BOSTON - Harvard University reproached law professor Laurence H. Tribe for failing to properly credit another author's work in a book published two decades ago.
President Lawrence Summers and Law School Dean Elena Kagan said they concluded that Tribe's error was unintentional after they reviewed a report on an investigation by former Harvard President Derek Bok and two other scholars.
The panel was appointed last fall after The Weekly Standard magazine pointed out similarities, including one exact 19-word passage, between his 1985 book "God Save This Honorable Court" and a 1974 book "Justices and Presidents" by Henry J. Abraham of the University of Virginia.
Tribe, a constitutional scholar who represented Al Gore in the 2000 Florida election dispute, acknowledged the mistake and apologized publicly and in a letter to Abraham.

Gee, isn't that, like, plaigiarism?
hehehehe.....
Aaargh, I can't spell today. Plagiarism! The p-word, darnit!
"Tribe, a constitutional scholar who represented Al Gore in the 2000 Florida election dispute, acknowledged the mistake and apologized publicly and in a letter to Abraham."
No, it's nothing LIKE it.....it is specifically and exactly plagiarism.
Gee, I don't suppose the article ever uses the p-word?
Two decades ago, hm? Wasn't that about the time a group of middle-class black parents, having had it with the public schools, got together and wanted to open a private school in Cambridge? -- in Tribe's neighborhood, actually. Tribe signed the petition against it. When hounded by the Globe about it, he explained, "Well, I signed it but I didn't read it." Sure, lawyers do that all the time!
But, if he plagiarized a section of a book more than 20 years ago AND GOT AWAY WITH IT, you can bet he's done it since. My bet is that if you run all of his articles, especially those published by the more obscure journals, against a data base, you'll find other examples. I'd also bet that he'd try to hedge his perfidy and seek to be able to shift the blame so I'd first check the arcticles where he is co-author.
Similarly, it is much harder for students to cheat this way, as a simple Lexis search can turn up all kinds of things. Glad I went to school back when the Apple IIc was hot.
It's actually a conspiracy between Harard and Larry Tribe to blame someone else for some of his nonsense!
They will now, now that someone else already has.
