said Col. Don Bacon, MNF-I spokesman. “We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorist leaders, like Abu Abdullah, who attempt to deny the Iraqi people a future of their choice.”

Ynetnews reported Wednesday a 28-year-old Israeli man narrowly escaped being savagely lynched by a mob of bloodthirsty “Palestinians” when he accidentally drove into the PA-controlled town of Ramallah just north of Jerusalem.

Amir Ochana was reportedly misled by his GPS navigation system and found himself surrounded by Arabs in the heart of the unofficial “Palestinian” capital and seat of the PLO/PA Authority.

He was rescued by a couple of anonymous Arabs - possibly Israeli special forces operating in disguise - but not before he had been physically assaulted and had his cell phones stolen and his car’s windows smashed in by a crowd yelling “A Jew! A Jew!”

According to a number of foreign tourists who have visited Ramallah at different times in recent years, the city seethes with hatred of the Jewish people.

Driven by their demonic and antisemitic religious beliefs, Muslim Arabs in Ramallah and other “Palestinian” areas have frequently leaped at the opportunity to kill Israelis.

In one such event televised around the world, IDF reservists Vadim Nourezitz and Yosef Avrahami were literally torn apart by thousands of delighted “Palestinians” when they drove into Ramallah in October 2000.

Nourezitz’s wife, upon hearing that something was happening in Ramallah, called her husband’s cell phone to be told by the shouting Arab who answered: “We have just killed your man.”

Meanwhile in related news, Arabs in the Samarian town of Kalkilya Wednesday hurled stones at cars driven by Jews, damaging at least three vehicles. No injuries were reported.

OPINION:

Remember, when reporting an emergency — stay calm if possible. Describe as accurately as possible the situation you are reporting. Answer the dispatcher’s questions. IF YOU NEED TO GET OFF THE PHONE TO GET AWAY FROM A DANGEROUS SITUATION; tell the dispatcher that right up front.

Gang signs and symbols

Ever heard of the pyramid, or the five or six pointed star? Ever heard of the heart or the walking cane? The common factor between all these terms is that they all denote signs and symbols that are used to represent gangs.

* Tattoos – Since the very beginning, tattoos have been associated with gangs of all kinds, whether violent or non-violent. This is because tattoos connote the toughness that is desired by all gang members, and some tattoos are associated with permanence. Most tattoo designs are usually symbolic in nature and are often found in all members of the clan, with just a few variations depending on the area. Some tattoos represent specific deeds carried out by members, murder being a common example. The gang signs and symbols used in tattoos are sometimes very involved, and could also refer to a certain meaning or mythology that the gang has invented for itself. For instance, the Star of David symbol represents the Folk Nation gang that was once led by a man known as King David. What’s more, each point of this star was used to represent the value of the nation. The Tidewater and North Carolina Hoodies represent themselves with an hourglass image. The Elizabeth City Mafia use the hourglass figure with three strips on top.

* Hand Signs – ‘Stacking’ or ‘Throwing Up’ is a gang signal that is used with the hands and is one of the most common forms of ‘claiming’ or gesturing. It is used in most situations where other signals or identifiers may not be appropriate or possible. Sometimes it is used to show that a gang member wants to do business. Hand signs are generally made by the formation of fingers on one or both the hands so as to make a symbol. It could also deliver more specific information.

Fatah map showas all of Israel as Palestiine

Fatah is planning to mark its 43rd anniversary this year with a new poster that presents all of Israel as Palestine.

Designed specifically for the occasion by Abdel Mun'em Ibrahim, the poster features a map of Israel that is entirely draped with a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf.

It also carries a drawing of a rifle as a symbol of the "armed struggle" against Israel.

The poster, which has been endorsed by the Fatah leadership, has already been posted on a number of Fatah-affiliated Web sites.

The underlying message of the poster is that Fatah, like Hamas, does not recognize Israel's existence.

The emblem is in violation of Fatah's declared policy, which envisions an independent Palestinian state alongside, and not instead of, Israel.

By including a rifle in the poster, Fatah is sending a message to the Palestinian public that it has not abandoned the option of "armed resistance," despite current peace talks with Israel.

Bomb squad evacuate resort (Australia)
December 27, 2007

Police evacuated hundreds of NSW Central Coast residents and holiday makers early today after oxyacetylene bottles were discovered in a burning stolen vehicle. A 200-metre exclusion zone is also in place around the utility, discovered around 4.30am (AEDT) in Toowoon Bay Surf Life Saving Club's car park.

Police and fire services based at The Entrance discovered the oxyacetylene bottles affected by heat in the ute's tray, and fearing an explosion they began the evacuation. Fire and police evacuated 15 homes and the salubrious Kims Beach Hideaway hotel while making a 200-metre exclusion zone around the car. Fire services spokesman Ian Krimmer said it was not clear when people could return to their homes.

"The police bomb squad has arrived from Sydney and is currently assessing as to whether a robot can be used to move the cylinders to a safer location,'' he said.

Egyptian police arrest weapons smuggler, tons of explosives

Egyptian police arrested early Wednesday a weapons smuggler and found in his house near the border with Israel more than half a ton of explosives and 1,200 kilograms (2,600 pounds) of potassium nitrate used in making bombs, a security official said.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media, said police arrested Mahdi Salim Abu Freig, 21, after raiding his house in el-Amir district in the Rafah border town at dawn.

Murder of French tourists in Mauritania linked to al-Qaida group

NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania — Islamic extremists allied with al-Qaida are the suspected killers of four French tourists in Mauritania; the Frenchmen were gunned down after they stopped for a Christmas Eve picnic in this northwest African country.

After initially suggesting robbery as the motive for the attack, Mauritanian investigators said they were hunting three killers, two of whom were suspected Islamic militants. (There were no details on the third.)
