The Swift Boat Vets and The Media

Posted on 08/14/2004 4:07:10 PM PDT by Merry

After watching The Beltway Boys and News Watch on FNC, I think maybe we should be glad that the Main Stream Media is ignoring the Swift Boat story. Both shows pointed out that by the MSM refusing to acknowledge the charges against Kerry, word is being passed on the Internet and by word of mouth.

Juan Williams was just horrid and wouldn't listen, as usual, as Fred Barnes tried to be reasonable about why the charges against Kerry should be investigated. Jim Pinkerton and Jane also refused to listen to reason. Cal Thomas tried to make a case and they wouldn't even acknowledge there was a case. Personally, I believe the Swfit Boat Veterans are better off not being covered by these people. They would just call them liars like they do on the air and not look into anything.

Sorry I missed this. I will try and tape the replay (if there is one.).

I was disturbed that Juan told Fred Barnes (paraphrase) that these stories have been investigated years ago and found to be untrue and Fred didn't respond.

William is a liberal and Democrat supporter. Barnes over the last weeks has seemed uninterested in the issue. I don't know why he doesn't look into it himself.

Fred Barnes was on Hugh Hewitts show yesterday. He was calling the media negligent in failing to report or investigat this story.

On the other hand you may be right about the internet. I think more people are aware of this than if they saw it on TV.

I think Fred thought there would be no point in responding to Juan. Juan Williams has been rabid all week long about the Swift Boat Vets. He was put in his place several times by Brit Hume. Juan just shouts and never gives a logical explanation to his views.

What I note consistently is that the press Kerry defenders become agitated, angry, blaming and name calling when faced with the issues raised. As everyone comments, they never answer a specific charge.

I do believe the important present point to make is that Kerry has backtracked on his "seared in memory Cambodia Christmas tale." This in itself raises suspicions as the the remainder of his tales. Also anyone who tries to make a point on this issue must recognize Kerry not only will not speak to it, but refuses to sign records releases for his medical and service records.

Jane Hall was having a COW. She talked about how these were the same people that smeared John McCain. Really Jane? What was that smear and what is the smear against Kerry? You haven't EXAMINED their claims at all. Though she knows who the publisher is and who sent them $100,000. Yeah Jane, that's fair and balanced journalism. If you focus on motive and ignore their message, who's getting smeared?

Pinkerton pointed out that Jane said, "they are probably [telling] falehoods" and asked her to explain how that comment is unbiased.

Jane is in the tank for Kerry. She spouting all tyhe Kerry talking points without the least hesitation, examination or thought.

Gabler said to go to Annenberg Fact Check and they said all the Swift Vet claims were false. He's such a weasel. I wonder what the fact check actually says.

The irony was one of those idiots complaining that Republicans are counting on the media to be too lazy to scrutinize these claims against Kerry...

Hey Moron! We WANT the media to scrutinize these charges. WTF do you think internet and radio has been hammering about for the last two weeks?

These people are really out of touch.

One of the (liberal) guys on News Watch said the swift boat vets ad had been debunked at factcheck.org. Well I just went there and maybe I'm missing something but a quick (maybe too quick) look just gave recycled dem talking points about it.

"Barnes over the last weeks has seemed uninterested in the issue."
I think many in the media(even the few who arent liberal) do beleive that this is a smear campaign. However, the fact remains that these are the men who served with John Kerry and they deserve to be heard. Chris Matthews grilled one of the swift boat vets on his show, but at least he had the man on his show. I don't care if the media disagrees with the swift boat vets, but they have an obligation to let both sides of the debate be heard.

I'm curious about this Alston gentleman who is alleged to have never served under Kerry while claiming to do so on the campaign trail.
This seems like an easy one to prove yet no one speaks of it.
I'm beginning to doubt it.

I couldn't take Williams' dumb explanations and put the TV on mute. He can be such an apologist for the Left, but I don't have to listen to it.

Missed it tonight......I emailed them last week after they did a terrible job of discussing the Swifties. Pinkerton responded and indicated he'd try to do better on the facts.

Do you know if those 2 shows are repeated later?

Suggest we all keep emailing & informing them of the truth they continue to ignore.

Even worse, the idiots on FOX deliberately misled by saying that one of the Swift Boat Vets recanted his accusations re Kerry. Thats just not true - the BOSTON GLOBE says he recanted the part about whether Kerry shot a kid in the back, thats it.

That one pompous Pinko-Commie guy said that FACTCHECK.ORK proved that the SwiftVets are lying. I checked. Factcheck has their info wrong. They had to post one correction already, I told them to keep their eraser handy.

The show after it, where they examine the media coverage, had some ditz on there that one of the Swift Boat Vets retracted his story. She pointed to the Boston Globe article. She was so clueless she did not know that story was wrong, that he had not retracted the story. Apparantly the others on the panel were similarly clueless.

Yes, I agree with you. The problem is when you try to be "fair and balanced" you assume there is no absolute truth in any matter. What needs to be done, is to find the facts and truth in this matter regardless of the consequences. Just simply focusing, as does Barnes and O'Reilly, on being fair leaves the ultimate question answered by the loudest voice.
